Colwyn Bay ease their relegation fears

COLWYN Bay know they still have some work to do but eased their relegation fears with a bonus point victory at Pwllheli.

The five point haul sees the Bay move seven points clear of Bala in the fight to avoid the third place finish and a play-off against Bro Ffestiniog, with both sides still having two games left in the season to play.

Wingers John Beardmore and Morgan Edwards, as well as tries from player-coach Mark Earl and Dave Brown saw Bay to the win, while Pwllheli replied through full-back Owain Williams, and fly-half Matthew Hicks, with winger Gethin Roberts adding two penalties.

Earl said: “We’ve not had the best of luck really this season, but I think it was the first time since at least Christmas that we’ve been able to put out what I would consider our best side, and that did make a difference.

“We’re still not done yet, and have some work still to do, but those five points have been massive for us.”

Pwllheli chairman Will Martin added: “It was difficult to take, finishing off at home with a defeat, but fair play to Colwyn Bay they had the bit between their teeth and they wanted it more than us.

“But we’ve come along way this year and have blooded a lot of young guys and the future is looking good here.”
