MATCH REPORT V RUTHIN 18 NOVEMBER 2006 COLWYN BAY DOMINATE RUTHIN From the kick off Bay took the game to the Home side and with quick tackling denied them any good possession and pressured their line with some fine forward drives and speed wide out forcing Ruthin to concede several penalties unfortunately only one of which was turned into points after 7 minutes. Bay continued to harass the Home defence which held fast until after 23 minutes quick possession from a ruck enabled scrum half Josh Leach to feed centre Jody Prior who when tackled returned the pass for Josh to score the first try which was unconverted to give Bay an 8-0 lead. Bay then allowed Ruthin back into the game when in defending well against the home side they unfortunately gave away three penalties which former Bay outside-half Huw Roberts converted to give the home side a 9-8 half time lead. After a pep talk at half time Bay took up where they had left off after the first quarter again denying Ruthin quality possession and putting increasing pressure on the Home defence. Some fine forward drives particularly from the line-out eventually saw Mark Edwards power his way over the line after 21 minutes of the half to give Bay a 13-9 lead. From the restart Bay continued to attack and any forays into the Bay territory were quickly dealt with by full-back Pat Leach making long clearance touch kicks well into the Ruthin half. After 32 minutes a Bay line-out from 30 metres out was driven to within 1metre of the Ruthin line where the Home side collapsed the maul and the referee had no hesitation in awarding a penalty try converted by Matt Anwyl to make it 20-9 to Bay. Bay continued to repulse weak Ruthin attacks and strengthened their grip on the game to be rewarded with a try by winger John Davies who cleverly cut back inside to score near the posts with Matt Anwyl again adding the conversion to make the final score 27-9 to Bay.
