COLWYN BAY 68 ABERGELE 3 In this their final warm up game of the new season a Bay side composed of a mixture of first and second team players eventually overwhelmed Abergele after a somewhat shaky start. The game followed the usual pre season format of being played in four 20 minute periods with plenty of opportunities to give all players a run out. The first 20 was dominated by the visitors who went ahead after 10 minutes when they kicked a penalty having been awarded 7 consecutive ones following too many Bay indiscretions just at the close of the period Bay levelled the score with a penalty. The second quarter was a good one for Bay scoring 32 points without reply and finally managing to reduce the penalty count to lead 35-3 at half time. Bay began the third quarter as they had finished scoring twice straight away but then found Abergele putting up some strong defence, which they were unable to break down so the score remained 48-3 to Bay. The final quarter saw the fitter Bay team continue to dominate all phases of the game scoring a further three converted tries again without reply to make the final score 68-3. A good workout for Bay but far too many penalties were conceded especially at the start. |
