MATCH REPORT V DENBIGH 17 FEBRUARY 2007 Colwyn Bay were unable to overcome entirely an unimaginative Denbigh side in spite of their recent good showing against Nant Conwy. The game kicked off on a bright but cool February afternoon with Bay soon on the attack playing down the slope. Pressure was put on the home side but some strong tackles thwarted Bays attempts to break the deadlock. Eventually after 15 minutes a Denbigh indiscretion was punished by Bay outside half Matt Anwyl when he kicked a penalty to give them a 3-0 lead. From the restart bay continued to pressure the Home defence but it held firm to leave the score still 3-0 at half time despite 95% of the game having been played in the Denbigh half. After half time Denbigh came back into the game a little aided by the slope and levelled the score after 15 minutes with a penalty after a Bay off side. This spurred Bay to raise their game and for the next 20 minutes laid siege to the Denbigh line but in spite of some strong running by the backs and good driving mauls by the forwards they were unable to cross the line their only score being a further penalty from Matt Anwyl to lead 6-3. In the 5th minute of time added Denbigh won a turnover ball deep in their own half and the resultant touch kick found its mark 10 metres from the Bay line. Although Bay easily won the line out the ball was not cleared quickly from the resultant maul and a Bay indiscretion saw Denbigh awarded a penalty in front of the posts which was kicked to level the scores 6-6 as the referee blew for no side.
