COLWYN BAY RFC v LLANDUDNO RFC – 5 MAY 2007 UNDER STRENGTH BAY LOSE TO LLANDUDNO IN REARRANGED GAME This was a rearranged game for the scheduled 14 April fixture when Llandudno called the game off as they were unable to raise a side from their senior playing squad. With only 48 hours to the Bay’s first appearance in a North Wales Cup Final, certain relegation to Division 5 if the game was not played and Llandudno being unable to accommodate a request to play the game earlier in the week, the Bay were forced to try and raise a side from those players not in the Cup Final squad. This seemed a daunting prospect but the response from the Bay players was magnificent, with no less than 23 players making themselves available, some travelling from as far apart as North Yorkshire and Derby to support the Club. This meant that 45 players had made themselves available for two First XV fixtures within 2 days, a great testament to the spirit within the Club Llandudno fielded their strongest available side and, as expected, dominated in the early stages against a Bay side that had never played together before. After 15 minutes Llandudno had rattled up a score of 22-0 with strong running from centre Gaz Coy and good distribution skills from outside half Rhodri Carlton Jones. Once the Bay players started to gel they started to compete strongly, matching Llandudno in the set pieces. Good defensive work by the Bay pack and strong tackling by Bay winger Dougie Graham, centres Jay Beardmore and Gafyn Owen and scrum half Ben Evans in particular kept Llandudno at Bay for long periods. But the relative strength and pace of the Llandudno side told in the end with a series of tries to take the final score to 56-0. The Llandudno scorers were tries Dave Webb (1), Gaz Coy (3), Dave Davies (1), Dave Jones (1), Rhodri Carlton-Jones (2), Simon Beard (1) and Mark Shiel (1). Rhodri Carlton Jones added 3 conversions.
