MATCH REPORT V PWLLHELI 7 APRIL 2007 To us an old cliché this was a game of two halves. From the kick off Bay attacked the Pwllheli line strongly and in the first 10 minutes should have scored three times but wrong options were taken each time. After this the home side began to press and were rewarded with a penalty following Bay indiscipline to take the lead 3-0. Bay continued to attack and a finely judged penalty kick by Ash James levelled the scores after 18 minutes. Bay continued to incur the wrath of the referee resulting in a yellow card and the conversion of the resultant penalty by Pwllheli to regain the lead 6-3. The bay now down to 14 men defended strongly for the remainder of the half but were unable to prevent the home side gaining an 11-3 half time lead with an unconverted try. Whatever was said at the half time talk certainly had an effect as Bay took the game to their opponents and strong pressure saw Andy Williams-Owen power over for a try wide out which was well converted by Patrick Leach. At last Bay began to dominate and some strong attacking runs by the three quarters sliced into the home defence forcing a 5 metre scrum. A strong drive by the forwards enabled Will Blackwell to score a pushover try converted by Ash James to give Bay a 17-11 lead. Bay continued to attack and were unlucky not to add further points until a break by Patrick Leach saw some fine inter passing with the back row which put Gafyn Owen in for his first try of the season with another fine conversion by Patrick Leach from wide out to give the Bay a deserved 24-11 win. |
