The 4th Cadet Battalion
Royal Welch Regiment is holding a sports day at
Eirias Park on Saturday 15 Dec 07. Teams will be competing in a variety
of sports including Rugby, Hockey, Football, Netball, etc. The rugby
will comprise 3 seven a side games of mixed ages between 13 years and 16
years. These will be played 10 minutes each way. The battalion adjutant
has asked me if I could arrange for a referee for this competition.
North Wales Rugby Society referees will be tied up with cup and other
league fixtures, so maybe a referee from the club’s junior section could
help. The matches begin at 1000 and should be all over by 1200. If there
is anyone available, please contact me via the club website post it
page. Thanks.

Great
performance by the Under 16's today to beat Wrexham 31-3 in poor
conditions excellent displays by all players. The management would like to
thank Phil Roberts, Alex Kay and Lee McKenzie who played for the
opposition, they showed tremendous sportsmanship and character. It also
shows that Clwb Rygbi Bae Colwyn can be regarded as a club that endorses a
high level of fair play and sportsmanship. This was a typical gutsy
performance but we must build on this to be successful and bear in mind
the old welsh phrase 'Nid Da Lle Gellir Gwell'. |

We used to have a carol service at CBRFC. I remember them
clearly. Printed words to the carols,
and even a 4 piece orchestral accompaniment located on
the stage. Musicians from Eirias High I
think. I also recall Sion Thomas was delighted with his
first introduction to Mulled Wine! Served
of course, boiling hot by ladle. Let’s bring this back
and make Christmas special again! Down with

I just wanted to say that I thought the under 13's played
a fantastic game at the Rydal ground on Sunday 18th of Nov. I am quite
disappointed though, not to see any match write-up, especially as this
was the under 13's first win this season as a pure under 13's team.
Anyway, well done lads, you were absolutely
fantastic.......

Well done 1st XV against Loughor you certainly gave a good account of
yourselves against 2nd Division opposition only one score in it.
Disappointing to lose but the standard of rugby played shows that you
have nothing to fear from any other team in Division 4 North and
comments made to me after the game by Loughor supporters show that the
standard of rugby played in North Wales is far higher than the
equivalent level in South Wales. So much for the wisdom of the WRU in
blocking the aspirations of North Wales teams to climb the league
structure. Makes you wonder what they are afraid of. Good luck for the
rest of the season keep up the good work in the league and the North
Wales Cup

Just wanted to say well
done to the seconds for their recent run of form - been difficult
keeping up with things going on at the club being down in S. Wales, but
it sounds like a good win was had against Denbigh coming from such a

here's to another win on Saturday.

After the 2nd teams tremendous recent run of 3 league
wins in a row, I was saddened to hear some people saying that we should be aiming to finish 5th!
Thus ensuring an easier run after the mid season reshuffle! This is totally unacceptable. One
reason the 2nd team exists is to prepare
younger players for 1st team rugby. Another facility of
the 2nd team is to enable regular 1st team squad members to play rugby when not selected for the
starting 1st fifteen. Surly on both counts it would then be beneficial for our 2nd team to be
playing the highest standard opposition possible? I am right in thinking its better to give a
great performance against quality opposition and lose, than to hammer some journeymen? Also I'm sure
some of us older players want to feel we are risking possible injury for a significant reason, ie
we are trying to beat a quality opponent?
We look quite rightly at Mark Earls 1st team to set an
example for other teams at the club. On Saturday it was a privilege to witness them turn an
'almost' 8-15 defeat into a stunning 41-15 win. This "never say die" attitude and win at all costs
mentality is what every CBRFC team should
be striving towards.

I'm p**sed off that the 2nds opening league game of the

off the day before the fixture. I can't believe it was
overlooked that a referee would not be

then I can't see why the rest of the

referee a ball and a pitch will be

Does anyone know who smashed into the front of Louis' car
at the club this morning and failed to report it? There is a lot of damage
to our car and whoever did it must also have damaged their head/rear

must have heard and possibly seen the 'accident' as it happened sometime

In support of Steve's enquiry, ITV has exclusive TV
rights and will be televising the following Welsh WC fixtures:
Sun 9 Sep 07 Wales v Canada
Sat 15 Sep 07 Wales v Australia
Thur 20 Sep 07 Wales v Japan
Sat 29 Sep 07 Wales v Fiji
As we can get ITV at CBRFC, and, in its wisdom, the WRU
is not allowing our 1st XV to play on the Saturdays WC fixtures are
being played, it would be a good idea to show these matches at the club.
The Sunday fixture should not represent a problem because the juniors
are there anyway.
It sounds like a good idea to me Steve.

Re Dave's post
That's great news Dave, but just to let you know there
has been some sessions at the club in may and June and another session
was held last night as will be another next Wednesday at 7pm. Numbers I
must say are a little disappointing as the players from the club who
went and played against Rochdale service area at u`14s and u`15s did
really well, and also after it was put in the north Wales weekly news
about the training session but hey, gotta go with what you get. I would
urge any player who wants to do a bit of mid season training to come
along ( i know that there is already training for some teams at the
club), hopefully then a friendly game can be organised. I know i will
get a few youth players down for next week so if anybody else would like
to come along they are more than welcome.

It may be disappointing to some that there is no rugby
league at CBRFC this summer. However, if any youngsters are interested,
St Helens RLFC offer the following opportunity.
At at St Helens RLFC, the home of the World Club
Champions, boys and girls (aged 7- to 17-years-old), can enjoy:
· Coaching sessions with the players.
· Change in the first team dressing room.
· Chance to meet St Bernard and first team stars.
· Tour of the ground.
· Ticket offers.
· Presentations and awards.
Three dates are available – August 14, 21 and 28. The
cost of each session is £15.00.
This is a great opportunity for youngsters to receive
expert coaching alongside some of the best RL players in the world. As
you can imagine, places are limited and are sure to sell out fast.

Lets not get too excited about this golf thing. Apart
from 1 occasion the golf society have held their day on the second Sat
in Sept. This is booked 12 months in advance so that people can diarise
it. As far as I aware the golf lads have never asked the club to change
venues - this has been a decision taken by the club. Golfers will always
do what golfers do - all they want to do is to meet up with old friends
have a good crack on the course and have a few beers together in their
club. If there is a game at whatever level then so be it if there's no
game it's disappointing but they'll just get on with it.

Re contribution from Dave Edwards:
I find this a strange suggestion from a man with a
fixture secretary background.
The highlight of any rugby club is a 1st XV match and it
must take precedence over all else.
If the golfers would like to watch a 1st XV match after
their golf the solution is easy- change the golf day.
Incidentally aren't the seconds or youth team good enough
for their viewing.

I notice that the annual golf day has been set for 8 Sep

for this event. This encourages the golfers to stay after lunch and
watch the match, and, hopefully spend more money by drinking more beer.
With this in mind, is there any possibility of rearranging the first two
games of the season, i.e. play Nant away on 1 Sep 07 and Caernarfon at

Just a thought.

Regarding the captaincy, I hope our coaches are going to
learn from seasons gone before. there needs to be some communication with

think there is a stand out choice, although I have heard a rather worrying
rumour about which I wont go into. sorry to hear the Beerfest wasn't as

Can as many of you make yourselves available to help next weekend , just

they have shown us throughout the season. Some of you might even be able

After gaining two international caps against England and
France, I would just like to say good luck to Ian Marshall who will be
representing Colwyn Bay and Wales in Belgrade at the end of the month,
in a team made up of various countries from Europe, in a tournament
against England, Scotland, France, Russia and Serbia.
Not only is this a fantastic opportunity for Ian himself
it also opens new windows to any other youngsters at the club who would
wish to gain international honours in the following years.
Once again well done Ian keep up the hard work and do
your club proud. And good luck to Ray Caldwell who is coaching the team!

After reading Max's report re the Caer Boarders decision,
I thought it may be worth putting pen to paper to expose the diabolical
behaviour of this so called rugby club. I will point out that these are
my personal views and not necessary those of CBRFC.
Throughout the season players in the league in which
CBRFC second has been involved have played for other clubs. I am not
going to name clubs individually, but they know who they are as do the
players involved.
Colwyn Bay beat Caer Borders twice. But they just had to
play at being barrack room lawyers on both occasions. Ask yourselves,
Caer, have you played fair all season, always using your own registered
players? Only when it suited you, did you start griping. On paper, you
have won. Maybe next season you should take up basket weaving, or if
that is to exciting for you, maybe flower arranging. Obviously rugby is
far to tougher sport for you to win fair and square, so maybe one of
these options are more in keeping with your attitude towards contact
sports. Just mind you don't prick your fingers whilst displaying your
roses. You may have to go back to the suppliers to complain that roses
have thorns!!!!

about my rugby history down here I'm always proud to say that I have
come from Colwyn Bay rugby club. I learnt more from the people in this
club than anywhere else in my career. largely thanks to people like
mark, and other coaches and players I had the good fortune to have
contact with during my time at the club. I'm sure ill see u boys soon,
keep doing yourself justice and playing the way you are. without a doubt
the most progressive club in the north Wales area. and coaching that i
would be proud to receive down here!!! thanks for all the support the
club gave me during the euro nations rugby league. and make sure u stay

Message to Ian Morris.
I remember you as a very fit, nippy, affective and an
annoying scrum half. I am pleased to hear that you believe that the
fitness training you have experienced at CBRFC has assisted your
refereeing by helping you to keep up with play. We would expect no less
from a retired scrum half!!
Keep up the good work, and encourage your fellow referees
to follow your example.

Thanks to all the players and officials for allowing me
to join their training sessions during the past season. It goes without
saying that referees must be up with play, and although some might
differ (mostly South Walians), this year I have been the fittest for
many years. Not only has this been due to Mark Lewin for his superb
Monday night fitness sessions, but also the support and encouragement
from the playing squad. We may not agree on all aspect of the laws,
but it has been useful to see both sides of the debate. Good luck for
next season.

Yesterday's game against Llandudno was one of my proudest
moments as Chairman of Colwyn Bay RFC. It was much too much of an ask
for the Cup Final squad to play two games in 48 hours and the response
from the rest of the players to the Club's call to fulfil this fixture
was magnificent, as was the commitment shown on the pitch. To be able
to call on some 45 players to represent the 1st XV within two days at
the end of the season embodies the spirit of the Club. Many thanks to
Ritchie and the rest of the boys.

opposition - with honour, dignity and pride not only in tact but
enhanced. Just for a while out there I felt 15 years younger (but feel
15 years older today!). It was a pleasure to play alongside you all. If
Caer are looking for yet another rematch, I'd be glad to fill in.

I normally keep my thoughts and opinions to myself but on
this occasion I feel I must reiterate Peters comments below and extend
my thanks and respect to all the lads who played against the Llandudno
1st XV yesterday. It does as Peter said show that we are as a club
continually moving in the right direction. We rested 22 1st XV players
for the match and although soundly beaten we at least fulfilled the
fixture and completed our league program. We are no flash in the pan
club and yes we have had our fair share of tough times but continual
investment by a large number of people has and continues to drive us in
the right direction. We have one of if not the best club infrastructure
in North Wales and the 1st Team pitch is one of the best I have played
on anywhere in the world. We have a 2nd XV floodlit pitch for both
training and playing and will this summer further extend these lights to
enable us to train and play on the 3rd XV pitch as well. Our Youth and
Junior set ups are both thriving under the guidance of some very
motivated people as is our ladies Mermaid teams. We continue to attract
and keep some of the most talented players in the area and in my opinion
have one of the most professional and forward thinking coaching teams
around including our fitness coach Mark Lewin who has worked with many
top class athletes and teams including at present the Warrington Wolves
Super League Team and Rhys Williams our exceptional backs coach. Our
vision is to keep investing and improving both the facilities, coaching
and playing side of the club and in due course become one of the most
professionally thinking clubs in the area. A club that attracts players
of all abilities and all ages and provides a centre of excellence for
rugby in North Wales. I also wish to extend my thanks to all the
Sponsors of the club at all levels who invest both their time and money
into what I feel is a club that can only enhance the reputations of all
those involved.

exists at Colwyn Bay. I know that there have during the season been some
differences of opinion between 1st and 2nd XVs, cases of them and us, I
was guilty myself at one stage but thank you very much lads it really
helped the Club which is of course far greater than the individuals that
make it up but without you there would be no CBRFC. Well done Ritchie

Tom - I will not retract my statement I am only airing my
opinion not the clubs as a whole which I am entitled to air. This is after
all a free country with freedom of speech. I am in fact expressing my
disappointment in Llandudno cancelling last minute on the Friday before
the game on Saturday. A team can not cancel unless of the weather
conditions for a league match as per the WRU regulations unless given
plenty of notice with good reason. The fact that Llandudno had several
players out with yellow card bans has no relevance as they have a 2nd XV
who could of fulfilled this fixture. And if Llandudno 2nd XV had a
fixture, the game should of been cancelled to fulfil the 1st XV fixture. I
put hours of my own time to keep this website up to date and if I want to
express my opinion as others do on this forum - I will |

Re: Comments posted concerning the Colwyn Bay v Llandudno

I was just wondering if John Shaw would like to retract
his statement 'the lightweight Llandudno wimping out', as comments like
that are non-productive to say the very least.
Sure, everyone is entitled to their opinion but some
things are better best not said. As a club at senior level Colwyn Bay
have gone a very long time without winning any silverware, sure we are
now moving in the right direction but what right does that give us to
judge other clubs.
It has been said that Colwyn Bay Rugby Club are aiming to
operate to as professional a level as possible. I would say that as John
Shaw is Colwyn Bays official Webmaster then comments sniping at other
clubs, serve only to contradict that
I am sure Johns comments were meant to be taken with a
pinch of salt but even still they were said. we all make mistakes, that
is human nature. It is also human nature to forgive. So come on John
let's hear you say SORRY!!

The NIMBYS are out and about again!! With reference to
the activities in June, Beer Fest; Rugby Tournament; etc, one of our
near neighbours has put notices through letter boxes to local residents
suggesting that we complain about the drunken antics, unreasonable
behaviour, and noise that this event is likely to cause. The person who
penned this nonsense has not identified them self, nor would have I if I
had written such absolute bunk. Who ever you are I know that you read
this website, so the following is for your consideration. The only noise
so far is from you dear neighbour. CBRFC provides an excellent service
to the community. It fosters discipline and good citizenship through the
game of Rugby Union Football. It donates many of thousands of pounds to
local charities. Every Sunday morning it plays host to its own junior
section and young people who travel from all over the UK to enjoy the
excellent facilities. The ridiculous statements you have made in your
imbecilic notice are beyond contempt. Do you honestly believe that three

T.B Jones has a point, But this was a league game. We
were in a similar position not so long ago . we now have a very large
senior set-up. Numbers in training average 25-30 for both sessions
throughout the season and new faces joining all the time. so when we
lose players through illness or injury we had the luxury to replace
them. We should be excited about how well the whole club is
growing and competing this year. And the way the Juniors is set-up,
we will for many years again.. We were supposed to be playing a North
Wales Quarter Final Match tonight and that was cancelled also, so lets
just be glad were in a very health position and not look down on those
less fortunate. What goes around.. comes around.. Justin Timberlake

Some more daft lines for you;
Rugby is a as much a referee's game as a players' game -
let's hope so - Ian McGeehan
We set out to dominate - Dean Richards
Too many sweatbands and not enough sweat - Sean
Fitzpatrick
The thing everyone has to get into their minds is that we
are not talking about a squad of utility players. We must pick the best
players available for each position - Clive Woodward.
Show me a team with high scoring wings and I'll show you

Re: The comments below
If you look at any of the successful teams recently in
North Wales (Llangefni, Mold, Ruthin) their success has been built on
developing a "senior squad" of 20-30 players who are all capable of
playing 1st XV irrespective of past experience etc, rather than
focussing efforts purely on 19 1st XV players.
As a club we should be looking to develop similarly, with
players pushing for 1st XV team spots by putting hard graft in at 2nd XV
level, and similar players who have been dropped willing to get back on
track by playing for the 2nd XV. Playing for the 2nd XV should not be
considered a sat afternoon social event or a downgrade in standard.
Competition is a good thing and I know there will be players looking
over their shoulders and playing their socks off if we have a strong 2nd
XV - only leading to a stronger club.
In recent weeks there have sometime been more supposed
2nd XV players training then 1st XV - not a bad thing at all in my
opinion.

A bit of neutrality to pour some cold water over sparking
embers; all adult playing members of the CBRFC are eligible to be
selected to play for which ever team the management and coaching staff
feel they are capable of meeting the challenge. Likewise, any player who
does not believe they are fit enough or has the skill level to meet the
challenge, has the right to turn down the offer of playing for any team
for which they are selected. Getting into 1st team and 2nd team mode, as
two separate entities, is the beginning of a slippery slope to oblivion.
At our level this is still an amateur sport, played by amateurs, but
nevertheless, in a professional manner. In summary, if you are a playing
member, be prepared to be selected for both 1st XV or 2nd XV. If you
don’t believe you are up to playing for the team for which you have been
selected, explain why to the coaching team and team captain. Let us not
get into the, “us and them mode”, it will only end in tears.

Re: Peter Rice comments.
Being a senior player ( over 18yrs ) does not mean that
person has to be automatically available for selection for the 1st team.
The 1st team scene is totally different to the 2nds, requiring a high
level of commitment through training twice a week, and being part of a
serious outfit with 1 manager and 3 coaches. Wanting to be part of that
requires much commitment and a serious attitude towards the rugby. It is
fair that many players cant give the level of commitment required to
fight for a place in the 1st team. It is also fair that some players may
simply not want to play serious rugby. I'm personally grateful that
there is a senior team at the club (2nds) where older/less fit/casual
players can still represent and benefit the club, in a friendly fun
environment, without a manager who gets 'peed' off. I am particularly
concerned Peter that you may be undervaluing the efforts that club
members make OUTSIDE of the 1st team.
Its a 2 way thing, a strong 1st team benefits the club,
and a strong club gives the foundation for a successful 1st team. Two
good wins on Saturday, by two weakened teams. Time for celebration, not
back-biting.

nobody had a bad game but it just didn't happen. Domination for 90% of
the game but pressure not turned into points. Learn and move on from
this and do the business against Pwllheli on Sat. Bit of an unknown

The pie eating champion was none other than our famous
chairman to whom the previous two post-its refer.
However, I am somewhat surprised that he only ate two
pies. Last time we were in Winston's, two years ago, he ate three;
Haggis Pie; Steak Pie; Chicken Pie. I believe that was a full house at
the time. I do recall that very shortly after eating his third pie he
was wondering if there were any other flavours he could sample.
This year he must have been in a more than normal grumpy

Dear
Bill Atwill's Brother
We
really thought Wales were going to beat Ireland last Sunday. As our
optimism was so strong we thought it wise to record Brian as club
Chairman in the programme. The reason for this was that Bill would
have been so ecstatic with a Welsh win; he would have had nothing to
moan about for the rest of the week. By identifying the deliberate
error in the programme we knew it would give him something to get
grumpy about.
Now, as
Bill's brother, you know what a grumpy old git he is. To have him
happy for a whole week, with nothing to grumble about, well we just
could not allow that to happen.Rest assured, Bill is still chairman at

Well done both teams!!!
The 1st XV win was a reflection of total commitment by
the whole squad. You were getting pushed backwards in a number of
scrummages; you lost quite a lot of your own lineout ball; and there was
some wild passing in open play. But, when the chips were down, you won
the ball at the right time and in the right places. Your defence was
outstanding throughout the entire game.
Win more set piece ball - and - wow - there will be no
stopping the rampant seahorse!!!
2nd XV; great effort considering there were quite a few
Abergele 1st XV players in the visiting side.

Well boys, a great contest on Saturday, with a display by
Mold of the finest rugby I have witnessed them play in four seasons of
involvement.
It is testament to your efforts that you managed to
contain their possession much of the time, with their scoring platform
developing from skilful inter-play and our missing/their slipping
tackles.
With respect, they are the title holders and played as
though they had everything to lose, which is a mark of how dangerous Bay
have become. Although the score line reinforces Mold's attacking flair,
it is based upon taking chances and relying on skills and well executed
running lines and support play. You lived with them on the edge but the
lesson to learn against opposition playing fast, open rugby through the
hands is to make every tackle count. On this occasion, it should be a
lesson learnt.
We have a true battle looming this week on our ground. A
Nant side so often the bridesmaid in this division and seeking the
title. Whilst still playing their attrition based rugby from set-piece
and tackle area, they have developed a flair for moving the ball quickly
out of the tackle area with sneaky off-loads and fast counter attacks
from turnovers. It will be a real test.
This week in training, our collective focus must be
placed upon enforcing our own style of play this Saturday. Patient work
with the ball, communication clear and concise, with clinical work in
the tackle area.
This game can be won, but it will not be easy. You simply
must operate like a pack of wolves, make every tackle count, defend with
real intensity and once in possession of the ball, be patient. Hit it up
and compete. Yardage will develop bit by bit and a time and space will
come, where a clinical and explosive attack can be executed. Stay
focused on the many elements of the game you are doing well and put
right the moments of indecision that have cost you points.

Massive contest this Saturday for 1st XV over at Mold.
Lets work together and put right the lapses in
concentration that have provided opposition with the opportunity to get
in amongst one of the best defensive lines in the league.
It is not often that you will face a team that can
totally outstrip you in every area of the game. And you are yet to meet
that level of opposition.
Mold are a strong squad with some fine players and a
reputation for playing fast, open rugby. They have gained momentum over
several seasons culminating in an unbeaten run last season. yes, they
are sitting in a position which may appear to potentially secure another
league win, but the top four sides in this league are all capable of
achieving excellent standards.
Bay have developed a fantastic work ethic, a wonderful
and vibrant off pitch club development programme, attendance at training
rarely drops and the work rate is beyond compare.
YOU have the ability, players, game structure and
intensity to beat any team you face. But YOU must raise your standard to
the max, line your opposition up, do not yield territory, make massive
tackles, compete for clean ball at the breakdown, distribute wisely and
attack at every opportunity.
Make no mistake, take your foot off the gas pedal at any
point in the game and Mold will capitalise. YOU can decide to let them
into the game by allowing them to run the ball....or not.
It will not be easy, but I believe you have the
capability to battle hard and win. Be patient, play YOUR game, don't
force the ball, let it develop with successive phases.
Whatever the outcome, know that I am immensely proud of
each and every one of you and your dedication to progressing yourselves
and your club to greater heights.

A bad day at the office at Wrexham but at least everyone
tried. I know you were on the wrong end of an inept refereeing
performance and did not get the rub of the green but as a team you
should aim to score more than enough points so that any shortcomings by
an official are negated. There were at least three scoring opportunities
that went begging that should have been converted into points finishing
needs to be clinical. Lets make sure that the lessons learned are put
into practice and we are back on track next Sat. against Newtown.

Has anyone picked up a Longton training top with initials
'NAP' ? I left it by the floodlights during the Wales vs. ROW, let me
know and I'll pick it up next time I'm down.

Well done to all the lads and crowd who braved the
elements to make this years Christmas match a good laugh. Some good
rugby played at times. Thanks also to Mike Owen who volunteered to help
out at short notice and helped make an enjoyable game. Congrats to the
Rest of The World team who avenged their loss last year.
