BAY SURPRISE WREXHAM Wrexham 2nds 0 Colwyn Bay 2nds 21 Colwyn Bay 2nds travelled to Wrexham for their last North East Wales League match and recorded an excellent win against League leaders Wrexham 2nds winning by 3 converted tries to nil. The Bay were able to bolster their side legitimately with some 1st teamers who were without a game and this added strength paid off with Bryn Williams pack leader for the day at No 8 and Sion Thomas on the flank providing some much needed mobility and focus in the loose. The visitors stuttered at the start when a straightforward penalty went wide but thereafter their quickness in the loose began to pay dividends and they went in front after 20 minutes when wing Jay Beardmore broke some tackles to score under the posts. Flyhalf Ashley James converted. The Bay went further ahead after half-time after wing Phil Dickson just managed to get over wide out on the blind after some sustained pressure from their forwards. Full back and skipper Haydn Phillips converted from the touch line. At this stage the Wrexham pack began to exert total control in both the set and at the line out but the Bay defence was resolute and prevented Wrexham from registering a single point. After 70 minutes scrum half Andy Williams-Owen seized on a ball that squirted out of yet another messy Bay scrum to deliver an exquisitely timed pass to enable Dickson to stroll in for his second try which Phillips again converted. The Bay can look now forward with confidence to their Premiership League campaign for the rest of the season with a top two finish a clear and realistic target.
