9th September '06 Wrexham 2ndXV 60 - Colwyn Bay 2ndXV 10 S Davidson The Bay travelled to Wrexham for their first game of the season three short of a full side. They borrowed 3 Wrexham lads but injuries to Ritchie Evans (eye), Dean Henson (knee) and Jay Beardmore (finger) further depleted their resources although the Wrexham production line thankfully kept providing replacements who oddly seemed to get increasingly smaller and younger. The Bay scored 2 unconverted tries- one in each half. The first after good handling by the backs saw wing Alex Wilkinson scoot over in the corner and the second by fly-half Dan Eames-Hughes who picked up a loose ball in his own half and outran the Wrexham defence to touch down following a five yard sidestep off his right foot which left the covering winger clutching air and the crowd ooing and aahhing. Unfortunately these were the only Bay highlights in a game dominated by the big, strong and wise Wrexham forwards who denied the Bay forwards possession for much of the game.Bobby Blackwell in the second row was as inspirational as ever as Skipper and was a shoe-in for man of the match. More strength and commitment is required on the flanks of the scrum and the outfield. N.B. TRAINING every WEDNESDAY at 7pm at the Club. Next game: Mold at home this coming Saturday 16th September Max Eames Hughes
