BAY BOUNCE BORDERERS
Caer Borderers 14 Colwyn Bay 2nds 31
Colwyn Bay 2nds travelled to Caergrwle to resume their North East Counties League Championship campaign with an efficient performance against old rivals Caer Borderers running in five tries (3 converted) to two (both converted). The Bay dominated throughout in both the loose and all phases of tight play with a pivotal performance from scrum-half Andy Williams-Owen who himself scored two tries, one of which was converted by fly-half Steve Thatcher. Earlier lock Martin Bratt had opened the Bay scoring and this was added to by full back Gareth Jenkins when he went over. Thatcher converted both tries. The Bay’s performance was good all round but flanker Richard Chinery and stand-in hooker Nick Trow were outstanding. The Bay scoring was rounded off by wing Lee Parkes to leave the Bay deserved winners looking forward to the much tougher challenge of their next League fixture against Abergele 1sts on St David’s Day when a good performance should see them challenging for League honours for the second season running.
