2nd XV v
Abergele 2nd XV - NW Plate Final
12th Sept '09
COLWYN BAY 2NDS 0 SHOTTON 73
A 73 – 0 home loss looks on the
face of it to be a horrific loss. An eleven tries (nine converted)
to none might sound like a bit of a drubbing and the rest of this
may sound like an excuse for a poor performance by the Bay but the
performance was NOT poor – inexperienced perhaps, naïve maybe, but
not poor. Poor suggests nobody was trying and that certainly and
most emphatically was not the case.
The Bay 2s’ season will no doubt
have one or two more results like this as the process of rebuilding
begins and continues throughout the season. The Club can take pride
in the knowledge that they were at least able to field a side on
Saturday. 11 of last season’s 2s were on First Team squad duty due
to First Team loss of players (3) and injuries (3). Add to that a
2s injury list of five players at least and it all spells out a lot
of credit to the players who actually turned out for the 2s – 8 of
whom (5 in backs and 3 up front) were playing Club Rugby for the
very first time.
The way the game went was not
kind to the Bay either with the whole of the front row having to
leave the pitch through injury leaving the scrum eventually
uncontested and the Bay down to 14 (even though 2 subs-not prop
types-remained). Is this right?!! Some mistake surely.
Enough already. Well done lads.
Big ups to Skipper Dean Henson, Rick Chinery at No 8, Rhys
Rowlands at full back, Nick Trow at fly half and hooker and
Laurence Beagley at flank for their whole hearted performances
throughout and it must be said that with a little more confidence
and experience from the newcomers things are going to get better.
Time will tell.
Oh yes: Shotton were superb:
heavy, strong, mobile and committed up front and fast, tireless,
skilful and elusive behind. They look like title contenders
already. |
