2nd XV Match Report Saturday 11th February '06 Colwyn Bay 59- Denbigh 5 Captain Bob Blackwell led his team to a great win over Denbigh
on Saturday. Blackwell elected to play up the steep slope in the first half,
meaning Bay would have to work hard from the very start. The heavier and fitter
Bay pack including Dean Henson and Chris Dentith found it easy to win good
possession. Bays 2nd team policy of playing wide running rugby paid off, as
classy fly half Duncan Auckland help spread the ball wide. The result of this
was a first half hat trick of tries for Bay winger Steve Davidson. This early
lead gave Bay the confidence to play even more daring attacking rugby. Bay soon
rattled up more points, tries going to Duncan Auckland, Barry Cravetto, Phil
Dixon and Ben Ashworth. As more of the same followed in the second half,
the result of the game became academic. Both sets of players turned their
attentions to other things, and the referee was forced to abandon this friendly
10 minutes early, as the game descended into a brawl. |
