BAY BEAT BENLLECH Colwyn Bay 2nds 24 Benllech 0 Unable to fulfil a home League fixture against Corwen due to an unfit pitch (game postponed to 3 May) Bay 2nds travelled to Benllech to score an impressive victory with a four tries (2 converted ) to nil win. What was particularly satisfying about this result was that the Bay showed great discipline in defence to prevent their opponents scoring a single point. Another plus point was the emergence of full back Tom Williams as a budding points machine. Williams ran in two tries after 7 and 38 minutes to leave the visitors 10-nil up at half time. Continuing strong work by the pack gave the backs plenty of ball in the second period but it was their superiority up front that enabled lock Dean Henson to charge over for the Bay’s third try after 43 minutes. Scrum-half Steve Thatcher converted. After 64 minutes Mark “Shaft” Bratt stretched his long right arm to touch down from a maul close to the Benllech line. Thatcher again converted. This was not perhaps the Bay’s strongest team that they could have put out but it does show the increasing strength in depth at the club which augurs well for the future at not only this level but also at 1st team level. This reporter salutes all those who are playing for this side and reserves special praise for those fringe players who show commitment at training and by travelling to the far flung parts of North Wales to support the team even though they spend a lot of their time standing on the sidelines and having “Water” yelled at them! |
