BAY FAIL TO HOLD MOLD MOLD 2NDS 13 COLWYN BAY 2NDS 0 The Bay 2nds travelled to Mold in the latest round of their North East Wales District League campaign last Saturday and put up a very creditable performance against the League champions eventually going down to a single converted try (and two penalties) to nil. With leading Bay players unavailable through injury, it was a makeshift pack that took to the field into a strong crosswind. For most of the first half the game was even with the untried Bay front row combination of Phil Roberts, Glyn Cartwright and Chris Dentith more than holding their own in the tight against a well organised Mold pack. The Bay were unlucky to find themselves 3-0 down at the break to a Mold penalty. Turning into the wind for the second half, the Bay’s growing confidence should have seen them score but a lengthy period encamped on the Mold line went unrewarded and repulsed by strong defence by the home side. The Bay eventually with ten minutes to go were outflanked wide out when Mold finally broke the deadlock with a converted try. Mold rounded off a hard fought victory when they kicked another penalty on full-time. The Bay side however can be proud of a resilient performance which bodes well for the rest of the season. |
