BAY KEEP UP THE PRESSURE CAER BORDERERS 12 COLWYN BAY 2NDS 22 Bay 2nds continued their good run of form with their third win in a row in their bid to win the North East Counties Championship with their trip last Saturday to Caergwli which saw them prevail over the Borders side by 4 tries (1 converted) to 2 (1 converted). The Bay dominated the first half with the Bay backs playing with fluency and confidence to run in three tries. Outside centre Dougie Graham opened the scoring with a deftly taken try wide out. Steve Davidson on the wing added to the tally before Adam Vallor on the other wing scored the Bay’s third on the half hour. Phil Dickson converted. Possession from the line out with 2nd row Richard Chinery and Nick Noble at No.8 both prominent winning a number of the Borderers throws and feeding tyro scrum-half Lee Parkes (a promising start) who with Dan Eames-Hughes at fly half distributed the ball excellently to the swift, strong and organised Bay backs. The Bay were not able to dominate so well in the second half. The Border men went over early on but immediately hit back with an immaculate drop-out from Dan Eames-Hughes which was quickly recycled with more good work from joint men of the match Nick Trow (flanker) and Anthony Jepson (prop) in the loose to let Dougie Graham run through from 25 yards out. Although Caer came back in the closing minutes to grab a consolation converted try, the Bay’s assurance in attack, improved line out play and strength in the loose stands them in good stead for the rest of the season after a two week break for the Six Nations.
