BAY 2NDS - SO GOOD THEY WON IT TWICE! Caer Borderers 21 Colwyn Bay 2nds 39 Bay 2nds travelled to Alyn School, Mold last Saturday to replay their League game against the Borderers and secured a convincing 5 tries (4 converted) and 2 penalties to 3 tries (all converted) victory over their closest title rivals to emphasise their dominance of the North East Counties Championship for this season. Caer went into an early lead while the Bay lads were still coming to terms with the small pitch but the Bay were quickly into their stride with a penalty from full-back Haydn Phillips followed by a try from scrum-half Ben Evans who barged in from close from the base of a consistently tight and strong Bay scrum. Ben Evans added another try in similar fashion five minutes later which Haydn Phillips converted. The Bay forward dominance continued for most of the rest of the match. Man of the match No8 and skipper Ritchie Evans scored a hat-trick of tries from close in as the Bay forwards maintained their superiority over a Caer side who wilted under the pressure on this very hot day for Rugby. Haydn Phillips potted two more conversions and Steve Thatcher a third as the Bay side gained the victory that their commitment and passion on the field throughout the season so richly deserved. Bay Scorers: Tries Ben Evans (2), Ritchie Evans (3); Conversions: Haydn Phillips (3), Steve Thatcher (1); Penalties :Haydn Phillips (2)
