BAY DENY DENBIGH COLWYN BAY 2ND XV 19 DENBIGH 2ND XV 17 Colwyn Bay 2nds continued their improved form with a fourth win on the trot in the North East Wales District League with a close game at home at Brookfield Drive last Saturday with a 3 tries (2 converted) to one victory. The visitors went in front when the mighty boot of their full back struck the first of his four penalties. The Bay responded when that same player showed less assurance with his hands and dropped a pass behind his own line which centre Phil Dickson pounced on to score and which full back Haydn Phillips converted. Those penalties and a try from the rugged visiting scrum half who broke through a number of weak tackles wide out to score saw Denbigh 17 points to 7 up at the break. The home side were glad to see the Denbigh full back substituted after 50 minutes and increased confidence up front saw them dominate a lot of the ball and after 70 minutes hooker Kev Fellows was able to emerge from the base of a huge forward push over the line for the Bay to get within 5 points. With two minutes to go, skipper and No 8 Ritchie Evans caught the Denbigh defence napping when from a quick tapped penalty he sliced through to dot down to bring the scores level. Phillips coolly slotted the conversion to win the game.
