BAY HIT TOP FORM AT DENBIGH
Denbigh 2nds 13 Colwyn Bay 2nds 38
The Bay 2nds travelled to Denbigh to notch up an impressive win against League Leaders Denbigh by six tries (4 converted) to two and one penalty in the latest round of their North East Counties league programme. In atrocious conditions, the Bay had the advantage of the wind, the slope and the rain in the first half and took full toll with a well organised pack controlling most of the ball where hooker Kev Fellowes was prominent both in the loose and with his throwing accuracy at line outs. The Bay reached half time 26 points to 5 up with tries from Phil Roberts (flanker), fly half Steve Thatcher, centre Dan Eames Hughes and Ritchie Evans (flanker). Thatcher converted two. The Bay might have faltered in the second half up the slope and into the elements but their front eight remained strong and competitive with Mark “Shaft” Bratt at the forefront and greater cohesiveness being given to the loose play with Skipper Evans returning after a four and a half month lay off with a shoulder injury. Bratt scored a try from close in, converted by Thatcher who scored his second late on to seal what proved to be a comfortable and satisfying victory. |
