BAY 2NDS TOO SHARP FOR FLINT FLINT 2NDS 24 COLWYN BAY 2NDS 38 Bay 2nds travelled to Flint for their latest fixture in their North East Wales District League season and in bitterly cold conditions came away with a very creditable 6 tries (4 converted) to 4 (2 converted) win against a strong Flint side boosted by the presence of many first team players. With the biting wind in their favour in the first half and some strong positional kicking from fly half Steve Thatcher and full back Rhys Rowlands, the Bay managed four tries (all converted by Thatcher). First Liam Hocknell at inside centre burst powerfully through the Flint defence to score close to the posts. Thatcher himself got the second try on 20 minutes after some good interpassing in the Bay Backs. Serge Cabazuelo at outside centre ran in from deep to dot down the third try and the Bay rounded off a very fruitful half when Phil ‘Goose’ Roberts at No 8 emerged from the base of a push over scrum as scorer of the Bay’s fourth try. The Bay turned round 28-10 up. Turning into the wind in the second half the Bay found it more difficult against the abrasive Flint forwards and with wing Steve Davidson sin binned for a late tackle the going was difficult but wing Alex Wilkinson was able to speedily outflank the corner- flagging Flint defence to score the Bays fifth and skipper and second row Bobby Blackwell rounded off the Bay’s day when he pounced on a loose ball close to the line. Good lines and sound handling by the backs, siege-gun defensive kicking and ball hungry up front, the Bay season goes from strength to strength.
