Mermaids Seniors Match Reports Sunday 21st October
Colwyn Bay Women vs. Bangor University Ladies
On Sunday afternoon Colwyn Bay Women played
their first game of rugby away to Bangor University at Menai Bridge RFC
ground. A Big effort and great team spirit made for a very entertaining game,
with good passing and evasive running by both sides.
Fielding two "first timers" in Nik Roberts and
Sandra Jones the forwards competed well in the rucks and mauls with Hannah
Roberts and Issy Jones prominent.
"Maid of the Match" Jane Owen, fed by scrum half Rebecca Gray controlled the
back line with centres Jess Rhodes and Gemma Pearson combining well. Speed
on the wing was provided by Mannon Roberts while Mari Arthur at full back
demonstrated her catching and kicking skills in her first game.
Perhaps the best move of the day followed some
superb passing by both forward and backs, resulting in Jess Rhodes touching
down in the corner and the difficult kick being completed by Jane Owen
The final score was 17 - 12 to Bangor, but
Colwyn Bay can feel proud of the way they competed against a more experienced
side. With more fixtures to come Colwyn Bay have the makings of a very good
team.
