Under 11's Match Reports 2009-2010

8th November '09

Colwyn Bay 35  Llandudno 7

The Bay team eventually overcame a good Llandudno team after the opening 10 minutes or so were very evenly matched. Llandudno had threatened the Bay try line a number of times but it was Josef McAlinden who broke the deadlock immediately before half time with a strong diagonal run to core wide out on the left wing after the forwards had secured the ball from a ruck. The second half however was a different matter. The Bay started confident that they could break the previously
determined Llandudno defence. Again the competition between the sides for possession was intense but it was the Bay who were better able to take advantage once they had had the ball.  Mathew was first to benefit from the hard work of forwards with another strong diagonal run out stripping the defence & denying a last ditch covering tackle to score in the right hand corner. Morgan then scored from short range. Llandudno then had their turn & scored a well taken try after some good passing & a decisive sprint for the line by the try scorer. They were soon however defending again & tries followed for the Bay from Liam & Brayden. All 5 tries were converted by Josef. There was no individual man of the match as the whole team played so well. Well done boys.

Nant Conwy - 27/9/09

Colwyn Bay continued from where they had left off from last week. Although Nant provided a much different opposition than Llangefni the young Bay side were undaunted. This weeks fixture saw the expected strong tackling, determined running & physical rucking & mauling from the Nant players. There was plenty of that physicality in the early exchanges & Colwyn Bay need to be at their defensive best. Brayden Harding opening the scoring. Nant replied quickly & it was obvious that the spectators were in for an entertaining game. There was much good interplay & no scores came easily but it was Colwyn Bay who dominated the scoring with 5 more tries (Michael Caldwell, Harry, Josef (2)) coming before Nant managed to score their second & final converted try. The Bay then confirmed their superiority with a further 3 tries (Brayden, Morgan, Harry) with a mixture of forward drives, strong running & super support work & offloading.
Again the whole team played well with Adam Jakeman, Sean MacIlvogue, Nathan Hall, Liam Wetherson & Rhodri Davies all making valuable contributions to the victory.  7 tries were converted by Harry (2), Josef, Morgan, Finlay & Brayden.
Man of the Match - Harry Jones (great tackle !!)

Llangefni - 20/9/09

Colwyn Bay put in a much improved performance this week at Llangefni. Immediately from the kick off
Colwyn Bay took the game to their hosts, with some strong & direct driving rugby, which led to an early try for Morgan Lumby, converted by Harry Jones. A second try came soon after with more good driving play leading to Harry getting the touch down, this time the conversion by Morgan was unsuccessful. The Bay scored three further tries in the first half, the scorers Josef McAlinden, Matthew Wood and a second for Morgan. All successfully converted, 2 by Josef & 1 by Brayden Harding.
Llangefni finished the half with a 7 points for converted try.
The Bay began the second half much the same way as the first half had started with a quick try. This time the team showed some good passing skills & potential to play open running rugby with Finlay Jones scoring in the left hand corner & converting himself.
Next to score was Rhodri Davies who made a superb & incisive run the full length of the pitch after catching the Llangefni restart kick & evading a number of tackles. He rounded off down the right wing to score in the right hand corner. Morgan scored a further 2 tries and the match ended as it had begun with more strong & determined driving rugby which this time ended in Brayden ripping the ball from a maul on the Llangefni try line & spinning off to score a well deserved try. Josef converted to draw the match to a close at 62 - 7 in the visitors favour.
There was no man of the match as the whole team had played so well, especially Sean McIlvogue & Nathan Hall who were making their debuts.
