Oswestry 42 v Colwyn Bay 0
The U12’s traveled to Oswestry on Sunday to play in a three way with
Oswestry and Telford.
C/bay’s first game was against Oswestry who had just convincingly
beaten Telford. Played on a small undulating pitch with lots of lush
grass!! Oswestry dominated the game spreading the ball wide and
breaking tackles with ease. Despite some strong runs by Clayton,
Ollie, Callum and Gwyl the Bay couldn’t break through the Oswestry
defense. Mention for Josh who continues to impress with his defense.
However Man of the Match was awarded to Ben Wilson who was all over
the field driving forward and tackling hard in defense.
Telford 17 v Colwyn Bay 15
The Boys showed up for the second game which was a tense affair with
all the boys putting in maximum effort to try and force a win. Try’s
came from Gwilym McCann after a good run by Callum Turner who
offloaded to Josh Moore who beat the defense before passing to Gwil
to score. The second score came when the ever-present Ben Wilson
took a quick penalty to dive over the line, catching the Telford
boys napping! The game then ebbed and flowed with Telford scoring a
couple of try’s to get back into the game. After half-time the Bay
had good possession and a long weaving run by Wil Bradfield nearly
resulted in a try although Telford tackled him just a couple of
meters short. Further driving runs by Clayton White and Gwil again
came up short. Eventually the Bay scored there final try with some
good passing along the line and the ball being recycled to Brad
Reid who sidestepped a couple of defenders before touching down.
With time running out the Bays defense was much more prominent and
kept Telford out. Unfortunately a clearance kick in the final
seconds of the match was partly charged down, and fell into the
hands of a Telford player who dived over to level the scores. Then,
with the last kick of the game Telford converted the try to win
17-15.
The coaches were pleased with the increased effort showed by all the
players in this second game.
Man of the Match Gwilym McCann for his all round play and bossing
the forwards at rucks and mauls.
Lets take this form and attitude into the next game boys.

Colwyn Bay 20 v
Llangefni 5
Colwyn Bay traveled away to Llangefni with a depleted team of 12 due
to unavailability’s, only to find Llangefni with only six players!
After a long wait the game was started with the Llangefni team
boosted by some of their own U11’s and some C/Bay U11’s. Many thanks
to all the U11 players who played for both teams, you did yourselves
proud.
C/Bay started well recycling the ball in ruck & maul and it was
pleasing to see the ball being passed out along the backline. The
Bay’s first try came from such a move with the ball eventually
getting to Will Bradfireld on the wing, who weaved his way around a
number of players before scoring wide out on the wing.
The second Bay try came when C/Bay won possession at a ruck,
scrumhalf Gwilym McCann, passed out to fly half, Bradley Reid, who
dodged, sidestepped and broke through numerous tackles, running half
the pitch to score.
Llangefni came back strongly, with the C/Bay U11 players showing up
strongly in the Llangefni side. After some strong running the
Llangefni hooker crashed over for a try.
The second half saw the Bay backs producing some excellent running
rugby, Joshua Moore at inside centre was very prominent. It was
from a scything break by Joshua, who linked up with Tom Bradfield in
support, which resulted in Tom cutting back inside to score the
third try.
The Bays final try came from Bay’s forwards and backs linking up
well. Ollie Roberts ripped the ball from a maul on the halfway line,
powered up field and some smart inter-passing between the forwards
ended in a ruck. The ball was won quickly and passed out along the
backline. Joseff (U11) received the ball out on the right, beat a
couple of defenders to score an excellent team try.
Special mention for Kane Lindfield who is making some excellent
tackles early in his rugby career.
Man of the Match
goes to Josh Moore
for some exciting attacking rugby.
PS. Thanks to the referee, Tony Lumby, who did an excellent job |
