Under 15's Match Reports 2009-2010

8th May '10

DENBIGH U15's  27             COLWYN BAY U15's  17.

A fitting end to this seasons rugby, as Colwyn Bay faced Denbigh in this pulsating Saturday afternoon encounter.

Denbigh pulled away from an unsettled 'Bay fifteen within the first twelve minutes of kick off, with two well worked run in tries (one converted). 'Bay's reply was immediate and direct. With forward momentum, the visitors breached Denbigh's defense as Jules Shiel powered over the white wash (unconverted) to reduce the daylight between the two scores. 'Bay continued to apply the pressure and equal Denbigh's scoring tally with a Jack Foster try (converted). First half ended 12 - 12.

Colwyn Bay competed well during the second half, but failed to contain Denbigh's running backs. The hosts pulled away from 'Bay as they ran in two mid game tries (unconverted). Again, 'Bay battled on, as forward power launched Jack Foster over the chalk to score his second try of the encounter (unconverted). With minutes remaining, 'Bay conceded a penalty on the 5 meter line. With fearsome passion, 'Bay's forwards overwhelmed the attacking Denbigh pack, to earn them a scrum on the five. The ball was cleared, but safely claimed by the Denbigh backline. Stretching the visitors defense, Denbigh shipped the ball out wide to score the final try of the match.

All the 'Bay players contributed towards this exciting encounter. However, one player displayed incredible power in the loose, hard tackling around the park, with control in the scrum. As a result Colwyn Bay's Man of the Match is Krystn Yeomans.

CHESTER UNDER 15's TOURNAMENT 17th/18th APRIL '10

COLWYN BAY U15’s  22           WINNINGTON PARK U15’s  7

A tournament of mixed fortunes, saw ‘Bay progress on to the ‘Shield Cup Final’, and face Cheshire team Winnington Park in this highly entertaining end of competition encounter.

With match time limited to10 minutes each way, both teams had to hit the ground running. ‘Bay opened their account with two first half tries from Lewis Stockton and Kieran Fardoe (both unconverted). Winnington replied with a jinking run in try (converted) to end the first half with a 3 point deficit.

Colwyn Bay closed Winnington out in the second half, as Callum Mitchell crashed over the white wash (converted) putting ‘Bay into a 10 point comfort zone. This was soon endorsed with a sniping try by Kieran Fardoe (unconverted)

Full credit to all Colwyn Bay players. All of whom contributed towards this weekend of tough running rugby.

As for Colwyn Bay’s player of the tournament. One player’s try count during the weekend’s competition entered double figures. Brilliant line breaks left the opposition standing. As a result, Lewis Stockton has been named our Player of the Tournament.

FLINT U15's  22                COLWYN BAY U15's  17

Colwyn Bay failed to contain Flint during the first half. Poor awareness, lack of support, spilt ball and white line fever cost 'Bay the game. On multiple occasions, the 'Bay attacking backline created space, but failed to deliver quick ball in favour of the impossible half yard more. Knock on's plagued most of 'Bay's efforts as Flint capitalised on playing the advantage. The visitors were not far off the pace, but an error strewn half allowed Flint to go into the second half with a 17 point buffer.

Flint began the second half by adding to their 17 point tally with a run in try (unconverted). 'Bay regrouped, sniping for gaps in the host defence, Callum Mitchell broke free from a ruck to score the first of his two tries (unconverted). Zak Hudson added to the scoreline with a run in break away try (converted) to put 'Bay to within a converted try of stealing the game. A stretched Flint defence managed to close out 'Bay's attacking options and end this encounter with a 5 point lead.

Two player's had an exceptional game, Scrum Half Kieran Fardoe and Loose Head Prop Callum Mitchell. As a result, both player's have been named Man of the Match.

COLWYN BAY U15's  38           LLANGEFNI U15's 10

On previous encounters, Llangefni had systematically ripped Colwyn Bay apart, leaving the team only pride to play for. Tonight, under floodlights, 'Bay stepped up a level, as Llangefni were the team playing for pride, as they struggled to gain a foothold on this highly entertaining game. Llangefni opened the scoring with a sweetly timed backline move. 'Bay replied immediately with a Lewis Stockton try.

The opening exchanges were closely contested, 'Bay conceded an early penalty on their 22. With points up for grabs, Llangefni opted for the safe three points. This was the last time the Islanders led. Colwyn Bay began to dominate all phases of play: scrummaging, lineout's, line breaks, rucking and mauling were executed at a high level. Llangefni were met in the tackle area, and struggled to break free of 'Bay's grip.

Recycled ball from powerful forward play, enabled the backline to create overlaps and split the visitors defence. Lewis Stockton, Zak Hudson and Callum Mitchell each scored a brace of tries to put this game beyond Llangefni.

It is difficult to choose a Man of the Match, as all of the Colwyn Bay players stepped up to the plate and delivered. As a consequence, all the team has been named Man of the Match.

Finally, a big thank you to the Llangefni. They contributed hugely towards this high tempo encounter, and as expected, they continued to play exciting running rugby right up to the final whistle.

COLWYN BAY U15's   53                RHYL U15's  0

To state that this was an emphatic win for the 'Bay, would be unfair to a visiting team whom are not only in transition, but on this occasion undermanned. However (even with the loan of two 'Bay player's) it is difficult to ignore the score line. 'Bay were in total control, with the forwards creating multi phase ball, from which an attacking backline had time and space to open up the visitors defense. Lewis Stockton excelled with the open running game and ran in four tries (three converted) to put the game beyond Rhyl during the early stages of the first half. Scrum Half Jamie Williams added to the try count with a well worked corner flag touch down (converted) to take Colwyn Bay into 33 - 0 first half lead.

'Bay continued to keep the scoreboard ticking over during the second half, with tries from Callum Mitchell, Kieran Fardoe, Zak Hudson and Patrick Atkinson. Rhyl countered at every opportunity, but lack of possession made this a rarity.

Matt Phelan controlled the line out, Jules Shiel made the hard yards in attack. 'Bay's front row of Matt Heywood (replaced by Cameron Parry in second half) Jordan Wilson and Callum Mitchell were exceptional. However, at Fly Half, Alex Trowman was pivotal in today's win and as a result, has been named Man of the Match.

WREXHAM U15's  22                COLWYN BAY U 15's  33

Sadly, with such a large squad of player's. 'Bay (again) struggled to field a starting fifteen. Unavailability being the main concern. With this in mind, 'Bay adapted and competed well against a strong Wrexham team. The hosts opened the scoring with a simple run in try (unconverted). Colwyn Bay were never far off the pace and pulled back and extended the deficit at every opportunity. Jack Foster, Lewis Stockton and Patrick Atkinson displayed moments of individual brilliance to put this game beyond a Wrexham during the latter stages of the second half.

Special mention to the following: Dan and Rob Hughes, both of whom put in try saving tackles, secured and distributed high ball under pressure. Jules Shiel and Kieran Fardoe slowed Wrexham's forward momentum. Matt Scott, strong in the tackle area. Sion Jones battled well against his opposite number. Alex Trowman endorsed his position at Fly Half with vision and special awareness.

Four players stood out today: Lewis Stockton, Jack Foster and Matt Phelan. However, Pat Atkinson has created an incredible amount of attacking and defensive options from his new field position at Full back, for this reason Pat has been named Man of the Match.

NANT CONWY U15's  7                   COLWYN BAY U15's  8

Colwyn Bay travelled to Trefriw to face Nant Conwy in this unscheduled but much welcomed fixture. Both teams were equally matched, as attacking options were countered throughout this encounter. 'Bay were successful at bisecting Nant's defence, but failed to create a succession of third and fourth phase ball, as (in some cases) the miracle pass remained a viable but foolish option. Colwyn Bay's forwards settled, creating space to unleash their running backs. Winger, Zak Hudson ran in 'Bay's only try (unconverted). Nant remained threatening, strong rucking and mauling propelled the pack over the chalk (converted) to put them into a slight first half lead.

The second half was end to end, as both teams battled hard to open up the score line. 'Bay got a sniff of the white wash, but steadfast Nant defence was enough to keep their noses in front. With time running out, Nant conceded a penalty on their 22. Kieran Fardoe successfully kicked for three points, which took 'Bay into a 1 point match winning lead.

This was an encouraging display of determined rucking/ mauling and open running rugby. With a number of key play makers unavailable for this encounter. Colwyn Bay proved that they can field a strong 15 from a squad of 26 players. All the 'Bay players displayed a huge amount of self belief, determination, commitment and maturity to earn this win against a much respected Nant team.

Special mention for Ashley Jones, fearsome in the tackle area. Kieran Fardoe's work rate at the breakdown, securing 50/50 ball kept 'Bay's attacking options open. Matthew Heywood, strong ball carrier. Pat Atkinson and Alex Trowman combined well in attack. However, for his relentless tackling, securing of loose ball and pack work, Jules Shiel has been named Man of the Match.

Colwyn Bay U15's   15     Nant Conwy U15's    5

Colwyn Bay dominated the first half of this encounter. Measured kicks, line breaks, strong scrummaging, turnover ball and inspired tackling kept Nant pinned in their own half. Lewis Stockton crossed the whitewash twice (1 converted) to put 'Bay into a commanding lead which was endorsed by a Kieran Fardoe touchline penalty, to take the hosts into a 15 - 0 1st half lead.

Nant upped their game during the 2nd half, forcing 'Bay into defending a forward orientated assault on a heavily defended try line. Colwyn Bay absorbed the mounting pressure, but failed to contain the Nant pack as recycled ball was snapped up within the 5 metre area, gifting the visitors the only try of the 2nd half (unconverted). All Colwyn Bay players had a fantastic game, with special mention to the following: Kieran Fardoe, Jack Foster and Callum Mitchell all of whom battled effectively, securing and winning turnover and 50/50 ball, which kept Nant on the defending back foot. Alex Trowman controlled the midfield while Patrick Atkinson countered from fullback at every opportunity. Lewis Stockton's pace and awareness took him over the tryline for a brace of tries and for this reason, he has been named Man of the Match.

Llangefni U15's    49             Colwyn Bay U15's   5

A huge deficit, however, 'Bay were in contention during the first half, containing Llangefni's efforts with grim determination. Forward strength was apparent during 'Bay's purple patch, as Llangefni struggled to clear their lines. With control, the visiting pack created attacking options from within the hosts 22. Quick ball from the breakdown gifted 'Bays attacking backline a run in try, as the ball was sweetly spun through the hands gifting Stand Off, Patrick Atkinson a simple touch down (unconverted). Colwyn Bay continued with the pressure as Jack Foster powered through, dropping down on a chip ball. Unfortunately, the referee was unsighted and disallowed the try. First half ended 12-5.

The flood gates opened during the second half, as 'Bay failed to contain and counter Llangefni's "play maker". The islanders ran in seven unanswered tries (one converted) putting the game beyond an over stretched 'Bay 15. Llangefni had the added advantage of fresh legs during this half. Colwyn Bay struggled, with no substitutes, the only option was damage limitation. A very difficult encounter, with a special mention to the following: Ieuan Jones, very vocal, strong in the attack. Andrew Lloyd, never phased in defence. Matt Phelan, his tackling and ball retention in the breakdown restricted Llangefni's attacking options. As for Man Of The Match.

Two players threw everything into this game, Alex Trowman and Jack Foster battled all 50/50 ball, spoilt and were a menace around the park. For this reason both players are named MOTM.

Bangor U15's   22       Colwyn Bay U15's     22

A strong Colwyn Bay squad travelled to face Bangor in this hastily arranged fixture. Following last seasons emphatic win against a struggling Bangor team, 'Bay were in confident mood.
Within minutes, Bangor began to redress the balance. A breakaway try (converted) on the left wing, left 'Bay reeling as the hosts controlled a majority of the early exchanges. Bangor countered most of 'Bays efforts, again, running in a converted try to take them into a 14 - 0 first half lead.

The second half saw 'Bay taking control, rucking, mauling, recycled ball and a swift passing took the visitors into the heart of Bangor's defence. Facing tough opposition, centre Ashley Jones battled his way through staunch defence to open 'Bay's account (converted Patrick Atkinson). Bangor regrouped, again taking the score line away from Colwyn Bay as they ran in their third try of the game (unconverted). 'Bay remained composed, putting phases together, recycled ball propelled the 'Bay backline towards the beckoning Bangor try line, as scrum half Kieran Fardoe squeezed over to score a much needed try (unconverted). Bangor grabbed their opportunities, a penalty conceded on the visitors 22 was successfully converted, forcing 'Bay into chasing the extending score line. With five minutes remaining, 'Bay powered towards the Bangor tryline, as flanker Ieuan Jones secured loose ball (unconverted), to take them to within a converted try of stealing the game. With the clock counting down, 'Bay continued their assault on the Bangor try line. An unforced Bangor penalty gifted Colwyn Bay the opportunity to end their losing streak. A quickly taken Callum Mitchell tap penalty was brought down within inches of the try line. Immediately, 'Bay recycled, spreading the ball wide to gift Kieran Fardoe his second try on the tight left (unconverted).

A hugely entertaining game, with a special mention to the following players: Callum Mitchell, bolstered 'Bays attacking pack, securing 50/50 ball. Ashley Jones, highly influential in midfield. Lewis Stockton, for his relentless attacking and counter attacking. Krystn Yeomans had a excellent debut at tight head with Andrew Lloyd being highly effective on the left wing.

Kieran Fardoe adapted well to his new position at scrum half, plenty of line breaks, quick ball distribution and an ability to keep his team mates on the front foot with measured overhead kicks, as a result, Kieran has been named Man of the Match.

Rhyl U15's  35     Colwyn Bay U15's  0

This should have been an evenly matched encounter, ‘Bay did equal much of Rhyl’s rugby playing ability, hard tackles, recycled ball, well contested line outs and steadfast scrummaging were executed at a high standard. However, Colwyn Bay failed to create space, blindly opting for a midfield tussle. With a blinkered approach and a redirected focus, ‘Bay struggled for cohesion, ignoring space out wide in favour of the more challenging direct route. Rhyl countered effectively, running in the majority of their tries from broken play.

Special mention for the following players: Edward Lloyd, his tackling was direct, hard, committed and well timed. Dan Hughes had a tough game at scrum half, but coped well with the relentless pressure from his opposite number. Cameron Parry, Matt Heywood and Matt Phelan where solid in attack and defence..

Thomas Jones seems to have turned a corner, great awareness around the park, an ability to close down angles and effective tackling were apparent during today’s encounter, as a result, Tom has been awarded Man of the Match.

COLWYN BAY U15    15       MOLD U15     32

Colwyn Bay competed well during this encounter.  A cohesive and committed 15, forced Mold to fight all the way.  'Bays forwards and backline combined well, angles of attack, support in the loose and rucked ball, were executed with vision and positional awareness, with the pack mostly dominating the set piece.
Overall 'Bay were not outplayed, but at times, the first-up tackling was poorly executed, allowing Mold to create scoring opportunities from 'a nothing ball'.

Patrick Atkinson and Callum Mitchell both navigated their way onto the scoreboard with a try a piece (1 converted), Kieran Fardoe added to the score line with a 40 metre drop' goal resulting from a penalty.

This was a huge improvement by Colwyn Bay.  Each player fronted up to, potentially, one of the best teams in North Wales and as a result all of the Colwyn Bay team have been named ' Man of the Match'.

A special mention to Samuel Jones and Andrew Lloyd, both of whom, on their debut for the team, contributed towards this confident display of open running rugby from Colwyn Bay.

COLWYN BAY U15's  19  NANT CONWY U15's  33

Injuries, sickness and unavailability left 'Bay struggling to field a starting 15. Fortunately, 'Bay's numbers were boosted by the inclusion of two under 14 team members, Arash Movahedi and Sean Sheridan, which allowed some flexibility with positional selections.

Colwyn Bay managed to contain much of Nant's efforts during the majority of this encounter, with Lewis Stockton and Callum Mitchell keeping Nant's score line within scope. Unfortunately, the host's backline failed to capitalise on gaining field position from the boot, in favour of running the short ball and looking for the miracle pass out of contact, gifting their opponents the opportunity to run the ball back at will.

'Bay's forwards were effectively strong in the set piece, forcing Nant onto the back foot with ease, yet, failed to punish Nant's backline with turn over ball, opting to head straight back into the break down area, spurning any opportunity out wide. In the last quarter, Nant managed to put day light between the scores as they crossed the white wash to touch down the only try of the second half.

Colwyn Bay battled courageously. There were times when 'Bay could have pulled the scores closer. However, lack of cohesion and squad members playing out of position, this was never going to be an easy game. All players put in a huge effort, with two players deserving a special mention: Jordan Wilson did the unglamorous work in the tight, securing loose ball, working well around the fringes and was hugely effective in his hooking duties. Ashley Jones was totally focused, played with a controlled aggression which was inspirational and could have led to scoring opportunities. As a result both players have been named Man of the Match.

WREXHAM U 15's  34               COLWYN BAY U15's  20

Sickness and injuries were a contributing factor with today's encounter, as 'Bay's travelling team struggled to make a 15. However, 'Bay were committed and battled hard against a powerful Wrexham backline. Slight of foot by Jake Evans regularly opened up the Wrexham defence, although lack of support often left the full back isolated.

Wrexham countered at every opportunity. Slack tackling and space out wide gifted the hosts 4 run in tries (2 converted). Colwyn Bay replied with two tries (unconverted) as Kieran Fardoe and Jack Foster powered over the touch line to keep the Wrexham score line within scope.

The second half mirrored the first, as 'Bay continued the chase the game. Wrexham ran in two more tries (unconverted) to put daylight between the scores. 'Bay were resilient, forward strength put the hosts on the back foot as flanker Kieran Fardoe peeled off to score his second try of the match (unconverted). Following the restart, and with 10 minutes remaining, 'Bay managed to contain Wrexham's efforts as Lewis Stockton capitalised on fragmented play on the half way line, to run in a 50m try (unconverted). 'Bay continued with their late forward serge, keeping the hosts pinned their 22. Turnover ball from a 'Bay scrum failed to find touch as Patrick Atkinson gathered and countered, with the try line beckoning, Wrexham managed to regain control and clear the ball into touch, to the welcoming shrill of the final whistle.

A special mention to the following players: Thomas Jones, raised his game immensely, meeting the opposition in the tackle area. Sean T, powerful with ball in hand. Matthew Scott, highly effective in the aerial line out battle. Sion Jones, constantly creating attacking options from break down/ set piece situations.

Team Captain, Kieran Fardoe lead through example and as a result, has been named Man of the Match.

COLWYN BAY U 15's  15   FLINT U 15's  19

Flint controlled the majority of this game from the outset, as a well drilled 8 were instrumental in pushing 'Bay back towards their 5m line with startling regularity. The hosts managed to absorb an intense period of pressure, as Flint unleashed a barrage of forward orientated attacks. The try line was at the mercy of the visiting tight five on a number of occasions, remarkably, 'Bay's scrambled defense was enough to deny Flint an early try. The visitors regrouped and stretched the 'Bay backline to breaking point, as they opened up a fragmented defense to run in the only try of the half (unconverted)

Colwyn Bay battled hard during the early exchanges of the second half, as they turned defense into attack. Flint struggled to contain 'Bay's line breaks, conceding a penalty on their 10m, which was converted by Patrick Atkinson. Flint upped the tempo, decisive backline running fused by an indecisive 'Bay defense, gifted the visitors two run in tries (both converted) to takes Flint into a 16 point lead. As the match entered its final quarter, 'Bay's resilience and stamina began to pay dividence as they began to make significant inroads into the heart of Flints hurried defense. Callum Mitchell and Jack Foster punished a panicked backline to run in two hard worked tries (both converted), to take this into a nail biting finale. Colwyn Bay continued with the pressure, taking play to within a sniff of Flints try line. An adjudged knock on was enough for the visitors to clear the line from a set piece and launch the ball into touch to save, what potentially could have been a Colwyn Bay victory.

Jordan Wilson battled hard during this encounter, supporting and recycling 50 50 ball. However, three players were instrumental in Colwyn Bay's fight back, Jack Foster, Callum Mitchell and Kieran Fardoe and for this reason all three have been named Man of the Match.

Colwyn Bay U15's  34   St. Columbus (Co. Wicklow) U15's  22

Colwyn Bay were in control of this early evening encounter from the outset, as No. 8 Callum Mitchell scooped up free ball from a Lewis Stockton tackle, to put the 'Bay on the scoreboard within 10 seconds of the kick off (unconverted). St. Columbus quickly settled into the game, as their well drilled backline created several scoring opportunities, but failed to put points on the board, as 'Bay's defence snuffed out any chance the tourists had of crossing the try line. With direction and inspired decision making, the 'Bay three quarter line began to open up St. Columbus's retreating defence, resulting in Kieran Fardoe and Patrick Atkinson both crossing the white wash respectively (unconverted) to put Colwyn Bay into a healthy first half lead.

The game opened up during the second half, as both teams attacked and counter attacked. St. Columbus scored the first of their four second half tries (one converted). In reply, 'Bay ran in three tries (two converted) as Ashley Jones, Jack Foster and Lewis Stockton put the game beyond the tourists. 'Bay may have taken their foot off the gas, but they remained focused and in control. Interplay between forwards and backs kept the ball moving, keeping St.Columbus on the defending back foot.

Special mention to the following players: Ashley Jones, never out of the game, totally committed and focused, Jack Foster, powerfully effective at inside centre, Cameron Parry, a huge asset to the 'Bay front row and Callum Mitchell, whom controlled the set pieces from the base of the scrum, breaking the gain line at will. However, Patrick Atkinson was inspirational at fly half, his timing, ball distribution and line breaks were instrumental in today's win. As a result, Patrick has been named Man of the Match.

Nant Conwy U 15's 24   Colwyn Bay U15's 19

A disappointed Colwyn Bay squad left Nant Conwy, following a hugely impressive 2nd half fight back.

The early stages of the 1st half were pretty equal, as both teams failed to threaten each respective try line. Unfortunately, with blinkered regularity, the 'Bay backline became indecisive as they spurned any attacking opportunity out wide, in favour of attempted crash ball through Nant's midfield defence.  As a consequence, Nant made the most of turnover ball and eventually ran in to score the only try of the 1st half (unconverted).

Colwyn Bay began the 2nd half with a reshuffled backline. The early exchanges went Nant's way, as they capitalised on Colwyn Bay's unforced errors, which lead to them crossing the whitewash on 2 occasions (1 converted) to put the game beyond 'Bay. Fortunately Colwyn Bay were not singing from the same hymn sheet and hit back with 3 rapid tries in succession (2 converted), as Matthew Heywood, Alex Trowman and Pat Atkinson all touched down to put the visitors into a slender 2 point lead. Colwyn Bay failed to contain Nant, as a set piece on 'Bay's 5 metre line lead to the hosts squeezing over on the tight left to score a valuable try (converted).  With maturity and direction, 'Bay reclaimed ball from the restart and with seconds remaining, flying wing, Lewis Stockton, broke free of Nant's rush defence to run in a 50 metre try. However, the far side linesman adjudged foot in touch, to deny the winger a match winning try.

To comeback from a 17 - 0 deficit and lead the game into the last few minutes proves that 'Bay have a belief in their match playing ability.

Callum Mitchell had an impressive game as blindside flanker, taking the ball into the heart of Nant's defence at every opportunity.  For this reason Callum has been named man of the match.

Colwyn Bay U15's   5     Llangefni U15's  24

Colwyn Bay managed to control the early exchanges of this encounter, but failed to turn possession into much needed points. The visitors absorbed the pressure, controlling the game from the base of the scrum. Lack of direction in mid-field allowed Llangefni to gain yardage, as 'Bay failed to commit and close out the islander's attacking options. 'Bay had purple patches, however, support in open play was limited as players found themselves isolated.

Llangefni ran in four tries, all from set pieces (2 converted). Colwyn Bay managed to score a conciliation try, with seconds remaining, quick ball from Kieran Fardoe put the backline into action as Llangefni struggled to contain the flow of play. Jack Foster and Lewis Stockton stretched the visitors defence, deft ball was spun out to Adam Michelmore to score the final try of the match (unconverted).

A difficult game, with merits going to the 'Bay front row of Callum Mitchell, Ieuan Jones and Cameron Parry, all of whom fronted up to the Llangefni tight five. Kieran Fardoe controlled Colwyn Bay's attacking options and was instrumental in keeping 'Bay focused during a challenging game. As a result, Kieran has been named Man of the Match

Tries: Adam Michelmore (1)

Colwyn Bay U 15's 19      Denbigh U15's  12

Colwyn Bay welcomed Denbigh Brookfield Drive, to open this season's Under 15's age group fixtures.

The first half was a stop start affair, with the penalty count against both teams being a dominant statistic. The only highlight of this error strewn half, ironically, resulted from a Colwyn Bay penalty. A quickly taken tap ball was hoisted diagonally, cross field by Kieran Fardoe, to be gathered up a chasing Jamie Williams to score the only try of the half (unconverted).  First half ended 5 - 0.

Both teams reduced the penalty count during the second half allowing the game to flow. Denbigh increased the pressure, powering through to score the opening try of the half (unconverted).  'Bays reply was instant, loose ball from the restart was fumbled by Denbigh as Jake Evans slowed ball distribution, allowing a sprinting Alex Trowman to rip the ball free and run in a much needed Colwyn Bay try (converted, Kieran Fardoe).  Denbigh hammered at 'Bay's back line but failed to breach their steadfast defence. 'Bay then turned defence into attack, and advanced up field punching holes in the visitors backline. With the try line beckoning, 'Bay spread the ball wide, with work to do, Jack Foster (Centre) crashed through a hurried Denbigh defence to score his debut try (converted).

Denbigh continued to make the hard yards as their outside half managed to create enough space to score the final try of this encounter (converted).

This was a confident start to the season.  Two players had an outstanding match, Matthew Phelan not only dominated the lineout, but his tackling was bone shakingly accurate.  Jack Foster had an exceptional game, not only scoring an impressive debut try, but man-marked and equalled one of the best attacking players in North Wales. As a result, both players have been named "Man of the Match".
