Colwyn Bay U7s 6 Denbigh
U7/U8s 5
This was a great performance
from the Colwyn Bay U7 players. They took the game to Denbigh in
the first half with confidence and were 3-1 up. Cian Elias scored a
great early try and there was some good passing and support play in
the run-up to Cerys Cuddhy scoring. Denbigh were unable to stop
Jennifer Elliot who scored after running almost the length of the
pitch.
Denbigh came back in the second
half, but Colwyn Bay kept their cool. Teddy Roberts demonstrated
good support play and confident hands, twice putting himself in the
right place to score tries. Gage Wilson-Noon used his agility to
edge through the Denbigh defence for a try. There were also strong
performances from two of the newest Colwyn Bay recruits, Nina
Clemson and Jaden Jones.
Thanks to all the U7 parents,
siblings, grandparents and friends for their continuing support – it
is much appreciated!

Ruthin U7s 9 –
Colwyn Bay U7s 7
Colwyn Bay made the journey to Ruthin. Ruthin won the toss and
decided to kick off. Ruthin scored immediately from the
kickoff before Colwyn Bay had started to focus on the match. Colwyn
Bay immediately struck back after Jennifer Elliot made the first of
a fine series of breaks and runs in the first half. This was
followed by tries from Declan Harding, Cerys Cuddhy and a second
from captain of the day Jennifer Elliot. Good support and great
running saw Colwyn Bay break the line on numerous occasions. Good
pressure and tagging saw Colwyn Bay limit Ruthin to two tries.
With the turnaround Colwyn Bay had to play up the slope and with no
substitutes available, tired legs enabled Ruthin to start to break
through regularly. Colwyn Bay stuck at the task and a number of good
runs from Gregory Hopkins and Cerys Cuddhy saw the Ruthin line
threatened but the ball was turned-over at the final moment. Colwyn
Bay did score 3 tries through Jennifer Elliot, to get her well
deserved hat-trick, Cerys Cuddhy and Gregory Hopkins, but Colwyn
Bay were outscored by Ruthin to give a final score of 9-7.
Again another improved performance with excellent running and
support in attack with good pressure and tagging in defence.

Colwyn Bay U7s 5 – Bro
Ffestiniog U8/U7s 4
Colwyn Bay U7s continue to make
great progress and thoroughly deserved their win. Bro got an early
try but Colwyn Bay kept their composure and pushed forward for first
Sam Trethowan-Haycox then Jennifer Elliot to score, despite some
slightly scrappy passing due to limited support. Bro had the upper
hand for a little while but the Colwyn Bay players put them under
some pressure to win the ball back before Bro turned over the ball
near the Colwyn Bay try line. Two strong runs from Gage Wilson-Noon
and Aaron Newman were followed by a good pass to Cerys Cuddhy in
support to score just before half time.
Colwyn Bay’s game improved
further in the second half, with stronger tagging and better support
play. Bro also upped their game to score three tries and Aaron
Newman used his strength to push forward and score two back for the
Bay. Mention should also be made of Gregory Hopkins who worked hard
to take two try-saving tags.

Nant Conwy 10 Colwyn Bay 4
On a cold frosty morning Colwyn Bay made the short
journey up the Conwy Valley to Nant. Due to illness and injury the
hosts were one player short, showing true sportsmanship Aaron Newman
volunteered to represent the opposition. Cowlyn Bay got off to a
particularly slow start and came under immediate pressure
from a strong Nant Conwy team. Despite some determined and
persistent defensive tagging from Cerys Cuddhy and Declan Harding
Colwyn Bay conceded 5 tries in the first half without response.
Demonstrating considerable character and commitment Colwyn Bay stuck
to the task in the second half with Gregory Hopkins taking the
initiative with some direct and incisive running which in turn was
rewarded with 3 tries. Jennifier Elliot’s relentless determination
resulted in a superb individual try that cut through the heart of a
solid defence. Nant Conwy’s consistent pressure throughout the half
culminated in another 5 tries being added to their tally; however it
should be acknowledged that 3 tries were scored by their loaned
player Aaron Newman. Although perhaps not reflected in the score
line this was a good overall performance by Colwyn Bay in particular
credit must be given to their genuine enthusiasm and positive
attitude throughout.
Nant Conwy 6 Colwyn Bay 4
Colwyn Bay produced another spirited performance,
Aaron Newman returned to the fold with Cerys Cuddhy volunteering to
represent Nant Conwy, a gesture that endorsed the player’s attitude
to fair play and sportsmanship. This encounter was a much more even
contest; Gregory Hopkins continued to make incisive penetrating runs
throughout the game being denied several scoring opportunities by a
disciplined Nant Conwy defence. Straight running, support and short
passing began to pay dividends with tries being the reward for
Jennifier Elliot and Declan Harding. Further impact was prevented
by sturdy resistance from Nant Conwy with our own Cerys Cuddhy being
instrumental taking several tags. Nant Conwy began to dominate
possession and took full advantage it by running in 3 tries before
the interval. Colwyn Bay conceded two quick tries early in the
second half, but remained focused and responded with a well worked
try, a break by Cian Elias created space behind the defence and an
accurate pass allowed Gregory Hopkins the opportunity of a long
meandering run to the try line. The restart allowed Nant Conwy to
apply another phase of intense pressure which finally penetrated the
tireless Colwyn Bay defence resulting in their sixth try. With the
game almost over Gage Wilson-Noon took possession of the ball found
some space and accurately passed to Aaron Newman, whose strong
direct running drew in the defence allowing a pass to the supporting
player Samuel Trethowen –Haycox who scored an excellent try. This
try must be considered the highlight of the day as many of the
elements applied and practise in training were produced in a game
situation. Colwyn Bay demonstrated great determination throughout
this tough encounter, there is so much to be taken from this
performance today. Well done everyone!!

Colwyn Bay U7s 4 - Glyn
Ceiriog U7s 4
Colwyn Bay welcomed Glyn Ceiriog
to Brookfield Drive on a damp and chilly morning. Glyn Ceiriog
opened the scoring and got a second try after intercepting a stray
pass from Colwyn Bay. The U7s got off to slow start in the first
half and struggled to retain possession. At the start of the second
half Glyn Ceiriog scored quickly from the half way line. After that
the Colwyn Bay players started to find their confidence and showed
much better passing and tagging. Joseph Nicholls ran in two great
tries and a strong run from Cerys Cuddhy culminated in a third
try. Ethan Hogan and Cian Elias made excellent runs forward and
were unlucky not to score. Colwyn Bay ended the match on a high.
Their final try was a superb team effort, with several confident
passes and great support. The ball ended up with Aaron Newman who
crossed the line to draw the match. Mention must also be made of
Sam Trethowen-Haycox, Jennifer Elliot and Gregory Hopkins for their
hard work in defence which saved further scores from Glyn Ceiriog.

Colwyn Bay U7s
2 – Flint U7s
3 (LOST)
Due to illness and holidays,
Colwyn Bay were only unable to field 6 players. All those that did
attend put in a determined effort. From the outset Gage Wilson-Noon
was fired up for the game and was rewarded with an excellent solo
try. The game became very scrappy with a lot of loose ball which
Flint were able to capitalise on. Aaron Newman put in a great
defensive performance. Jennifer Elliot finished of the scoring for
Colwyn Bay with a defence splitting run. Colwyn Bay were unfortunate
to lose today with 2 tries disallowed due to players straying into
offside positioning. A bit more work to ensure players are behind
the ball carrier when receiving passes will reward their strong
running.

Colwyn Bay
U7s 4 – Ruthin U7s
4 (DRAW)
Colwyn Bay dominated the first half of game, building
on from previous games and training. Joseph Nicholas continued to
show some strong running and a good try scoring instinct scoring 3
tries. His best try was a solo run, virtually the full length of the
pitch. Gregory Hopkins was rewarded with a try after displaying some
great all-round play. Man of the match goes to Joseph Nicholas for
his great attack play and Aaron Newman for taking 7 tags and showing
some great positional play. Well played Jo and Aaron for applying
what you learnt in training. Special mention should also go to Ethan
Hogan for some strong running and a disallowed try. Remember to
carry the ball in 2 hands. An excellent performance from a team
growing in confidence.

Colwyn Bay
U7s 1 – Nant
Conwy U7s 3 (LOST)
1ST GAME
This was only Colwyn Bay U7s 2nd
game of rugby and their 1st home game. They came up
against a well organised Nant Conwy team, putting a lot of pressure
on Colwyn Bay. This led to some basic mistakes to give the ball
away. In defence, Colwyn Bay put in a solid performance, notably
from Joseph Nicholas and Aaron Newman. Man of the match goes to
Harri-Glyn Jones for his solo try and overall team performance.
Colwyn Bay
U7s 1 – Nant
Conwy U7s 3 (LOST)
2ND GAME
Very similar to the first game, Colwyn Bay came under
a lot of pressure from the whistle. There was some great tagging
across the team, particularly Sam Trethowen-Haycox, Declan Harding
and Gage Wilson-Noon. Joseph Nicholas showed some determined running
to score Colwyn Bay’s only try. Man of the match goes to Joseph
Nicholas for being a constant threat all game. Good performance from
the whole team. Colwyn Bay U7s are growing in confidence with every
game.

Denbigh U7s 2 - Colwyn Bay
U7s 6
The first game of rugby any
of the team had played and you never would have known. Straight from
the start showed great positioning in defence, pressuring the
opposition, winning the loose ball and successfully turning defence
into attack. Captain for the day, Aaron Newman led from the front
scoring the first try. Joseph Nicholas showed a great turn of speed
to run in 3 tries. The second half saw further tries by Harri-Glyn
Jones and Declan Harding. There was excellent tagging and support
play from all members of the team. Well done U7s, a terrific start.
