Colwyn Bay U9s 4 Rydal Prep U9s 4 |
|
This was a great display of rugby enjoyed by
a good crowd of supporters on both sides.
Colwyn Bay got off to a great start and
showed determination from the outset. They
were keen to put in a good performance
against a Rydal side which included five
regular Colwyn Bay U9 players. The Bay put
Rydal under immediate pressure enabling
Matthew Millband to get an early try. Rydal
soon hit back with two tries before Owen
Phillips showed his pace and ran the length
of the pitch to score. Shortly after
captain Amy Bale took her chance to score
and edged Colwyn Bay ahead at half time.
Rydal came back strongly again in the second
half, but the home side defended and
organised themselves well. This showed how
much they had improved since the two sides
met in January. Charlie Austin in his first
match for Colwyn Bay put on a great
defensive display. Some good play between
him and another of Colwyn Bays latest
recruits, Jo Williams, gained Colwyn Bay
ground from which Matthew Millband was able
to score and draw the match.
Colwyn Bay U9s 3 Rydal Prep U9s 3
The second match was played in the same
competitive but very sporting manner as the
first. All the Colwyn Bay players should be
congratulated for their performance. The
level of tackling continues to improve with
every match played and attacking play
benefits from better support and
communication between players.

Ruthin U9s 2 Colwyn Bay U9s 3
Colwyn Bay travelled to play at Ruthin. In
the first match they put on a great team
display. It was a very closely contested
match, two tries from each side in the first
half and the Bay players put in some
excellent defensive work throughout. It was
on the last touchdown of the match that Adam
Lee-Browne scored to clinch the win for
Colwyn Bay and complete a brilliant personal
performance with a hat trick of tries.

U9s 4 Colwyn Bay U9s 0
In this match, Colwyn Bay failed to play
with the same team effort that won them the
first match. They learnt an important
lesson about how they need to remain focused
and disciplined when things dont go their
way. But the message to take home from the
day was how well they can play when they
work together and put into a match what they
practice in training. |

Colwyn Bay U9s 2 Rhyl U9s 3
On a sunny spring morning Colwyn Bay
welcomed Rhyl U9s. With a strong squad of
14 home players turning out, regular
substitutions were made to give all players
a game. This disrupted the flow during the
first match, which Colwyn Bay narrowly lost
when Rhyl scored in the last minute of the
game.
Colwyn Bay U9s 7 Rhyl U9s 1
This was a great all round team performance
by Colwyn Bay U9s. The team remained
unchanged during the first half enabling the
players to get into the game and build up a
commanding lead with 4 tries. Substitutions
were made at half time. Defensively the
home side were very strong, putting in some
hard tackles when Rhyl were applying
pressure. Accurate passing and good support
play resulted in 5 different players on the
score sheet, reflecting the combined team
effort. It was a very well deserved and
long awaited win for the U9s. |

Colwyn Bay U9s 4 Caernarfon U9s 4
Colwyn Bay U9s 3 Caernarfon U9s 3 |
|
Both closely contested matches ended in
draws when Colwyn Bay U9s played Caernarfon
U9s at home. Four Colwyn Bay players
sportingly volunteered to play with the
Caernarfon team to boost their numbers.
Colwyn Bay players should be proud of their
performance today. It showed how much
theyve come on since the start of the
season when they were heavily defeated by
Caernarfon. Colwyn Bay started more
strongly than in recent matches, which kept
them in the game by half time. The growing
confidence in the team was evident in some
great tackling and the fact that tries were
scored by five different players (Matthew
Millband, Josh Jakeman, Thomas Opie, Will
Stewart and Owen Phillips). Well done too
to Joe Williams who played his first match
for Colwyn Bay. |

Colwyn Bay U9s 2 - Bangor U9s 6
The home side were virtually able to field
two different teams in each half, playing 7
a side against the Bangor U9s. It was a
steady performance from Colwyn Bay, and an
improvement on recent matches, with a try in
each half and some more confident tackling.
Sam Saunders showed his pace and outran the
Bangor defence to score the first try. In
the second half Josh Jakeman put in a good
run before a great pass to Morgan Thomas,
who showed strength and determination to
reach the line for his try
Colwyn Bay U9s 2 Mold U9s 5
In their second match, Colwyn Bay put in one
of their best performances of the season so
far. It was the first time as a team that
everyone had tackled and driven forward.
All the players worked hard for each of the
tries, with Josh Jakeman the player to put
the ball over the line on both occasions. It
was a fantastic all round team performance,
much enjoyed by the home supporters. |

Nant Conwy U9s 11 - Colwyn Bay U9s 1 |
|
Nant Conwy were tough opposition for Colwyn
Bay. It was a game of two halves, with
Colwyn Bay conceding 8 tries in the first
half and scoring none. In the second half,
while Nant remained strong opponents, Colwyn
Bay players found their feet and made Nant
work harder for their three tries. Adam
Lee-Browne was also able to score for the
Bay. |

|
A smaller than usual squad of Colwyn Bay
players made the long trip to Pwllheli to
come up against some tough opposition.
In the first match Colwyn Bay had their all
too familiar sleepy first half during which
they conceded 5 tries. In the second half
there was a more spirited performance,
including a try from Josh Jakeman.
In the second match the Bay got off to a
stronger start but with two players down
injured, and some handling errors creeping
in they never looked like they were going to
pose a strong Pwllheli team too much
trouble. |

Colwyn Bay U9s 6 Bangor U9s 6
Colwyn Bay U9s 6 Bangor U9s 8 |
|
Overall this was a great
performance from Colwyn Bay, who continue to
show progress with every match. Every
single player had something positive to take
from the matches, whether it was great
running, passing, tries or strong tackling.
With a healthy squad size, Colwyn Bay were
able to supply the developing Bangor squad
with a couple of players for each match.
In the first match there
was good communication and organization from
the home side. Colwyn Bay were 2 tries ahead
(5-3) at half time, but in the second half
Bangor came back to strongly to draw the
match. This was due in part to Sam
Saunders, one of the Colwyn Bay squad
playing for Bangor who put in his strongest
performance of the season scoring 4 tries
for the opposition! Mention must also be
given to Thomas Opie for his great
drop-kicking from the start-offs.
In the second match
Colwyn Bay had a strong first half. Again
they were 2 tries ahead at half time (5-3),
thanks to some superb tries from Adam
Lee-Browne and Josh Jakeman. In the second
half the Bay struggled. Mistakes crept in
allowing Bangor to apply continued pressure
and score 5 tries to win the match. Colwyn
Bay need to learn to keep their
concentration and focus throughout a full
match to secure the wins that they are
definitely capable of. |

Colwyn Bay U9s 1 Mold U9s 9
Colwyn Bay U9s 2 Mold U9s 4 |
|
Colwyn Bay faced Mold at
home on a bright, autumn morning. It was the
third time already this season that the two
teams had met, and Mold continued their
winning form.
In the first match, the
Bay suffered from their all too familiar
slow start and many players struggled to get
a grip on the match. Owen Phillips was the
only home player to get on the score sheet
with his second half try.
By the second match,
Colwyn Bay were far more alert and it was a
much improved performance. They showed some
great teamwork, led by Will Stewart and
powerful running from Josh Jakeman was
rewarded by two great tries. As the score
suggested, there was a much stronger
defensive effort from all the Colwyn Bay
players, but most notably from Morgan
Thomas. |

Mold Minis tournament Sunday 17th
October |
|
A squad of 14 Colwyn Bay U9s travelled to
Mold for their first tournament of contact
rugby. They got off to a great start,
winning their first match, a closely fought
contest with Wrexham. They lost some of
their focus in the second match against Mold
and suffered quite a heavy defeat. However,
by the time the third match came round, the
Colwyn Bay players put in a superb
performance. They really put pressure on
Nant Conwy, limiting Nant to a single try in
each half, and Colwyn Bay were unlucky not
to score a try themselves. It was an
impressive team performance, with
considerable improvement from all players,
and rewarding to see them put into practice
what theyve learnt from their coaches in
the training sessions this last month.

Colwyn Bay U9s 1 Ruthin U9s 4 & Colwyn
Bay U9s 1 Ruthin U9s 3 |
|
Colwyn Bay had enough players to field two
teams, so two matches were played against
Ruthin on this warm, sunny morning. To
their credit, the Colwyn Bay players had
worked hard in the last 3 training sessions
and their games against Ruthin showed great
improvement since their previous matches a
fortnight ago. They played more effectively
as a team, demonstrated more confidence to
tackle and increased awareness of their
positions on the field.
In the first match Matthew Millband put in
his best performance of the season so far
and Amy Bale was rewarded for her
considerable determination and scored the
only try of the match for the home side.
In the second match Josh Jakeman and Henry
Noad worked particularly hard in defence,
putting in some great tackles. Owen
Phillips used his speed and agility to
outrun the Ruthin defence from the half way
line to score for Colwyn Bay. |

Llandudno/Bangor U9s 6 Colwyn Bay U9s 4
A combined Bangor and Llandudno team took on
Colwyn Bay on bright sunny morning in
Llandudno. Colwyn Bay got off to a strong
start, with Owen Phillips scoring an early
try. Llandudno got a try back straight
away, but Colwyn Bay continued to apply
pressure in the first half with two further
tries from Adam Lee-Browne. Llandudno had
the stronger second half and went in a lead
which they never relinquished. Colwyn Bay
continued to play some good rugby, and
demonstrated some great tackling,
particularly from Adam Lee-Browne, Josh
Jakeman and Owen Phillips. Credit must also
go to Amy Bale who showed her strength and
determination running forward throughout the
match.
Mold U9s 7 Colwyn Bay U9s 1
In their second match Colwyn Bay struggled
to get into the game. They lacked some of
the focus and determination they had shown
in the first match against Llandudno. There
were some memorable moments, including a try
from Adam Lee-Browne and a great try-saving
tackle from Owen Phillips, but on the whole
the strength and speed of some of the Mold
players was too much for Colwyn Bay.

BANGOR U9's 1 COLWYN BAY
U9's 8 |
|
Colwyn Bay took on a strong Caernarfon team
in their first match of contact rugby,
played in very wet conditions. After a slow
start, Colwyn Bay grew into the game. Adam
Lee-Browne played a great match and was
rewarded with Colwyn Bays only try. The
final result did not reflect the
considerable effort all the Colwyn Bay
players put into the match. During the
second half, the Bay were tackling with
increased confidence and starting to keep
possession when tackled. Well done to Eddie
Farrell and Korben Riddell who played their
first match for Colwyn Bay.
