Colwyn Bay U14's 34 Stafford
U14's 26
A hugely resilient Colwyn bay team, bounced
back from last weeks disappointing loss against Llandudno, to beat touring
side Stafford RUFC in this highly entertaining encounter.
The host's managed to run in 6 tries (2
converted) to Stafford's 4 tries (3 converted) to put some pride back into
the squad.
Colwyn Bay's forwards were dominant in the set
piece and won a majority of Stafford's line outs, with Matt
Phelan controlling the aerial battle. 'Bay's pack were also superior in the
scrum, as they pushed the visiting eight backwards
with impressive regularity, disrupting Stafford's attacking back line
options. However, 'Bay failed to capitalize on ruck ball, as the the
visitors had little resistance in their clearing out duties, this enabled
Stafford to gain much needed field position. 'Bay at times were their own
worse enemies, as the visitors scored tries resulting from back
line handling errors. The hosts went back to basics, putting the ball
through the phases, they managed to close out Stafford's efforts and put
some daylight between the final two scores.
Special mention to the following players:
Lewis Stockton, for his determination in attack. Kieran Fardoe, for his
relentless work rate around the park. Jules Shiel, for his close contact
tackling. Sion Jones, his ball distribution was precise and quick. Jake
Evans, for his line breaks from deep, and finally, Jordan Wilson, his direct
running was strong and decisive.
Callum Mitchell had an outstanding game,
both at inside centre during the first half and as tight head during the
second. As a result, Callum has been named Man Of The Match.

Eryri cup (Semi Final)
Llandudno U14's 32 Colwyn
Bay U14's 22
Home advantage and individual errors were a
decisive factor in the final result of today's encounter.
Llandudno opened their account with a hatrick
of tries within quick succession (one converted) as a result of fragmented
play. Colwyn Bay were patient and began to gain momentum through a series of
controlled phases, which took them into the hosts 22, enabling open side
flanker, Kieran Fardoe to snap up quick ball and score 'Bay's opening try
(unconverted). The visitors continued to find their way back into the game
as winger, Lewis Stockton found enough space out wide to run in a very
difficult corner flag try (unconverted). 'Bay ended the first half with only
a converted try separating the scores, 17-10.
The second half saw 'Bay slowly loose their
grip on the match, as Llandudno struck early to put daylight between the
scores. The game ebbed and flowed as both teams attacked and counter
attacked. 'Bay began to make the yards as their forwards steamed towards the
hosts try line before releasing blindside flanker, Callum Mitchell to score
a much needed try (unconverted). Llandudno's reply was immediate, as loose
tackling allowed the hosts the opportunity to run in two tries (both
unconverted) to put the game beyond Colwyn Bay's reach. A late try
(converted, Patrick Atkinson) put some credibility on the final score, as
Callum Mitchell ran in a conciliation try resulting from a set piece move.

FLINT U14's 12 COLWYN BAY
U14's 28
Colwyn Bay travelled to Flint to face the
hosts in the away leg of this seasons fixtures. From the kick off, Colwyn
Bay were in dominant form as forwards and backs overwhelmed Flints defence,
containing them to within their 22m area for most of the first half. With
the try line in reach, 'Bay knocked on. The resulting scrum was won against
the head as 'Bay's forwards pushed the Flint pack back to secure stolen
ball, scrum half Sion Jones made the ball available to fly half Patrick
Atkinson, who made the half break only to be pulled down 5 meters out,
recycled ball was secured by loose head prop Callum Mitchell, whom powered
through to score Colwyn Bay's first try of the match (converted by Patrick
Atkinson). Flint regrouped, turning defence into attack as their outside
centre made a lateral run before straightening up to exploit a gap in the
visitors defence and score an unconverted try. 'Bay were patient. Controlled
play within the hosts 10m area saw left winger Lewis Stockton break through
the defensive backline to run in a 40m corner flag try (fantastically
converted by Patrick Atkinson). First half ended 5-14.
The second half saw Flint utilize their strong
backline and keep 'Bay on the defensive back foot. With the hosts in
ascendance, but against the run of play, Colwyn Bay managed to turn over
Flint ball and release left winger Alex Trowman to brush aside a desperate
defence, and score the opening try of the half (converted). The visitors
managed to contain Flints efforts, as the hosts began to recycle quality
ball. Again, Flint squandered possession as loose ball was snapped up by
open-side flanker Kieran Fardoe, whom ran in a 30m try (converted).
Flint's reply was immediate and relentless as they pounded Colwyn Bay's
defensive line with an onslaught of forward dominated rugby, which inched
them towards 'Bay's 5m line, an infringement gifted the hosts the
opportunity to pull the scores closer as they managed to squeeze the ball
down at the base of the upright (converted) as a hurried 'Bay defence failed
to counter Flint's final effort.

KIRBY
LONSDALE U 14's 17 COLWYN BAY U 14's 21
Colwyn Bay ended their
tour of the Lake District with a confident display of open running rugby.
Dan Hughes was a revelation at scrum half as he picked holes in the hosts
defence with sniping runs and deftly taken over head chip kicks, which kept
Kirby Lonsdale on the back foot. Controlled distribution from the base of
the scrum, allowed outside half Patrick Atkinson to punish the hosts pack,
as he regularly had them on the retreat with accurately aimed touch finders.
Prop, Callum Mitchell scored
a hatrick of tries (converted, Patrick Atkinson) as his confidence soared
following a serious arm injury which had him side lined for four months.
Kirby Lonsdale were
still in the game as they replied to 'Bay's try count with three of their
own (one converted) to take this encounter into a nail biting final two
minutes. The hosts spun the ball out from the left wing to the far right of
the pitch following a penalty on the visitor’s 5 meter line. A succession of
quick passes, put Kirby Lonsdale to within inches of winning this
match, desperate defence from a combined forward and backline unit, managed
to squeeze the hosts into touch at the corner flag to win this hugely
exciting encounter.
There was
not one weak link in the Colwyn Bay team whom faced a strong and long
established Kirby Lonsdale team. A big 'Thank You' to the boy's who played
today. They donned the Colwyn Bay rugby shirt and were a credit to their
club.

COLWYN BAY U 14's
7 NANT CONWY U 14's 7
This was a third encounter this season between
these 2 teams as Nant travelled to Brookfield Drive in the hope of continuing
their unbeaten run of 2 wins out of 2 over Colwyn Bay. Colwyn Bay kicked off
and contained Nant within their own half for a sustained period as the hosts
countered any attempt Nant made to break free of the early stranglehold, only a
scrambled kick into touch was enough to gain Nant short. Heavy ground
conditions began to suit the visitors style of play as their well drilled
forwards linked up at every opportunity to push Bay back towards the try line,
and eventually score the opening try of the game (converted). Colwyn Bay were
resilient and matched Nant's efforts seeing out the 1st
half within the visitors 22.
The 2nd
half saw Bay grow in confidence as both sets of forwards battled hard in
difficult conditions. The hosts gained ground pushing Nant back to their 22,
with backs and forwards linking up well. A ruck developed gifting Callum
Mitchell the opportunity to secure the ball and crash over to score a well
deserved try (converted, Patrick Atkinson), to tie the game.
This was a huge game for Colwyn Bay, finally
breaking Nant Conwy's dominance of these encounters. As a result all players
are named
'Man of the Match'.

COLWYN BAY U 14's 66
NEWTOWN U 14's 12
A depleted Newtown team travelled to
Brookfield Drive to face a growing Colwyn Bay squad. With strength in-depth,
the hosts were able to borrow the visitors enough players to enable this
fixture to continue.
In view of the disruption within the Newtown
ranks. It was no surprise that Colwyn Bay would take the lead and win this
encounter. However, the size of the winning margin was unexpected. The hosts
put together many exciting passages of play, with outside half Patrick
Atkinson drawing in the Newtown defence before off loading to the attacking
backline. Linking up between forwards and backs flowed well as 'Bay broke
the gain line at every opportunity.
Tries from Zak Hudson (4) Kieran Fardoe (1)
Jake Evans (1) Ashley Jones (2) Jules Sheil (1) Lewis Stockton (2), with
conversions from Patrick Atkinson (5) and Jamie Williams (3), proved that
'Bay possess the ability to score from any position on the park.
Jake Evans had a fantastic match at full back,
his positional awareness, timing, ball handling, ball distribution and line
breaks improve on a weekly basis. As a result, Jake has been named Man of
the Match.

Colwyn Bay U 14's 14 Belvedere
College Dublin U 14's 31
In the words of all football managers " this
was a game of two half's". Belvedere College fielded a physically larger
team for the first half and unsurprisingly ran in 4 tries, 2 converted.
Colwyn Bay challenged well during this period. However, 'Bay found it
difficult to deal with the huge physical difference and ended the first half
24-0.
The second half was an evenly matched contest
as Belvedere fielded a more appropriate team for this age group. Colwyn Bay
faced the restart and immediately put the tourists under pressure as the
forwards played percentage rugby and forced the visitors back at every
opportunity. Equally, 'Bay's backs managed to cross the gain line almost at
will. Belvedere turned defence into attack and against the run of play
managed to score the opening try of the half (converted). Colwyn Bay
regrouped, putting the phases together and attacking deep into the visitors
22, centre Zak Hudson ended an exciting counterattack to score 'Bay's
opening try of the half. The game ebbed and flowed as both teams attempted
to gain territory, 'Bay were patient and slowly began to assert themselves
exploiting gaps in the visitors backline defence as outside half Patrick
Atkinson ran in the last try of the match, which he successfully converted.
Special mention for Lewis Stockton on his
debut for Colwyn Bay, strong in the tackle area, great speed in attack and
lovely ball distribution from the break down.
As for our Man of the Match, this goes to
Cameron Parry. He had an exceptional game. Packing down against some fierce
opposition during the first half and over powering his much larger opposite
number in the scrum.

BRO FFESTINIOG U 14's 7 COLWYN BAY U
14's 31
A confident Colwyn Bay team travelled to Bro Ffestiniog in
the hope of emulating their 51 - 10 home leg victory.
Wet weather hampered Colwyn Bays ball control as they were
plagued by a series of knock-ons during key phases of play. 'Bay managed
turned over a Bro attack in midfield releasing Kieran Fardoe to run in the
visitor's opening try of the game which he also converted. Bro replied with
a try as they squeezed through Bay's defence to bring the scores level. The
visitors dominated territory but failed to capitalise on ball possession,
1st half ended 7 -7.
Colwyn Bay were more positive during the 2nd half and managed
to make a series of line breaks from deep, with fullback Jake Evans
spearheading 'Bays attacking back line. Alex Trowman created space,
breaking weak defence to run in Colwyn Bay's 1st try of the 2nd half
(unconverted). The hosts failed to break free of the visitors stranglehold
as they ran in a further 3 tries with Jules Sheil, Zak Hudson and Patrick
Atkinson adding their names to the scorecard (2 converted, Patrick
Atkinson).
Special mention to the following players: Jules Sheil,
Cameron Parry, Jordan Wilson and Dan Hughes, all of whom played strong
direct rugby and contributed towards Colwyn Bay's 1st win of the year, as a
result all 4 players have been named 'Man of the Match'.

Colwyn Bay Under 14's
14 Rhyl & District Under 14's 15
Bad weather forced Bay and Rhyl into this
unscheduled encounter as both teams faced cancellations from each of their
scheduled opponents.
Colwyn Bay controlled the opening passages of
play, as they pushed Rhyl back to their 22 metre area, creating a platform
from ruck ball releasing new centre partnership, Zak Hudson and Alex Trowman
at the Rhyl back line.
Slick ball handling and direct running gifted
outside centre Zak Hudson the opening try (converted by Patrick
Atkinson). Colwyn Bay remained cohesive and adapted to Rhyl's forward
orientated game. The hosts pushed Rhyl back as strong rucking and
mauling put 'Bay on the front foot, as inside centre Alex Trowman brushed
the visitors defence aside as he crossed the line to score Bays 2nd try
(converted). Rhyl regrouped, making a half break on 'Bays 10 metre line,
space was created, allowing the visitors to squeeze in a try on the tight
right (unconverted). First half ended 14 - 5.
Colwyn Bay continued to assert themselves
during the 2nd half, scoring the opening try, as Kieran Fardoe crossed the
line only to discover that his foot was adjudged in touch. With this
reprieve Rhyl battled in midfield, a speculative kick bounced kindly for a
Rhyl chasing winger to control and score the only try of the 2nd half
(converted). Colwyn Bay were still leading with 5 minutes remaining,
unfortunately the hosts infringed on their 22, gifting Rhyl a penalty in
front of the posts and a guaranteed 3 points, taking them into a 1 point
match running lead.
Repositioning of some the Colwyn Bay players
paid dividends as they settled well into their new positions especially
flanker Matty Heywood and inside centre Alex Trowman. Both excelled in
their new roles and as a result have been named 'Man of the Match'.

Nant Conwy Under 14's 22
Colwyn Bay Under 14's 7
This hastily arranged fixture saw 'Bay back on
the road as guests of Nant Conwy RFC. Colwyn Bay kicked off and managed to
contain Nant within their half. Excellent forward play kept the hosts on the
back foot. Eventually Nant cleared with a speculative kick to mid field,
Jamie Williams secured loose ball, finding support, the ball was shipped out
wide to Zak Hudson. With work still to do, the centre beat a hurried defence
to touch down under the sticks and score 'Bay's only try of the match
(converted, Patrick Atkinson). Nant's reply was immediate. Forwards and
backs linked up with slick ball handling to cross the white wash with a
unconverted try. Nant increased their tally with two additional try's (one
converted) as indecision cost 'Bay valuable possession and territory. First
half ended 17-7.
Colwyn Bay increased their ball possession
during the second half, and found themselves within scoring opportunity on
several occasions. Again, indecision during key stages allowed Nant the
chance to clear their line. 'Bay regrouped, as their forwards powered to
within inches of the hosts try line. Nant Conwy managed to turn
over possession and fire the ball down field. Lack of support allowed their
running backs to secure the ball and score the only try of the second half
(unconverted). Game ended 22-7.
The score line is not a fair reflection of the
game. 'Bay's ball possession, line outs, rucks and mauls were on a par with
Nant. Yards gained from our back line and loose forwards exceeded that of
the hosts.
A special mention to the following players.
Kieran Fardoe, for his work rate both in attack and defence. Jules Shiels, his
forward work in the tight was strong and decisive. Cameron Parry, always
made the hard yards. Matt Phelan, solid in attack and defence. Matt Scott,
with limited match time, still managed to make an impact with good tackling.
Zak Hudson, his surging sniping runs rang alarm bell's in the Nant Conwy
defence. Sion Jones, his ball distribution from the base of the scrum/ruck
was direct and well timed. Rob Hughes, huge effort in attack and at the
breakdown.
A solid performance from each of the Colwyn
Bay players. As a result, all the under 14's have been named Man Of The
Match.

Denbigh U 14's 49 Colwyn Bay U
14's 26
Colwyn Bay were back on the road as they
travelled into the heart of the Vale Of Clwyd,
to face host club Denbigh in this opening
match of the new year.
Denbigh dominated most of the first half, with
6 try's and 1 conversion. Colwyn Bay kept composure and interrupted the
hosts scoring spree as Kieran Fardoe broke free of Denbigh's attacking line
on 'Bay's 22m, before being brought down on the host 10m. Denbigh infringed
in the ruck allowing Patrick Atkinson to take a tap penalty and run in
'Bay's first try of the match unopposed, with a 40m run in under the posts
(unconverted). Again, 'Bay absorbed an onslaught of running, rucking rugby
as Denbigh applied pressure from the restart, with the visitors try line in
scope, 'Bay managed to turn over ball and split the hosts defence with
Matthew Heywood and Patrick Atkinson linking up in mid field before spinning
the ball out wide to gift Kieran Fardoe a 50m run in try (converted, Patrick
Atkinson). First half ended 32-12.
Colwyn Bay restarted and forced Denbigh into
playing panic rugby on their 5m line. Strong rucking from 'Bay's forwards
enabled their backs to put the ball through the hands with Rob
Hughes scoring a well worked try (converted). Denbigh countered, replying
with a touch line try (unconverted). 'Bay regrouped and were rewarded with a
Zak Hudson breakaway try (converted). However, the match was beyond Colwyn
Bay as Denbigh ran in two late try's (one converted) to secure the hosts
winning margin.
All of the Colwyn Bay player's contributed to
this exciting encounter, with the following players in contention for Man Of
The Match....
Adam Michelmore, his ball retention, angles of
attack and ball distribution were inspired. Jordan Wilson, his work 'round
the fringes of the rucks and ball carrying kept Colwyn Bay on the front
foot, followed with good ball presentation at the breakdown. However, for
his relentless work rate both in defence and attack, flanker, Kieran Fardoe
has been named Man Of The Match.

COLWYN BAY U14's 51 BRO
FFESTINIOG 10
A try fest, inspired by open running rugby,
took Colwyn Bay into unchartered territory as the 50 point mark rapidly
approached. Try's from Kieran Fardoe, Alex Trowman x 2, Ashley Jones, Sion
Jones, Zak Hudson and Dan Hughes, plus a further 12 points from the boot of
Patrick Atkinson added to 'Bays 46 point first half tally.
Colwyn Bay eased off the pressure, allowing
Bro the opportunity to play an attacking style of rugby which took them over
the try line line to score the opening try of the second half, and to also
gain themselves some credibility during this one sided encounter. 'Bay were
patient, putting the ball though the phases, they found themselves within
the visitors 22. Loose ball from a ruck gifted Cameron Parry his debut try
and 'Bay's only try of the half.
Colwyn Bay controlled this encounter from the
outset. Contributions from Jules Shiel's, Henry Salisbury and Ieuan Jones
kept ' Bay on the front foot. Alex Trowman raised his game with surging
line breaks into the heart of the visitors defence. As a result, Alex has
been named Man Of The Match.

Colwyn Bay U 14/15 0 Rougemont U 14/15 12
This first flood- lit fixture of the season, saw a combined under 14's
and 15's team face South Walian touring school team Rougemont, in this
hugely entertaining evening encounter.
The visitors kicked off and immediately found themselves under pressure
as 'Bay totally controlled all aspects of the first half. Only the try
line eluded Colwyn Bay's efforts as Rougemont absorbed an incredible
onslaught of attacking rugby. The hosts hammered the visiting teams
stead fast defensive line and found themselves within inches of scoring
on several occasions, as Rougemont scrambled to close out 'Bay's heroic
attempts to turn pressure into points. Winning two scrumages against the
head, within the Rougemont 10 metre area, 'Bay failed to capitalise on
stolen ball possession, as the South Walians snuffed out any
attempt the hosts had of making the decisive yards towards the their
try line. Rougemont finally cleared and managed to see out the last
minutes of the first half within the hosts 10 metre area.
The second half saw Rougemont in the ascendancy as they began to break
free of 'Bay's grip. Loose play in mid-field allowed the tourers to
punch holes in the hosts defence, enabling them to gain enough ground to
create 2nd phase ball to score the first try of the game
(unconverted). The 'Bay replied with slick counter attacks, but failed
to breach Rougemont's highly organised defence. A high up and under into
the flood lights gifted the visitors the chance to secure a lucky bounce
and score their second try (converted). Colwyn Bay began to build
momentum as forward and backs pushed Rougemont towards their 5 metre
line. It was at this point, during a maul, that Gareth Salisbury
sustained a leg injury forcing the match to be cut short as medical
attention was needed.
The score line did not reflect the superior style of rugby Colwyn Bay
produced during this encounter, especially their dominance of the first
half. A good result for 'Bay as they faced an established team with
plenty of match-time experience at this age grade.

COLWYN BAY U14's 27
RHYL U14's 19
Heavy showers and strong winds dictated the
style of game both teams were to adopt. Colwyn Bay won the toss and elected
to face into the wind. 'Bay coped well with the elements and the forwards
began to build momentum as they headed for Rhyl's 22, a maul developed,
which the visitors managed to collapse, however 'Bay were still in control.
Quick ball from the base of the ruck was spun out to Alex Trowman, who
managed to squeeze through flat defence to score the hosts opening try
(unconverted). Rhyl restarted and put 'Bay on the back foot as they secured
loose ball. Hurried defence and missed tackles gifted Rhyl a try scoring
certainty as the visitors managed to pull ahead with a converted try. Colwyn
Bay regrouped. Keeping ball in hand and going through the phases. The hosts
found themselves in the Rhyl 22 metre area. Again, maul turned into ruck as
Rhyl attempted to slow 'Bay's progress. Callum Mitchell won possession and
found the try line with a lovely angled run (unconverted). Colwyn Bay
secured the ball from the restart. Open play within 'Bay's 10 metre area
enabled Zak Hudson to cut through Rhyl's defence to run in the last try of
the half. Colwyn Bay ended the first half with a 15-7 lead.
The second half saw Colwyn Bay play for
territory as they pushed Rhyl back towards their try line. With pressure
mounting, the visitors cleared the ball into touch. 'Bay won the resulting
line out and made the hard yards towards the Rhyl try line. A ruck 7 metres
out, gave Callum Mitchell the opportunity to crash through Rhyl's defence to
score a well worked try (converted by Patrick Atkinson). Rhyl began to claw
their way back into the game as Colwyn Bay found themselves down to 14
players following a sin binning for a high tackle. The visitors exploited
'Bay's stretched defence to sneak in a converted try. Rhyl continued to
apply the pressure as 'Bay retreated to their 22 metre area. Sloppy defence
and poor communication gifted Rhyl a way back into the game as they scored
their second try of the half (unconverted). With only 3 points separating
the teams, 'Bay looked like they were going to hand the game to the
visitors. The hosts found themselves defending as Rhyl worked the ball
towards the home teams try line. A Rhyl knock on handed the hosts a chance
to clear their line and to put the ball down into the visitors 10 metre
area. 'Bay reclaimed the ball with Matty Heywood pushing Rhyl further back
with a lovely aimed touch finder. Colwyn Bay contended the line out and
slowed Rhyl's defensive options. With the clock counting down. 'Bay put
pressure on the visitors efforts to clear their line and managed to turn
over ball, releasing Callum Mitchell to run in the final try of the match
(unconverted).
This encounter ebbed and flowed as both
closely matched teams fought for supremacy. Good line out work from Colwyn
Bay kept the boy's going forward as Dan and Rob Hughes battled hard with the
elements and the opposition to secure difficult line out ball. For this
reason, both boy's have been named "Man Of The Match".

Llangefni U14's 41
Colwyn Bay U14's 34
For the fourth time this season, Colwyn
Bay were back on the road as they headed for Anglesey to face Llangefni in
what we considered to be the Bench Mark of Colwyn Bay's rugby
development. With the memory of last seasons humiliating 68 - 0 drubbing
still fresh in the minds of players and coaching staff, now was the time the
redress the balance.
'Bay took the kick off and immediately put the
Islanders under pressure, as Callum Mitchell ran in the first try of the
game (unconverted). The visitors controlled the ball from the restart and
turned defence into attack as Llangefni were still rocking from 'Bay's
opening onslaught. Clean rucking and fast ball distribution pushed the hosts
back to their 5 metre area. Quick handling and direct running put Ashley
Jones on the score board as he ran in 'Bay's second try (unconverted).
Llangefni regrouped, with home advantage always being a factor. The hosts
managed to turn a 10 point deficit into a 14 point first half lead as Colwyn
Bay failed to contain Llangefni's running backs. Unforced errors allowed the
Islanders a route back into the game.
The second half opened with Colwyn Bay in the
ascendancy. Powerful forward play put 'Bay within 7 points of Llangefni as
Callum Mitchell touched down under the sticks to score 'Bays third try
(converted by Patrick Atkinson). The hosts replied with two tries (one
converted) in quick succession, as the visitors began to play panic rugby
within their own try area. With the game slowly slipping away, 'Bay's reply
was instant. A scrummage against the head put Llangefni on the back foot as
Colwyn Bay's dominant forwards put the hosts defence under immense pressure.
Adam Michelmore secured loose ball to score the visitors a much needed try
(unconverted). With the final whistle approaching. 'Bay began to lose
formation, gifting the Islanders a simple run in try (unconverted). The
final seven minutes of the match approached. 'Bay secured the restart and
headed towards the hosts try line. A succession of controlled phases forced
Llangefni to infringe. A quickly taken tap penalty by Patrick Atkinson was
shipped on to Callum Mitchell who ran though weak defence to score a
desperately needed try (unconverted). Colwyn Bay secured the restart and
began to stretch the home teams back line. With a maturity, the visitors
controlled the game. Interplay between the forwards and backs began to build
as 'Bay crashed over the Islanders try line with a Callum Mitchell try
(converted).
This was a huge game for Colwyn bay. With only
a converted try between them. The squad of twenty players all displayed the
ability to play open attacking rugby. Forwards and backs linked up well to
put this game to within a possible victory. As a result, all Colwyn Bay's
players have been named Man Of The Match

BANGOR U 14's 0 COLWYN BAY U
14's 36
Following a well observed 1 minute silence on
this Remembrance Sunday. Colwyn Bay set about on their total dominance of
this encounter. 'Bay won the toss and elected to face the wind and rain.
Confused defence allowed Callum Mitchell to score an opportunist try within
the first minute, as he kicked the ball away from the hands of the
fragmented Bangor pack to touch down the only try of the half (converted by
Kieran Fardoe). Bangor found it difficult gaining ground beyond the hosts 10
metre line as 'Bay snuffed out any attempt the hosts had of equalising the
scores. The visitors ended the first half with a slender but well defended 7
- 0 lead.
With the wind on their backs, the second half
was all Colwyn Bay's. Rucking/ mauling, passing running rugby, angles of
attack and defence were all at a high standard as 'Bay stepped up another
level to totally close out Bangor. The visitors never lost formation as the
forwards burst through rushed defence allowing Adam Mitchelmore to score the
first try of the half (converted by Kieran Fardoe). Colwyn Bay secured ball
from the restart. Putting the phases together, 'Bay managed to cross the
white wash with a break away try by Kieran Fardoe (which he successfully
converted) to score the first of his hatrick of tries. This was interspersed
by a Callum Mitchell try (unconverted).
A fantastic result for Colwyn Bay as they
secured their third successive win. A special mention to the following
players; Jordan Wilson for his line out work and Hooking duties,
Jamie Williams for his inspired counter
attacking and ball distribution, Ashley Jones for his ball distribution and
vision. A big thank you to Bill Harpum (apologies if surname is mispelt) for
stepping up from the under 13's team to being a contributing member of this
winning team.
As for Man Of The Match. There were two
players whom stood out during today's match, Kieran Fardoe and Jamie
Williams. However, the decision made on this

Flint Under 14's 22
This was Colwyn Bay's first home game of the
season as they welcomed Flint to Brookfield Drive on this glorious
spring-like day. Both teams attempted to play open running rugby,
but scrappy play in mid- field often lead scrumages, free-kicks and
penalties being awarded. Colwyn Bay soon settled into the game and found
themselves attacking the visitors 22 metre line. Quick ball from a resulting
ruck allowed Callum Mitchell to peel off and score the first of his 5 tries
(unconverted). Colwyn Bay failed to hold onto this slim lead as Flint
broke through weak tackling to equalise the scores (unconverted). The hosts
began to assert pressure as the visitors were driven back to their 5 metre
line, again, Callum Mitchell picked up loose ball to score 'Bays second try
(converted by Patrick Atkinson). Typically, 'Bay eased off the pressure
during the mid to latter part of the first half allowing Flint to run in 2
tries (one converted) to put them into a 12 - 17 first half lead.
The second half almost mirrored the events of
the first half, with both teams conceding territory through indiscipline.
Again, 'Bay were the first to settle into the game. Momentum began to build
as Kieran Fardoe turned defence into attack, with a series of Turn Over Ball
to gift the back line the opportunity to run at Flints hurried defence.
Sniping run from Jamie Williams and crash ball from Matty Heywood, kept the
visitors on the back foot as 'Bay headed towards the beckoning try line. A
slick pass from Sion Jones opened up space for Callum Mitchell to run in his
3rd try (converted). Callum went on to score two further tries (converted by
Patrick) to put the home team into a match winning lead. Flint managed to
pull the final score closer with a conciliation try (unconverted).
This is a fantastic result for the Under 14's
as they battled hard against a "street wise" and intimidating Flint team.
Callum Mitchell had a fantastic match and is
therefore today's Man Of The Match.

Rhyl Under 14's 22 Colwyn Bay Under
14's 28
Colwyn Bay made the journey to Rhuddlan to
face Rhyl & District at The Waen in this hastily arranged fixture. Rhyl
took the kick-off and used the "downhill advantage" to put Bay under
pressure from the start. Colwyn Bay defended well but found it
difficult to slow momentum created by Rhyl quick ball, earning the hosts
the opening converted try of the game. Colwyn Bay restarted and found
themselves in the ascendancy as the ball bounced into touch within the
Rhyl 5 metre area, Bay secured possession from the lineout gifting
Callum Mitchell a simple run in try (converted, Patrick Atkinson).
Colwyn Bay's equalising try was short lived as Rhyl applied pressure and
pinned Bay on their 5 metre line. The host's sustained attack was
equally matched by Bay's tireless defending. Again momentum was the
decisive factor as Rhyl found a gap and crashed through on the tight
right to score an unconverted try. Colwyn Bay secured the restart but
found themselves defending as Rhyl won turn over ball and quickly put
the phases together to earn another unconverted try. Colwyn Bay
regrouped, finding space, Patrick Atkinson split Rhyl's midfield defence
to score and convert the last points of the half. First half ended 17 -
14.
The second half saw Colwyn Bay open up as
they made the most of the slopping pitch. Rhyl found themselves
defending as 'Bay controlled the game from within the host's 10 metre
area. A probing kick into the Rhyl 22 was scrambled away gaining Bay
good field position. Colwyn Bay won the resulting lineout. A maul
developed, Callum Mitchell peeled off to score the first try of the
second half (converted, Patrick Atkinson). Rhyl attempted to break free
of 'Bay's strangle hold. However, 'Bay's fierce tackling knocked Rhyl
back to their 22 as the visitors put together phases of play which
pushed the hosts further back to their try line as Callum Mitchell
punched his way through the Rhyl defence to put Colwyn Bay into a
healthy lead (converted). Rhyl managed to score a consolation try as
good ball was quickly put through the hands to find their winger with
space to run in the last try of the match (unconverted).
A fantastic result for Colwyn Bay as they
came from behind to win this difficult encounter. As a consequence it
was a hard decision to nominate a Man Of The Match as it was a team
effort. Therefore, all team members have been awarded the title.
A special mention is made to the
following; Kieran Fardoe, Callum Mitchell, Adam Michelmore, Jordan
Wilson, Tom Jones, Matty Heywood, Patrick Atkinson and Ieuan Jones for
their commitment during this encounter.

Newtown Under 14's 24 Colwyn Bay Under 14's 21
Only two games into the season and this could quite easily be
considered "Match Of The Season".
From start to finish, this encounter was played at high
pace, with both teams attacking and counter attacking. 'Bay conceded a
penalty on their 5 metre line which resulted in Newtown's opening try
(unconverted). The visitors applied pressure with the forwards creating
opportunities for the backs. Colwyn Bay swept into the hosts 22 metre area
but managed to squander possession as Newtown made the most of turn over
ball and exploited a gap on the left wing to score a run in try
(unconverted). Colwyn Bay responded, dominating the last third of the first
half. Superb ball handling from a set piece within the hosts half, led to
Tristan Rowling's making the hard yards before linking up with Harvey Davies
to score 'Bay's opening try, converted by Patrick Atkinson. The first half
ended 10-7.
Colwyn Bay opened the second half and managed to contain
Newtown within their 10 metre area. The hosts won possession but were pushed
back towards their 22 which resulted in Newtown conceding a line out. One
touch from the set piece enabled Callum Mitchell to crash through the
Newtown defence to put Colwyn Bay into the lead (converted Patrick
Atkinson). Newtown battled hard and were rewarded with excellent field
possession which ended in a converted try. Again 'Bay restarted and
immediately put Newtown under pressure. Callum Mitchell secured ball
possession and headed towards the home teams try line before being taken
down. A ruck ensued, quick ball from scrum half Sion Jones enabled Kieran
Fardoe to score 'Bay's third try (converted) to put the visitors into the
lead. Colwyn Bay regained possession from the restart and kicked the ball
down to within the opponents 22. Newtown countered with an up and under,
Colwyn Bay knocked on and Newtown played the advantage to run in the winning
try (converted).
This was a fantastic improvement by all team members. Special
mention to Gareth Salisbury on a stunning debut. Congratulations to Kieran
Fardoe and Patrick Atkinson for jointly being awarded Man Of The Match.

Nant Conwy U14's
61 Colwyn Bay U14's 0
This was a humberling start
to Colwyn Bay's new season as Nant ran in four tries (one converted) to put
the game beyond the visitors within the first half. Colwyn Bay battled on,
but found themselves on the back foot as Nant's rush defence caused Bay to
squander possession. This resulted in Bay conceding seven tries with two
converted.
The hosts playmakers were
easily identified, yet the visitors failed to capitalise. Allowing Nant's
forwards to create phases of play which enabled their back line to cross the
white wash almost at will. Thomas Jones raised his game. As a result has
been awarded Man Of The Match. Dda Iawn Tom.
