Beerfest 2007
Whilst the rest of UK suffered storm warnings and torrential
rain , Colwyn Bay Rugby Club's Brookfield Drive grounds saw a weekend of good
cheer and excellent sport as they played host to the North Wales Beer Festival
and 2 days of excellent rugby in glorious conditions.
Saturday's seven a side tournament, featuring 9 teams from as
far afield as Newport and Macclesfield was hard fought with several hours of
high class rugby action resulting in a Llandudno vs Colwyn Bay final with the
Great Orme Brewery Shield eventually going to Llandudno by 36 - 29.
The laid back atmosphere of the pitch side Beer Festival
complemented perfectly the action on the field with beer fanatics from as far
away as Essex changing their holiday plans to attend alongside members of more
local CAMRA Branches , all of whom rated the beer selections as excellent and
enjoyed the accompanying Hog roast and live music from local band Road kill.
Featuring a wide range of real ales from all the North Wales
breweries with the most popular beer a close run thing between Purple Moose
Brewery's "Dark Side of the Moose " from Porthmadog , Conwy Brewery 's "Honey
Fayre" and The Great Orme Brewery's "Three Feathers" .
Sunday saw further rugby action when Brookfield Drive welcomed
the North Wales Barbarians , a charity veterans ( over 35 ) side from North
East Wales . The Spirit of Rugby was alive and well as a scratch veteran's
team from the Bay put up a plucky defence against a more practiced and
cohesive Barbarian's side who came out eventual winners 44 points to the Bay's
7. The match raised over £350 which will be donated to the Bryan 'Yogi' Davies
fund (

following his tragic accident . All the Best from the boys at the Bay ,
Brian.
Funds were also raised in support of ' Bay Junior Section Coach
Ray Caldwell and U16 International player Ian Marshall as they make the long
trip to Serbia to represent Wales as part of a Celtic team competing
in the European Federation Rugby League Championship in Belgrade . Good Luck
lads.
