David Edwards - Membership Secretary

My first club was Ormskirk RFC in Lancashire. I played rugby for the HM Forces in the UK and the Far East. My greatest claim to rugby fame occurred whilst I was serving in the Far East playing for the Services Welsh Representative XV against New Zealand Services, which we won 12 – 11

I returned to Ormskirk RFC after leaving full time military service but due to injuries I only played for two seasons. I was appointed Rugby Coach at Edge Hill College Ormskirk in 1974, where we beat Del a Salle College, Manchester for the first time in Edge Hill College history

In 1976 I became Club Coach at Hightown RFC and played for the 1^st and 2^nd XVs 

I moved to Colwyn Bay in 1980 where I played a couple of 1^st XV games until it became obvious that injuries and age prevented any further participation at this level. I helped coach the club’s juniors for two years and then began playing veterans rugby. This lasted five years during which time I had the privilege of playing rugby with some of the best players I had ever met. My claim to fame at Colwyn Bay was tackling J P R Williams during a Colwyn Bay vets match against London Welsh vets

I made one or two twenty minute guest appearances in the 2^nd XV so I could boast that I had played rugby in the same team as my son Gareth. At 41, I finished playing in 1985 

Committee
Over the past 20 years I have served on Colwyn Bay committees in a number of roles and am currently Membership Secretary. 

Family
Married to Christine. One son Gareth, married to Danielle. They have one daughter, our grandchild, Lauryn. We have just had an addition to the family, a Grandson, Gethin. Born 1 Sep 09
