David Edwards - Membership Secretary ![]() My first club was Ormskirk RFC in Lancashire. I played rugby for the HM Forces in the UK and the Far East. My greatest claim to rugby fame occurred whilst I was serving in the Far East playing for the Services Welsh Representative XV against New Zealand Services, which we won 12 – 11 I returned to Ormskirk RFC after leaving full time military service but due to injuries I only played for two seasons. I was appointed Rugby Coach at Edge Hill College Ormskirk in 1974, where we beat Del a Salle College, Manchester for the first time in Edge Hill College history In 1976 I became Club Coach at Hightown RFC and
played for the 1st and 2nd XVs I moved to Colwyn Bay in 1980 where I played a
couple of 1st XV games until it became obvious that injuries and age
prevented any further participation at this level. I helped coach the club’s
juniors for two years and then began playing veterans rugby. This lasted five
years during which time I had the privilege of playing rugby with some of the
best players I had ever met. My claim to fame at Colwyn Bay was tackling J P R
Williams during a Colwyn Bay vets match against London Welsh vets I made one or two twenty minute guest appearances in the 2nd XV so I could boast that I had played rugby in the same team as my son Gareth. At 41, I finished playing in 1985 Committee Family
