It is with regret that I have to inform club members that one of past members and club sponsor, Malcolm Gilkerson past away earlier today. Malcolm had been awaiting surgery when it was discovered that he had cancer of the pancreas. Malcolm and his family were keen supporters of the club. The cabinet that holds the junior trophies was presented to the club by Malcolm when his son, Barry, died of Leukaemia at the age of 13.  Malcolm was a fairly good centre in his day and attended a number of the annual golf tournaments. He also contributed towards the Paul Jones Memorial Fund at one of our fund raising events. I am sure you will join us in passing on our sympathy to Malcolm's wife Elaine and to his children Damian & Kelly. Funeral arrangements will be posted once the information becomes available.

Players Dinner - Rugby League

Thanks to all who attended the players dinner for giving our guest speakers a warm welcome. Both Michael & Tony enjoyed themselves, especially the involvement with the players after the meal. They said they would like to visit us during the season to watch one of our matches and have a couple of beers with the friends they made on Friday. We will definitely hold them to that. In the meantime it might be an idea for us to support them and the Crusaders at Wrexham. There is a great opportunity to do this on 13 June. Crusaders have invited CBRFC to join in a pre match 9's exhibition competition especially designed for non-rugby league players learning the game. After the event, those who participate will be given tickets to watch the Crusaders v Bradford Bulls match. To become involved, come to the club on Wednesday evening where Ray Caldwell will coach you in the finer arts of Rugby League. This is a great opportunity to play rugby in a professional environment. Come and join us, it will a great day out and you may even be encouraged to play more Rugby League throughout the summer.

Rugby League at CBRFC

We have started Rugby League Coaching on Wednesday evenings. We have been getting 15 plus junior club members along to these sessions and they are going very well. What we now need are some senior players to join us. To offer some encouragement, Super League Crusaders, based at Wrexham, has invited us to a festival of rugby league at the Racecourse ground on 12 June 2010. The idea of this event to to allow teams who are new to rugby league to play in front of a Super League audience. The event is being held before the Crusaders v Bradford match and all participants will have free entry to the game. All players aged 17 or over are eligible to play at the festival. So, come and join Ray and the lads next Wednesday and look forward to a good weekend on 12 June.

John and Penny would like to say many , many ‘thank yous’ to all the Junior Section members who contributed to the most generous gifts presented to us at last night’s Junior Section AGM .

It has been an uplifting and fulfilling journey being part of such a vibrant and positive Junior Section and we are happy that there is a good stream of highly competent, enthusiastic people to take it on to greater things. The future of the club looks bright.

We are not leaving but , having made some ground and passed the ball successfully , returning to the touchline for a breather and wish Craig , Andy and all the other Coaches and Managers the very best for next season.

We’d like to reiterate our thanks to the myriad volunteers who give so much to the club for their support over the last few years .To those who are not currently involved, you are missing a great experience ; don’t wait to be asked, call Andy now and ask how you can help , you won’t regret it.

We look forward to seeing everyone next season,  have a great summer break ,

Regards to all

Well done to the CBRFC Evening league Cricket Team who won at home (Brackley Avenue) against Fugro Robinson  by 7 wickets – great innings by Dan Parry and Brian Phillips who top scored in batting and bowling. Many thanks to all our new players who turned up on a chilly, but thankfully dry, evening to support the Rugby Club it really is very much appreciated.  Next game is at home (Brackley Avenue) next Tuesday (11th May) against Eirias High School which is usually a lively game! please come and support if you can.

Rugby League at Colwyn Bay Rugby Club

This summer we are reviving Conwy Celts Rugby League Club as an integral part of CBRFC. Now that we have a Super League Club in North Wales, we hope that more RU clubs will take up the game during the Rugby Union closed season. Playing Rugby League will improve your passing and tackling skills and help you to maintain a high level of fitness. This will prepare you for the 2010/11 Rugby Union season. The Crusaders have committed to sending coaching and playing representatives to all RU clubs that register with Wales Rugby League. This visit will be arranged once we establish the interest of players at CBRFC. Also, once we have sufficient players, suitable trained, we have been invited to put on pre match exhibition game before one of Crusaders Super League fixtures at Wrexham Racecourse Ground. Conwy Celts have begun training on Wednesday evenings at 7.00 p.m. Now that the RU season is coming to an end, we would like to see more players joining these sessions. Players from other RU clubs in Conwy County are also invited to join us. So, come along, its great fun and there is a lot to look forward to during the summer.

Well done again 1st XV against Llangefni on Saturday. It wasn't the prettiest game of rugby to watch, but the result was a fair outcome. Over the past few weeks you have proven that you are as good as any team in Division 1 North. Bro Ffestiniog next Saturday, Pwllheli on the 24 April and Caernarfon to be rearranged. On top of that the Semi Final Plate at Bala on 17 April then the final. There is still a lot of rugby to be played, and the mood you guys have been in over the past few weeks, that means a lot of winning to be done. Keep it up. As a matter of interest, there appeared to be more Bay supporters at Llangefni on Saturday than home supporters. Let us also keep up the good work in supporting our team, home and away.

The games to be played at Colwyn Bay RFC on 31st March ( 7:30 KO ) and Eirias Parc on 2nd April ( Good Friday, 12:00 KO), are to act as warm-up games for the Canadians, who are staying at Rydal school ,prior to their participation in an International Tournament being held at Wellington College, Berkshire the following week.
They will also be of massive benefit to the RGC 1404 Under 17 players and coaches as they prepare for both their remaining fixtures in the RAF Trophy against Cheshire and Lancashire and more long-term for this autumns regional age-grade championship.

Support for CBRFC 1st XV

We have seven 1st XV league games to play before the end of the 2009/10 season. It is vital that we win at least three of these matches. The players are encouraged by support from the touchline.  Enthusiastic support enhances the players’ will to win. Therefore, the more people on the touchline offering their support, the better chance the team has of winning these very important fixtures.

Another Daft Contest for Christmas 2009 - The Interesting Tie Contest

You will remember last Christmas we had an Interesting Pullover Contest at the last 1st XV home fixture before the holiday. This event raised £100.00 for Alder Hey Children's Hospital. After great deliberation and discussion we have decide to run a similar event this year.
The last 1st XV home fixture before Christmas is Pwllheli on 5 December 2009. As this is short notice we have decide to make the contest simpler to enter. Rather that search high and low for a pullover, this year all you need to enter is an Interesting Tie. There will be no fee for entering the contest, but we would ask every competitor to donate at least £1.00 to the club's 2009 - 10 charity, Wales Air Ambulance Service. Prizes will be bottles of booze and other festive items. These will be donated by club members. The contest will be judged by the Pwllheli team captain two members of his team.
Please make every effort to take part. If you have difficulty in finding an Interesting Tie, try the charity shops.
We look forward to see how far your imaginations can stretch.

Re Geoff's All Black's Move

Except for the referee not picking up the "not straight" line out through in, it was a brilliant move. A great coaching ploy. So long as you have highly skilful, superbly fit players, who know what each other is doing and is going to do and practice the move until it works like clockwork. (Having world class rugby players may also help). Taking this into consideration, you could teach it to anyone.

All Members

We all know it is a "credit crunch" but as a club we are always trying to bring additional funding into the club to meet our ever increasing costs. I am asking all members who are in Business whether they are able to help out with an advertising board around the 1st pitch which will bring in additional income or if you know a Business that might help.(£250/£400) A few ideas to bring additional funding is the use of a Lottery Bonus Ball, this brings in approx £1k per annum one already run by Brian with most of the old f---s on board. Would anyone else like to start another? The Seahorse Club which although still in being has not been pushed for a number of years although 6 monthly draws are made with monthly Prices of £100,£50 & £25 Can we get more members on board to date we have just 75 members in the club, Mandy has already sold addl 8/10 if we could increase to say 100/120 members this would further increase our funds and give more members the opportunity to win. Anyone interested have a word with Mandy, Pete or myself we will all gladly take £10 from u which is the annual payment. I apologise before hand if I start pestering u to become a Seahorse Member but as previously said costs are on the increase.

Thanks for your time in reading this

I read with interest the history of Colwyn bay RUFC. I was one of the founder players of the club in ,if my memory is right  1954.  I had attended a rugby course at Bisham Abbey where one of the coaches was a member of the Welsh Schools Association, and knowing that I  lived in Llandudno ,had played rugby for Lancaster Royal Grammar School, and was going to Liverpool University gave me Tom Bellis's telephone number. We practiced below Rydal School and played at Mochdre. I remember playing against South Wales teams during the Easter period,  What an eye opener and also represented North Wales against a visiting representative team put together by an ex Rydal player and former Welsh International. His name alludes me at the moment .  Later, Llandudno formed a Rugby Club, and I was asked to join them, but as Colwyn Bay was still in its infancy and important that it succeeded I did not take up the offer. Due to studies and time playing for Liverpool Univ. and only available during vacations I did not play many seasons for Colwyn Bay.  Later they moved , after my time to Colwyn Bay .

Last Chance to Take Part in This years Golf Competition

This is your last chance to get your name down for this years golf comp. I cannot accept any entries after 29 August 2009. The reason for this is I have to inform the golf pro at Rhos on Sea Golf Club the numbers that will be participating. This will give him the opportunity of filling the spot after our tee time with other visitors. I also have to inform CBRFC club steward of numbers participating for catering purposes. If you wish to take part, let me have your completed entry form and a cheque for £40.00. For further details see my Post It on 8 May 09 on this site.
