Another magnificent performance at the end of a
gruelling two week period. Well done to all members of the playing
squad your commitment throughout the season but over the last
fortnight in particular has been outstanding particularly in view of
the loss of key players through injury etc. Have a break but keep
fit for the Final you can win it this year by playing to your full
potential.

You will recall my post it on 28
January 2008 regarding an Interesting Pullover Contest to be held at
CBRFC after the 1st XV home game nearest to Christmas 08,
(see details on my post it below dated 28 January 2008). At the time of
informing you about this spectacular event I said I would remind you
ever three months. This is your first reminder. You will be surprised
how long it takes to knit an Interesting Pullover; so if you haven’t
already done so, get those needles out and start knitting!!!

After our outstanding
performance and win against Caernarvon on Tuesday night Colwyn Bay have
been confirmed as runners up in the league with 1 match to spare.
Regardless of the result against Dolgellau we cannot be overtaken. We
will of course endeavour to collect maximum points from this final game. I
would just like to say a massive thank you to all the lads, coaching
staff and backroom boys involved in the squad this year. To lose 3 out
of our first 4 games and achieve what we have is fantastic. It has taken
a lot of commitment and hard work and is yet another step on our journey
to become as successful as we can. Our building process is sound in all
areas of the club both on and off the pitch and bodes well for the
future. Special mention to Pete Rice, Rhys Williams and Mark ' The Man'
Lewin who have been magnificent again this year. We now need to clear
the last hurdles and provide our supporters with another great game on
Monday in the Cup.

An excellent result against Caernarfon only club in North
Wales to score over 20 points against them this season and that is in 2
games. Lets finish the season with runners up spot and I hope a win in
semi final of the Nth Wales Cup against Nant Conway
A big thank you to the coaching staff and all the
players for their excellent commitment throughout the season.
Lets ensure that we all turn up on Monday vs Nant as
a CLUB to support the 1st XV that is all the CLUB from the Juniors
and Senior members

I
have
found out today, from a very reliable source, that after the last match
in Pwllheli my match report was not very well received by the Pwllheli
chairman, referring to the comments about intimidation, provocation and
foul play. I only report on what I see during the game and I have never
made anything up to harm the reputation of any rugby club, obviously
individuals have differing opinions of what they see during the game,
but when a group of people witness exactly the same incident and draw up
the same conclusions there must be a valid case for reporting the truth.

I agree with Beagle. We do not
consistently have enough surplus senior players to warrant the time and
effort of setting up a 3rd team. Energies should be focused on the
transitional period between our fantastic junior section and our 1st
team. This seasons successful 1st and 2nd teams are built around a core
of ex CBRFC youth team players who are reaching maturity ( rugby
maturity ) together. |

Regarding the 2XV game against Abergele. We recorded our
third successive big win (and second clean sheet) away from home. It was
to have been a home game but our pitch was deemed unfit.
More importantly 30 players turned up demanding to
play. We managed to get them all on in the end and without
disrupting our performance.
On this basis there has been talk of running a third
senior side but I think we would be overstretching ourselves at this
juncture. What is more important for the future of the club is to
get more Youth team games and players.

Regarding the game
against Ruthin - Firstly I would like to congratulate Ruthin on their
win, I thought their defence was outstanding and Jon's try was very well
worked and finished.
In truth the defeat
was hard to swallow for myself and the team having worked so hard to
get into a challenging position. All is not lost however and
hopefully this defeat will give us the impetuous to push on and win
our remaining games - a feat that we know we are very capable of
achieving if we put our minds to it. We still have a
massive interest in the cup and although the league is a far tougher
prospect we must keep up the pressure on the leaders.
We have a massive 3
weeks ahead and everyone has a big part to play - keep up the good
work.

Interesting Pullover Contest – Christmas 2008 -
I know this is very
early notice, but it will give you plenty of time to start
knitting!! Over the past few years one of our senior members, Mike
Williams, has sported an “interesting pullover” over the Christmas
period. Graham Davies and I though it may be a bit of fun to hold an
“Interesting Pullover Contest” at Christmas 2008. The contest rules will
look something like this: The contest will take place after the home
game nearest to Christmas 2008. All competitors will pay a £5.00 contest
entrance fee. Half of the total entrance fees will be donated to the
Club’s 2008 chosen charity. The remaining half will be prize money. All
none competitors and the opposition team players will have one vote each
for the pullover they think is the most interesting. The votes will be
counted and there will be three prizes. Half of the prize money will go
to the winner. ¾ of the balance will be second prize and the remaining ¼
will be third prize. These rules may change before the event, but you
will be given plenty of notice. You will be reminded of this contest at
three month intervals between now the date of
the event. So, get knitting!!!!!

Well done to the first team for their win against Bala...Special thanks
to the first team that supported us against Shotton, with Shotton edging
the game with a last kick of the game drop goal (gutted). It was good to
see the second team assemble a large squad of talented individuals, also
with other talented individuals injured/not available it bodes well for
Colwyn Bay RFC...unfortunately we did not gel as a team, we were beaten
by a team on Saturday with more hunger/desire, confidence, better
fitness levels, knowledge of the game and handling skills - whether it's
attending training, better preparation before a match or believing in
your own abilities each one of us needs to reflect on Saturday's
performance and previous matches against Llandudno, Mold, Shotton (away)

The 4th Cadet Battalion
Royal Welch Regiment is holding a sports day at
Eirias Park on Saturday 15 Dec 07. Teams will be competing in a variety
of sports including Rugby, Hockey, Football, Netball, etc. The rugby
will comprise 3 seven a side games of mixed ages between 13 years and 16
years. These will be played 10 minutes each way. The battalion adjutant
has asked me if I could arrange for a referee for this competition.
North Wales Rugby Society referees will be tied up with cup and other
league fixtures, so maybe a referee from the club’s junior section could
help. The matches begin at 1000 and should be all over by 1200. If there
is anyone available, please contact me via the club website post it

Great
performance by the Under 16's today to beat Wrexham 31-3 in poor
conditions excellent displays by all players. The management would like to
thank Phil Roberts, Alex Kay and Lee McKenzie who played for the
opposition, they showed tremendous sportsmanship and character. It also
shows that Clwb Rygbi Bae Colwyn can be regarded as a club that endorses a
high level of fair play and sportsmanship. This was a typical gutsy

Well done 1st XV against Loughor you certainly gave a good account of
yourselves against 2nd Division opposition only one score in it.
Disappointing to lose but the standard of rugby played shows that you
have nothing to fear from any other team in Division 4 North and
comments made to me after the game by Loughor supporters show that the
standard of rugby played in North Wales is far higher than the
equivalent level in South Wales. So much for the wisdom of the WRU in
blocking the aspirations of North Wales teams to climb the league
structure. Makes you wonder what they are afraid of. Good luck for the
rest of the season keep up the good work in the league and the North

After the 2nd teams tremendous recent run of 3 league
wins in a row, I was saddened to hear some people saying that we should be aiming to finish 5th!
Thus ensuring an easier run after the mid season reshuffle! This is totally unacceptable. One
reason the 2nd team exists is to prepare
younger players for 1st team rugby. Another facility of
the 2nd team is to enable regular 1st team squad members to play rugby when not selected for the
starting 1st fifteen. Surly on both counts it would then be beneficial for our 2nd team to be
playing the highest standard opposition possible? I am right in thinking its better to give a
great performance against quality opposition and lose, than to hammer some journeymen? Also I'm sure
some of us older players want to feel we are risking possible injury for a significant reason, ie
we are trying to beat a quality opponent?
We look quite rightly at Mark Earls 1st team to set an
example for other teams at the club. On Saturday it was a privilege to witness them turn an
'almost' 8-15 defeat into a stunning 41-15 win. This "never say die" attitude and win at all costs
mentality is what every CBRFC team should
be striving towards.

Does anyone know who smashed into the front of Louis' car
at the club this morning and failed to report it? There is a lot of damage
to our car and whoever did it must also have damaged their head/rear
lights as there was glass on the floor. It is a real shame that someone
didn't even have the honesty and manners to report this. Surely someone
must have heard and possibly seen the 'accident' as it happened sometime
between 10 - 12, while he was coaching.

In support of Steve's enquiry, ITV has exclusive TV
rights and will be televising the following Welsh WC fixtures:
Sun 9 Sep 07 Wales v Canada
Sat 15 Sep 07 Wales v Australia
Thur 20 Sep 07 Wales v Japan
Sat 29 Sep 07 Wales v Fiji
As we can get ITV at CBRFC, and, in its wisdom, the WRU
is not allowing our 1st XV to play on the Saturdays WC fixtures are
being played, it would be a good idea to show these matches at the club.
The Sunday fixture should not represent a problem because the juniors
are there anyway.
It sounds like a good idea to me Steve.

Intrigued by the posting under my name on 12th July.
Intrigued because at the time, I was in the wilds of Crete where there's
barely a carrier pigeon to be found, much less functioning web access.
Still, I don't think "my" posting contained anything too controversial,
although to be honest, I'd lost interest by the word "golf". See you all

Re Dave's post
That's great news Dave, but just to let you know there
has been some sessions at the club in may and June and another session
was held last night as will be another next Wednesday at 7pm. Numbers I
must say are a little disappointing as the players from the club who
went and played against Rochdale service area at u`14s and u`15s did
really well, and also after it was put in the north Wales weekly news
about the training session but hey, gotta go with what you get. I would
urge any player who wants to do a bit of mid season training to come
along ( i know that there is already training for some teams at the
club), hopefully then a friendly game can be organised. I know i will
get a few youth players down for next week so if anybody else would like
to come along they are more than welcome.

It may be disappointing to some that there is no rugby
league at CBRFC this summer. However, if any youngsters are interested,
St Helens RLFC offer the following opportunity.
At at St Helens RLFC, the home of the World Club
Champions, boys and girls (aged 7- to 17-years-old), can enjoy:
· Coaching sessions with the players.
· Change in the first team dressing room.
· Chance to meet St Bernard and first team stars.
· Tour of the ground.
· Ticket offers.
· Presentations and awards.
Three dates are available – August 14, 21 and 28. The
cost of each session is £15.00.
This is a great opportunity for youngsters to receive
expert coaching alongside some of the best RL players in the world. As
you can imagine, places are limited and are sure to sell out fast.

Lets not get too excited about this golf thing. Apart
from 1 occasion the golf society have held their day on the second Sat
in Sept. This is booked 12 months in advance so that people can diarise
it. As far as I aware the golf lads have never asked the club to change
venues - this has been a decision taken by the club. Golfers will always
do what golfers do - all they want to do is to meet up with old friends
have a good crack on the course and have a few beers together in their
club. If there is a game at whatever level then so be it if there's no
game it's disappointing but they'll just get on with it.

Re contribution from Dave Edwards:
I find this a strange suggestion from a man with a
fixture secretary background.
The highlight of any rugby club is a 1st XV match and it
must take precedence over all else.
If the golfers would like to watch a 1st XV match after
their golf the solution is easy- change the golf day.
Incidentally aren't the seconds or youth team good enough
for their viewing.

I notice that the annual golf day has been set for 8 Sep
07. In past years it has been desirable to have a home 1st team fixture
for this event. This encourages the golfers to stay after lunch and
watch the match, and, hopefully spend more money by drinking more beer.
With this in mind, is there any possibility of rearranging the first two
games of the season, i.e. play Nant away on 1 Sep 07 and Caernarfon at
home on 8 Sep 07?
Just a thought.

Regarding the captaincy, I hope our coaches are going to
learn from seasons gone before. there needs to be some communication with
the players prior to choosing one, so as not to p**s anyone off. I dont
think there is a stand out choice, although I have heard a rather worrying
rumour about which I wont go into. sorry to hear the Beerfest wasn't as
successful as anticipated, but some of the e-mails going around are

After reading Max's report re the Caer Boarders decision,
I thought it may be worth putting pen to paper to expose the diabolical
behaviour of this so called rugby club. I will point out that these are
my personal views and not necessary those of CBRFC.
Throughout the season players in the league in which
CBRFC second has been involved have played for other clubs. I am not
going to name clubs individually, but they know who they are as do the
players involved.
Colwyn Bay beat Caer Borders twice. But they just had to
play at being barrack room lawyers on both occasions. Ask yourselves,
Caer, have you played fair all season, always using your own registered
players? Only when it suited you, did you start griping. On paper, you
have won. Maybe next season you should take up basket weaving, or if
that is to exciting for you, maybe flower arranging. Obviously rugby is
far to tougher sport for you to win fair and square, so maybe one of
these options are more in keeping with your attitude towards contact
sports. Just mind you don't prick your fingers whilst displaying your
roses. You may have to go back to the suppliers to complain that roses
have thorns!!!!

Yesterday's game against Llandudno was one of my proudest
moments as Chairman of Colwyn Bay RFC. It was much too much of an ask
for the Cup Final squad to play two games in 48 hours and the response
from the rest of the players to the Club's call to fulfil this fixture
was magnificent, as was the commitment shown on the pitch. To be able
to call on some 45 players to represent the 1st XV within two days at

I normally keep my thoughts and opinions to myself but on
this occasion I feel I must reiterate Peters comments below and extend
my thanks and respect to all the lads who played against the Llandudno
1st XV yesterday. It does as Peter said show that we are as a club
continually moving in the right direction. We rested 22 1st XV players
for the match and although soundly beaten we at least fulfilled the
fixture and completed our league program. We are no flash in the pan
club and yes we have had our fair share of tough times but continual
investment by a large number of people has and continues to drive us in
the right direction. We have one of if not the best club infrastructure
in North Wales and the 1st Team pitch is one of the best I have played
on anywhere in the world. We have a 2nd XV floodlit pitch for both
training and playing and will this summer further extend these lights to
enable us to train and play on the 3rd XV pitch as well. Our Youth and
Junior set ups are both thriving under the guidance of some very
motivated people as is our ladies Mermaid teams. We continue to attract
and keep some of the most talented players in the area and in my opinion
have one of the most professional and forward thinking coaching teams
around including our fitness coach Mark Lewin who has worked with many
top class athletes and teams including at present the Warrington Wolves
Super League Team and Rhys Williams our exceptional backs coach. Our
vision is to keep investing and improving both the facilities, coaching
and playing side of the club and in due course become one of the most
professionally thinking clubs in the area. A club that attracts players
of all abilities and all ages and provides a centre of excellence for
rugby in North Wales. I also wish to extend my thanks to all the
Sponsors of the club at all levels who invest both their time and money
into what I feel is a club that can only enhance the reputations of all
those involved.
