Saturday 12th November - Colwyn Bay 8 Mold 59
Welsh rugby legend Gerald Davies watched the proceeding today.
Colwyn Bay were unfortunate to have had to play league leaders on Saturday.
Bay's team who were missing 4 key players, Mark Earl, Sion Thomas, Ben Evans and
Tom Duffy were always going to be up against it, playing a Mold team who are
currently enjoying a very high playing standard. The two teams, who share the
same fitness coach, stated the game at a breakneck pace. Bay who always play to
win, were pleased with scoring the first try of the game, by way of a powerful
driving maul. Captain Dave Brown applying the final pressure on the ball.
This however only acted as a awake up call for the classy Mold outfit, who
immediately mounted a ceaseless attack on the Bay try line. Bay will take some
positives from the fact they hid their own in the set piece, however almost any
mistake from the Bay back line resulted in an opportunist try for the home team.
Bay's efforts were further thwarted by replacement hooker Mike 'Tookie' Hughes
having to leave the field due to a freak cash of heads with a team mate. As the
game neared its end, the home crowd were treated to some scintillating inter
passing by the Mold team, forwards and backs alike. Mold will certainly stand a
fighting chance in Div 3 in they achieve promotion as is expected. Some Bay
players did manage to have a personnaly good game, not least young prop
Mark Edwards who is improving with every game, and Mark 'Big Dog' Bratt who came
on as a substitution in the second half.
