Saturday 3rd December '05
C/Bay 18 - Bethesda 12
The whole ground fell silent at CBRFC on Saturday before the
match as a minutes silence was observed in memory of club member Paul Jones who
passed away tragically exactly one year ago today.
Bethesda travelled the short distance to Brookfield Drive today knowing that the
outcome of today's match would be key in securing any chance of surviving in Div
4. Colwyn Bay had also targeted today's game as an important opportunity to get
out of the relegation zone.
As thunder rumbled in the skies above, a thundering game was expected. However
both teams played with the poor standard that has seen them languishing at the
bottom of Div 4.
Bay's more experienced pack won solid possession throughout the first half, and
the Bay pack were rewarded with 2 well taken tries by forwards Dave Brown Capt.,
and Bryn Williams. Luckily Bay have forwards capable of scoring as their backs
failed yet again to gain points from the good possession won by the Bay
forwards. A conversion and 2 penalties by the dependable fly half
Andy Williams Owen secured Bay a half time lead of 18 to nil.
In the second half Bay should have gone all out for the win, to counteract
Pistas inevitable comeback. Frustratingly Bay allowed Bethesda back into the
game, converting two well taken tries.
Two Bay players performed fantastically whilst under attack in the second half,
Dave 'Lemon' Hocknell with some crunching try saving tackles, and Man of the
Match Sean McDonaugh with some tremendous runs out of his own half.
