Saturday 8th April '06 Colwyn Bay 22 - Dolgellau 0
Colwyn Bay led an impressive win over Dolgellau on
Saturday by winning 22 to nil. The first fifteen played an excellent
game of rugby which has moved them to a mid table position.
There has been a steady improvement on performances over the course of the
season by many of the players and Jamie Thatcher one of the younger players
scored a spectacular try.
On Saturday the ground was slippery underfoot
and the ball was hard to handle, a running game of rugby was hard to play in
these poor conditions, but the Bay played a fierce attacking game and the
visitors defended well.
Despite being out for some of the season Hooker
Sion Thomas played well, creating play which led to a try teaming up with wing
Gafyn Owen. Constantly in the thick of things were centres Jodi Prior
and Dave Hocknell pushing forward and defending well. A second try came
from skipper Dave Brown who touched down off a driving maul set up after a
line out, the score was now 10 - nil. Next came Thatcher's try, he
picked up from within his own half and ran like a knife through butter past
the Dolgellau defences to score under the posts, this was converted by Sean
McDonagh.
In the second half came the try from Gareth
Williams, however despite having the most possession and being on top the
majority of the time, the Bay failed to push their lead any further, a
few wrong options and spilled ball failed to see any more points on the board.
All in all though an emphatic win over Dolgellau.
