Blackwell controlled things well from the second row and Bryn
Williams was impressive at no. 8.

Gwynedd League at home to Shotton. A very close game ended in victory for the
Bay by 22 -19. After Shotton scored an early try veteran Llew Williams replied
with a close range try that was converted by centre Phil Dixon. Sergio
Cabezuelo, looking very sharp at centre, scored two tries. One of these was
converted by Phil Dixon who also scored a penalty.
Shotton came back in the last quarter but good tackling from the Bay held them out. Colwyn Bay 23 - Ruthin 7
Colwyn Bay 2nd XV have started their season by winning their first two games
in the North East Counties League. On Saturday they defeated Ruthin 23 - 7 at
home in a hard fought game. Although the Bay were always on top they never
completely overcame their opponents who posed a threat until the final ten minutes
of the game.
Sergio Cabezuelo opened the scoring in the first half with a well taken try
jinking past three or four defenders. This was converted by captain Andy
Owen-Williams who had a good game and led the side well from scrum-half. He
added two penalties to the Colwyn Bay score before Ruthin replied with a well
deserved converted try.
Colwyn Bay were unable to extend their lead until the last quarter of the game
when Andy Williams-Owen added three points with a drop goal and Ritchie Evans
scored a final converted try.
