Under 10's Match Reports 2007/8 Sunday 9th March 2008 Colwyn Bay 14 : Bala 31 Bala started quickly and within a few minutes a fast try was scored and converted. Colwyn Bay countered well with Ollie Roberts driving over for the first try which was converted by Ross Daniels. The Bay started putting some great play together with Aled Bysouth linking up well with Ben Jones on the wing. However Balas strong organised pack meant that many good forward runs were held back. The improving Bradfield brothers provided some great links between the forwards and wingers creating some width to the Bays game. Although there was some excellent tackling from Bradley Reid and Harry Osbourne Bays tackling was week in general this allowing the faster Bala players to run through a second converted try. This was shortly followed by another unconverted one before half time. Colwyn Bay went out positively in the second half with Roberts producing some inspiring runs. Bysouth linked up well with Reid who twisted and dodged his was over the line for Bays second try. This was converted by Roberts. Colwyn Bays forwards worked very well managing to restrain Balas large forwards but as soon as the ball became loose their speed overwhelmed the Bay allowing two further tries. Bay played well against a team who comfortably beat them 9 tries to nil at their last meeting. Man of the match was Bradley Reid who produced some great tackles, runs and joined in the work of the forwards to great effect. 2nd March 2008 Colwyn Bay 39: Llangefni 19 Colwyn Bay started slowly but within 5 minutes Clayton White drove over the first try. This was followed by a superb run from Non Harris resulting in a try by Bradley Reid. Llangefni countered with some very strong play from their large forwards who just seemed to walk through the Bay defence, which gave them a well executed try and conversion. The Bay picked up their game and a further try were scored by Harry Osbourne with Ollie Roberts converting. The Bay continued to play well as a team in the second half. The forwards improved and were driving over the ball well although a few crucial tackles were missed allowing Llangefni to score a second converted try. Ollie Roberts began to produce some superb straight runs through the Llangefni defence resulting in a try from Non Harris with good support by Gwilym McCann on the wing. Clayton White and Archie Feathersonhaugh were producing some good supporting play. Tom Bradfield then ran the full length of the field dodging and twisting past the Llangefni players for his first try for the club. Llangefni managed to get through the Bays sloppy tackles again and bundled over their third try. Ollie Roberts’ direct running was rewarded with a powerfully driven try which was converted by Ross Daniels. The final minutes saw Harry Osbourne push through the Llangefni defence for his try. Man of the match was Clayton White who managed to be in the right place at the right time for much of the match. The score reflected an excellent team performance from the Bay U10s and reflected the hard work put in by the players and coaches over the past weeks. Sunday 17th February 2008 Colwyn Bay 19: Caernarfon 14 Following 3 months of struggling to produce a win Colwyn Bay U10s finally gained a well deserved victory against a well organised Caernarfon team. The Bay started well with Archie Feathersonhaugh powering over the try line straight from the off. Unfortunately this was not converted. Caernarfon equalised and converted to ease into a two point lead before the Bay pulled ahead with a great try from Aled Bysouth who dodged and weaved his way over the line. This was converted by Bradley Reid. Colwyn Bay managed to keep up the pressure in the second half when Archie scored a second magnificent try which was converted by Ross Daniels before Caernarfon scored a second converted try. Good solid work from Tom and Will Bradfield help to ensure that the two wingers Gwilym McCann and Ben Jones saw plenty of the ball which brought good width to the game. It was a great performance from the Bay U10s and showed how well they are progressing as a team. 10th February 2008 Colwyn Bay 10: Pwllheli 45 Colwyn Bay started well keeping good position. The forwards were exceptionally good and drove well providing excellent support. Pwllheli however managed to capitalise on the Bays poor tackling and put away 5 converted tries before halftime. In the second half Bay began to sort their act out and held Pwllhelli for 2 unconverted tries each. Bay try scorers were Harry Osbourn and Ollie Roberts. Great forward work from Archie Feathersonhaugh and Clayton White and some excellent runs down the wing by Ben Jones Colwyn Bay 10: Pwllheli 14 The second game was far closer with the Bay coming out strongly. Again excellent work from the forwards. A slight change to normal positions proved useful with Ross Daniels playing Scrum Half and providing the first Bay try and Bradley Reid in at second row driving over for the second. Max bacon also having a good game as hooker. Special mention to Daisy Edwards whose return to the squad proved vital. Her ability to make tackles on the wing helping to keep the attacking Pwllheli forwards from running in a number of tries. The Bay team are developing well and put a good performance in only let down by a few missed tackles against a strong, skilled Pwllheli side. 13th January 2008 Colwyn Bay vs Mold vs Rhyl Colwyn Bay travelled to Mold to take part in a three-way match with Rhyl. The weather was wet and windy which meant that the Bay had a poor turn out. The 10 strong team arrived in Mold but only 9 were able to start. The first game was against Mold who had already played well and beaten Rhyl 5:0. The first half showed Bay at their very best. Some excellent running and support play lead to two well run tries by Bradley Reid. There was some notable play from Non Harris who played her first match as scrum half and managing to get some great tackles in. The forwards were missing some of there usual players however Clayton White and Sean Hughes still showed good determination and defence of the ball. At half time the score was Mold 3 CB2. The second half however was a different matter and the Bay started to struggle as they played up the slope. Mold had a large squad and were able to use fresh players which made a difference in the speed of their game. Ben Jones and Gwilym McCann showed good promise on the wings weaving around and switching the ball into space. The final score of 9:2 didn’t really reflect the game as a whole in which Colwyn Bay played some of their best rugby of the season. The second match followed straight on and without any substitutes the Bay were always going to struggle. The game was played 8 a side as the Bay were now 2 players down as both Tom and Will Bradfield were unable to continue to goods work they had put in in the first match. They managed to hold Rhyl to 2:0 in the first half but by the time they went out for the second they had nothing left to give. Strong tackling by Ben Jones and Aled Bysouth and excellent aggressive running from Harry Osborne meant that only another three tries went over for a final score of Rhyl 5 CB 0. 21st October 2007 Colwyn Bay 17: Bro Ffestiniog 45 Colwyn Bay hosted the match with Bro Ffestiniog this week. Bro started the game very strongly and were soon well in the lead with the Bay only scoring a single try from Ollie Roberts. The Bay didn’t seem to know how to cope with the initial speed and passing skill of the visitors. In the second half however they pull themselves round with good tackling from Harry Osbourne, and an excellent driving run from Clayton White set up the second try from Aled Bysouth quickly followed by a third from Archie Feathers which was created with the help of a great run from Non Harris and support from Bradley Reid Colwyn Bay 21: Bro Ffestiniog 12 The second game was a different situation entirely. The Bay seemed to have been spurred on by a relatively poor performance in the first game. They all got stuck in from the start with notable tackling from Nicole Hatherway. The first try came early on with a superb weaving run from Aled Bysouth who then converted. The second try came from a surging run by Archie Feathers releasing the ball in good time for Aled who side stepped a couple of players and drove over the line. The second half was more of the same with Harry Osbourne continuing to dominate in the tackles with Clayton White driving well in the rucks and mauls. Ollie Roberts pulled off a couple of great tackles. The final try from the Bay came following a great steal by Archie Feathers who powered over the line taking the smaller Bro players with him. Player of the Day was Aled Bysouth 14th October 2007 Colwyn Bay 30: Caernarfon 10 Colwyn Bay produced a stunning performance in the first of two matches at Caernarfon. Although they conceded an early try in the first few seconds on the match they pulled together well with tries coming from Nicole Hathaway and Non Harris. The second half showed the Bay at their best with superb team work resulting in a three tries from Ollie Roberts, and a second from Nicole Hathaway who was named player of the match while only conceding one try. Also worth a mention was Clayton White who had a couple of great driving runs. Colwyn Bay 0: Caernarfon 15 The second game was a different situation entirely. Caernarfon played a much more experienced, physical side which the Bay had difficulty matching. Harry Osbourne showed great commitment in the tackles, which was good to see in his first match for the team with Ollie Roberts and Aled Bysouth driving and supporting well but in the end the Caernarfon side were just to strong for the Bay side. 30th September 2007 Colwyn Bay 15: Mold 42 As has been the case this season Colwyn Bay started slowly. Mold capitalised on the poor tackling and by half time were leading 32:0. The second half however saw a different style of play from the Bay. Oliver Roberts driving over for the first try followed by a great run by Bradley Reid to score the second. Archie Feathers produced a great drive over the line but had the ball held up by strong Mold defence. The final Bay try was scored by Aled Bysouth with superb support from Tomos Williams in his first game of the season. Colwyn Bay 10: Mold 20 The second game was far closer with the Bay coming out strongly but unable to repel the Mold attack. Half time score was Mold 10 CB 0. The second half of the second game proved to be the best session of play from the Bay. Bradley Reid scoring another superbly run in try, followed by a close call from Oliver Roberts who only just failed to get the ball over the line. The second Bay try came from Gwilym McCann who managed to squeeze down the right wing and over the line. Special mention to Clayton White who upped his game considerably this week driving well over the mauls and to James Hannam whose fearless tackling and determination was a sight to see on his first run out for the team. 23rd September 2007 Colwyn Bay 5: Newtown 22 Following a long journey to Newtown the Colwyn Bay u10 team struggled to get into the game. They did show good defence keeping the home side from the try line on a number of occasions. They moved the ball round well and showed some good play when moving forward but couldn’t cope with the far more physical Newtown side. Player of the Match goes to Nicole Hatherway for consistent tackling in her first game for the club. 16th September 2007 Colwyn Bay, Llandudno & Nant Conwy Colwyn Bay hosted a three way mini tournament with Llandudno and Nant Conwy. Colwyn Bay and Nant Conwy were both short of players and borrowed from the side they were not playing. Match one – Colwyn Bay 0: Nant Conwy 31. Although the Bay played well driving the ball and supporting each other well they were ultimately beaten by Nant’s superior speed around the field and skill on the ball. Nant tries scored by Llyr Jones, Llywelyn Best and Josh Rose. Match two – Llandudno 35 : Nant Conwy 0. Again a very closely contested match with Llandudno showing good team play, spreading the ball wide to score their tries. Match three – Colwyn Bay 12 : Llandudno 14. Arguably the best game of the morning. The Bay starting very well and leading by 12 to 0 at half time. Llandudno pulled back well in the second half with two converted tries. The Bay try scorer was Bradley Reid who put in a great performance in all matches to be the Bay player of the match. |
