Under 10's Match Reports 2006/7

‘Welly’ Tournament – Saturday 28th April

Colwyn Bay U10’s put in a fantastic effort in this hard fought competition finishing joint first on points but just losing out to a fine Nant Conwy ‘A’ team by one try on tries scored. Bay started by playing Nant ‘A’ and earnt a great draw in a tense game with Connor Harding scoring for Bay. Bay then played Nant ‘B’ who showed their quality in depth with a fine performance, which Bay won 10-5, scoring two great tries by Kurt Taylor-Williams and a length of the field score from Adam Stroud.

Playing the hosts Llandudno next, Bay had to dig deep to break the defence down but did so, winning with a Glen Davies try. Denbigh were up next and they tried their best to  stop the Bay backs but were unable to do so with Bay winning 25-5. Going into their last game, against Caernarfon, Bay needed a win to win the competition and for most of the game they looked like doing so, being camped in the Caernarfon half, and only strong defensive tackling prevented Bay leading comfortably. An early try  allowed Bay to take the lead. However an equalising try in the second half led to a 5-5 draw, and a tense last couple of minutes. This draw once again opened up the competition. With Nant A beating Caernarfon 10-0 in their final game it was just enough to win the event by a single try scored. Great performances were put in by the whole Bay squad with notable performances by Will Murphy, Nicholas Ingham, David Edwards and Gareth Mansfield. Try scorers for Bay were Adam Stroud (3), Connor Harding (2), Glen Davies (2), Jacob Trotter, Scott Kane and Kurt Taylor-Williams. A great finish to the season by Bay U10’s who have had a fantastic and successful year. Remy Shiel was awarded player of the tournament for playing successfully at both second row and scrum half !

Sunday 22nd April 2007

Colwyn Bay U10's hosted and won this tournament, sponsored by First Hydro. Four local teams, Colwyn Bay, Nant Conwy, Flint and Caernarfon and a Dublin based team, Old Wesleylians, took part in what was a fine example of junior rugby with all teams giving their best and playing the game in a fine spirit.

Bay got off to a convincing start with a 45-5 win over Flint, with great performances put in by Adam Smith, Will Murphy, Lewis Shaw and Mathew Patricola in the forwards and the backs running in some great tries with speed and strength. With Nant Conwy and Caernarfon drawing their match 5-5 this put Bay in the driving seat although they had 3 much tougher encounters to come. In their second game against their Irish visitors, the touring team showed their strength in all aspects of the game but were not quite able to cope with Bay's continual pressure, with the home side winning 15-0 with tries from Scott Kane, Jordan Edwards and fly half Adam Stroud
Bay's third game against Nant Conwy was a hugely tough and entertaining encounter with both sides very evenly matched and it took a good try from Bay's fly half to break the deadlock midway through the second half. David Edwards, Christian Copeland and Remy Shiel starred in the forwards, with Luke Rawicki and Oscar Astbury tackling well to prevent Nant breaking away with their strong running back line. With Caernarfon's results against Old Wesleylians and Flint going their way it led to a final decider with Bay which Caernarfon had to win. The match was incredibly tight with neither side dominating in the first half although Caernarfon went ahead with a breakaway try. The second half was very tense with Bay putting the strong Caernarfon defence under immense pressure for virtually the whole half. At the final lineout, Bay broke through the Caernarfon defence and Christian Copeland drove over for the equalising try to earn a draw and win the tournament. A fantastic effort by all the players in the team, with Bays try scorers being Adam Stroud (6), Connor Harding (2), Jacob Trotter, Glen Davies, Scott Kane, Jordan Edwards, Christian Copeland and Matty Humphreys who was named Bay's player of the tournament.

Ruthin 33    Colwyn Bay 24

Colwyn Bay and Ruthin were involved in a fantastic match, which swung from one side to the other. Bay got off to a flying start with Adam Stroud scoring a long run in. Ruthin replied just before half time to level the scores.
Both sets of forwards tried to gain dominance with Jordan Edwards, Nicholas Ingham and Adam Smith playing well for the Bay. Connor Harding and Adam Stroud shone in the backs. Ruthin caught Bay cold at the start of the second half with four quick tries, but Bay showed their fighting spirit, by dominating the rest of the game, and deservingly scoring 3 tries, from man of the match Remy Shiel, Matty Humphreys and Adam Stroud who also played well with Adam converting 2 of the tries.
A close game, with great effort put in by both sides.

Under 10’s Tournament in Bangor

Colwyn Bay U10’s came a very creditable 4th  and won the Fair Play Trophy in this hard fought competition featuring the best sides in North Wales at this age group which was won eventually by a fine Nant Conwy side.

Bay started brilliantly with two good victories against Llanidloes, winning 22-7 and then a fantastic 35-7 win over Bala. These matches showed Bay at their best with forwards such as Jordan Edwards, Remy Shiel, Christian Copeland and Nicholas Ingham linking superbly with the backs, Adam Stroud, Connor Harding, Luke Rawicki and Gareth Mansfield to provide fast flowing rugby. Bay were narrowly defeated in their next two games against Mold and Caernarfon but still qualified to the semi finals. Great teamwork featuring Jacob Trotter, Scott Kane, Lewis Shaw, Glen Davies, Matty Humphreys, Oscar Astbury and David Edwards played a huge part in all the games. Bay were unfortunate to lose by a single try in the semi final and then narrowly lost a highly competitive 3rd/4th play off against Mold where despite both sides being totally exhausted they gave their all up to the final whistle.

Bays try scorers were Adam Stroud (4), Luke Rawicki, Matty Humphreys, Christian Copeland, Scott Kane, Jacob Trotter, Jordan Edwards and David Edwards.

Sunday 18th March 2007

Colwyn Bay 20 Stockport 5

Colwyn Bay welcomed Stockport to Brookfield Drive on Sunday for what turned out to be two really competitive games. The   Bay got off to a superb start with Glen Davies going over for a try immediately. Two further tries from Adam Smith and Jack Morris meant a 15-0 half time lead although Bay didn’t have it all their own way, the forwards having to be at their best just to compete with Stockport who were quicker to the loose ball and better at the maul. The second half saw a determined Stockport fight back with an early try from Joseph Thomas, and only good Bay tackling prevented the score being closer. Man of the match, Glen Davies, scored again for Bay at the end to seal victory. Jordan Edwards and Jacob Trotter stood out for Bay .

Colwyn Bay 10 Stockport 10

Both teams players provided a great game for the large crowd in the second match. The wind played a decisive factor with Stockport being wind assisted in the first half going into a 10-0 half time lead through flying winger Connor Osbiston. Both teams were well matched, although as in the first game, Stockport were quicker in the forwards picking up anything loose although Bays back were the more decisive once the ball was thrown wide. In the second half, Bay dominated territory and were rewarded with a fine try by Remy Shiel. Great tackling by both sides kept the competition keen before a break away and off load from Nicholas Ingham led to Adam Stroud charging over for Bay. Bay threatened to win it at the end but Stockport’s defence held firm. Jacob Trotter was awarded man of the match.

Sunday 11th March 2007

Colwyn Bay  50   Llandudno  5

A dominant and decisive display in windy conditions meant Colwyn Bay cruised to a big victory over local rivals Llandudno. A fine passing display from the backs led to Connor Harding starting the scoring for Bay, before great tries from Nicholas Ingham, Adam Stroud and another from Connor Harding led to a 20-0 lead at half time, helped by Bay having to tackle brilliantly to prevent Llandudno scoring.  Playing into a strong head wind in the second half, Bay conceded a good early try by Lloyd Evans, before dominating the rest of the half with strong forward play who regularly secured loose ball, and decisive running, from the backs capitalising on that possession, as tries from Oscar Astbury, Matties Humphries (3), Adam Stroud and Glen Davis left the result beyond doubt. Connor Harding was awarded man of the match for his all round play. Solid tackling was the order of the day in this fine match.

Sunday 4th March 2007

Colwyn Bay Under 10s  30   Newtown Under 10s 15

In spite of difficult playing conditions under foot Colwyn Bay with the wind at their backs decided to play an expansive game with scrum half Scott Kane moving the ball wide where ever possible. This paid off when centre Oscar Astbury opened the scoring shortly to be followed by flying winger Luke Rawicki scoring two tries and second row Remy Sheil and hooker Glen Davies and Connah Harding adding another. At half time being 30 points up Bay with a large squad of players made many changes so that the developing players could show skills. Bay survived a great second half fight back by Newtown with notable performances by new boys Jacob Trotter, Matthew Patricola, Adam Smith and Jordan Edwards putting in some big tackles as Newtown large pack pressurised the Bay line. Another fine performance by this very successful team and a joint man of the match award goes to Oscar Astbury and Glen Davies.

Sunday 17th February 2007

Colwyn Bay U10's    40    Pwllheli U10's   10

Bay knew this was going to be a tough encounter after the close match played earlier in the season and it didn't disappoint the good crowd. Pwllheli, relying on their big forwards, dominated the early exchanges pushing Bay backwards and were close to scoring several times before, against the run of play, Luke Rawiichi scored a great breakaway try from his own half to open Bays account. Jack Dickinson equalised for Pwllheli before the super quick Bay backs got going with Oscar Astbury going over twice and Adam Stroud once with a long run from his own half to make the score 20-5 at half time. Nicholas Ingham stood out amongst the forwards in the first half with his tackling.
Bay used the second half to swap over all their forwards and they played very well coping with the size of the Pwllheli pack. Morfudd Ifans scored for the away team before Bay took control and let their fitness tell. Man of the match Connor Harding who tackled exceptionally well, scored for Bay followed by two more superb weaving tries by Oscar Astbury and a final length of the pitch try with the last play by Adam Stroud. Special praise was given to Glen Davies, Adam Smith, Lewis Shaw, Jacob Trotter and Jordan Edwards for their second half forward performance.

Sunday 4th February 2007

Colwyn Bay U10’s  55 Afon Dee   10

This game provided a good opportunity for Bay to field a totally different team from normal and they took good advantage with a comprehensive victory over a team who failed to give up throughout the whole game and impressed the crowd with their tackling and persistence.

Bay dominated the first half and Glen Davies and Jacob Trotter went over for three tries each, all from long runs, showing good strength in resisting tackles. The forwards battled hard with Lewis Shaw, Adam Smith and Kurt Taylor-Williams all putting in strong performances. Afon Dee replied just on half time with a try from their man of the match Thomas Morgan to leave the score 30-5 at the break. Straight from the restart Bay were caught napping by a quick try from Joseph Ball but then dominated the rest of the encounter with three more tries for Glen Davies, two for Rhys Thomas and another for Bay man of the match, Jacob Trotter who did some great covering tackles. Special mentions were also given for Callum Teesdale and, on his first game for the club, Matthew Patricola.

Sunday 28th January 2007

Caernarfon  U10   10     Colwyn Bay U10   30

Both teams travelled to Bala for a round robin tournament and Bay came out winners in their first game against a tough and resilient Caernarfon side. The first half saw Bay take a resounding 25-0 lead starting with a drive over try for David Edwards. Adam Stroud scored the next, before the best try of the match by Mattie Humphreys, which was scored after great link up and support play between backs and forwards. Christian Copeland powered over shortly afterwards for Bays 4th before Adam Stroud rounded off a good half for Bay with his second. The second half allowed Bay to make a number of team changes. Adam Stroud scored his third for Bay with a long run from his own half. Caernarfon then played some good rugby and fought back well during this half with Bay continually on the back foot, and they were rewarded with two good tries by Llyr Thomas and Ceredig Puw.  Mattie Humphreys and Adam Stroud were named joint men of the match.

Bala U10      10       Colwyn Bay  U10    20

The second game for Bay proved an even tougher affair with Bala providing stiff opposition, especially in the forwards. Bay got off to another flying start with a try by scrum half Scott Kane, breaking free of a tackle to go over. Bala immediately replied with Rhun Daddudd scoring from deep, before Scott Kane and Connor Harding scored close to half time to open up a 15-5 lead for Bay. The score would have been even closer had it not been for great tackling back by Luke Rawichi for Bay.  The second half was a war of attrition up front with Bala pushing Bay backwards on many occasions but Bay tackling well to prevent any quick breakaways. Nicholas Ingham led the forwards with a great performance, with Remy Shiel also putting in a lot of effort to keep Bala at bay. Adam Stroud scored another fine try for Bay after a great break out of defence and pass out of the tackle by Luke Rawichi. Miallt Roberts again kept Bala in the game with a try for the home team but Bala were unable to score again, mainly due to fantastic tackling at the end by Connor Harding and Glen Davies. Nicholas Ingham and Scott Kane were named joint men of the match.

The other match ended Bala 25  Caernarfon 15.

Sunday 21st January 2007

Llangefni  5     Colwyn Bay  30

In the first of two games against a big, strong Llangefni side, Bay managed to dominate the game from the start in their first away game of 2007. Scott Kane scored a fine blindside try from the scrum to open the scoring, catching the home team cold, before Oscar Astbury scored the first of two first half tries for him with a jinking run through the defence. Sam Evans, for Llangefni managed to pull one back for the home team before man of the match Adam Stroud forced his way through 4 tackles to score for the Bay to give them a 20- 5 half time lead. The second half was a tough competition with both sides forwards trying to get the upper hand, with Bays just edging it and gaining lots of possession from good rucking. Bay scored twice without reply in this period, both by forwards, Mattie Humphreys scoring the first and then a fine individual try by Remy Shiel at the end rounding off a great performance by all the team.

Llangefni  20    Colwyn Bay  20

The second game again gave the Bay chance to give others from their large squad the chance to play along with some of the players from the first game. Llangefni came out of the blocks much quicker and showed their forward strength by continually driving back the Bay pack and gaining good possession. Sam Evans went over twice for Llangefni to open up a swift lead before Adam Stroud scored one back for the bay to leave it 10-5 to the home side at half time. Bay again struggled to dominate up front at the beginning of the second half and two further tries for Llangefni from Sam Evans again and Harri Thomas allowed them to open up an apparently unassailable 20-5 lead. However grit and determination from Bay and some fine play by everyone saw them claw there way back into it with man of the match Glen Davies scoring for Bay, followed by a good run and try from scrum half Gareth Mansfield before Adam Stroud scored a great interception try from half way to secure a well fought draw

Sunday 14th January 2007

Colwyn Bay 50  Denbigh 0

After a long break over Christmas, Colwyn Bay U10's got back to winning ways with a comprehensive victory over Denbigh on Sunday. The scoring came thick and fast during the first half, in heavy underfoot conditions, which the lightning fast Bay backs in particular, did not allow to slow them down. Luke Rawichi opened the scoring almost from the first whistle followed swiftly by another by Adam Stroud with a long individual run. Christian Copeland, leading the forwards, then powered over from 10 yards out before four further long range tries from Oscar Astbury, Mattie Humphreys, Connor Harding and another from Luke Rawichi meant Colwyn Bay had a comfortable 35-0 half time lead.
Wholesale changes during the second half allowed Bays big squad chance to play and the forwards in particular competed well as Denbigh managed to find their composure and come back into the game, winning good ball and coming close to scoring on a number of occasions. Good Bay tackling prevented that happening and winning important rucks and mauls near their try line allowed Bay to break out and use their speed, with Adam Stroud going over for two more long range tries. Rhys Thomas managed to score a fine try near the end. Great determination was shown by the whole team at the end of the game as Bay produced tackle after tackle to prevent Denbigh scoring. All players were awarded Men Of The Match as they all played out of their skins - well done boys.

Sunday 26th November 2006

Colwyn Bay Under 10’s were away at Llandudno for this eagerly awaited local derby.  Travelling with a squad of 22 players, two games were organised and the Bay coaches had the difficult task of picking a first and second team to face the 12 man squad of Llandudno, depleted in number by players having travelled to see the Wales v NZ international in Cardiff.

Llandudno 5 - Colwyn Bay 1st 35

The first game saw both sides play flowing rugby with attacking runs matched by strong defences. Bay finally broke the deadlock in this 10-man-a-side dual with a darting run from the base of the scrum by scrum-half Scott Kane. This lifted the Bay team who then went on to score 3 more tries in the first half through Man-of-the-Match, Christian Copeland (2) and Matty Humphries with a reply from Llandudno through Luc Davies. The second half remained tight with the forwards from both sides contesting every ruck and maul with determination. The Llandudno backs had some good breaks but the Bay team tackled well and remained organised under Captain, Connor Harding and fly half Adam Stroud. Bay gained the upper hand in the forwards, winning good possession through Remy Sheil scoring 3 more tries through prop David Edwards (2) and a well worked penalty from Oscar Astbury.

Llandudno 25 - Colwyn  Bay 2nd 5

In the second game, Bay fielded its less experienced players and those returning from injury against the first choice Llandudno side. Bay performed well in most areas of play, but some loose tackling allowed Llandudno to score 2 tries in the first half and 3 in the second. Lewis Shaw was awarded Man-of -the-Match for his first half performance, before coming off with a back injury. Gareth Mansfield captained the side in his first game back after injury and developing players Jordan Edwards, Rhys Thomas and Callum Teesdale put in good performances alongside strong tackling from Sara Davies on the wing which kept the score at a respectable level. At the end of the game Bay were awarded a penalty try after putting sustained pressure on the Llandudno line and repeated penalty infringements.

A great display of rugby by Colwyn Bay and Llandudno Under 10’s saw the large crowd thoroughly entertained with skill levels, commitment and enthusiasm making the return fixture in the New Year a welcome event.

Sunday 19th November 2006

Colwyn Bay  15 - Nant Conwy  0

In the first of two games on Sunday, Colwyn Bay faced a strong and impressive Nant Conwy side but put in a superb performance to win the game. The match was very tight throughout with both teams striving to get the upper hand, but Bays superior defence managed to thwart the regular attacks from the Nant forwards and back line. Luke Rawiichi scored a great solo try showing great strength to force his way over for Bay to lead 5-0 at half time. In the second half, tries from Scott Kane and Matty Humphries proved decisive as Bay continued to force back the Nant attacks. Great resolve was shown by all the players on the pitch and Connor Harding was given man of the match for his defensive tackles and telling attacking runs. A great performance from both sides with Bay deserving the win.

Colwyn Bay 40 - Nant Conwy  20

The second game gave both squads chance to use other players as well as some of the more established ones. Nant got off to a flying start with a try from Arthur Lennon, with Adam Stroud replying for Bay. Emyr Court gave Nant the lead again but straight from the kick off Adam Stroud ran the length of the pitch for his and Bays second. Glen Davies then scored his first try for Bay as they went into half time 15-10 up. Glen Davis, who was awarded man of the match, scored his second, followed by one from Oscar Astbury as Bay extended their lead, only to be immediately pegged back by a try for Sam Jones. Adam Stroud then scored two further tries for Bay to take them clear, before the pick of Nant's tries from Gethin Vaughan, powering over in the corner reduced the deficit. A final try for Bay from Matty Humphries secured the victory in what was another tough game. Jack Morris and Scott Kane received special praise for their tackling

Sunday 12th November 2006

Pwllheli   25   -  Colwyn Bay   30

A fine performance from Colwyn Bay U10's saw them win a hard fought game on Sunday away to a large, strong Pwllheli team. The Pwllheli forwards took the initiative from the start initially pushing Bay backwards and scoring an early try, but a darting run from the base of the scrum by scrum half Scott Kane levelled the score, followed up shortly afterwards by a fine individual try by Adam Stroud, running 3/4 the length of the pitch. The rest of the half was closely fought with the Bay forwards gaining the upper hand despite the size disadvantage they had and despite two tries from Pwllheli the half ended all square at 15-15 with Matty Humphries powering over from close range just before the break.
Bay came out flying in the second half with a drive over try from David Edwards and two by man of the match Oscar Astbury, one being a great solo effort, to lead 30-15. Two late tries from Pwllheli meant a close finish but Bay were strong enough to hold on and Adam Stroud went very close at the end being stopped on the line having run the whole length of the pitch. A great effort by the whole team with Remy Shiel, Connor Harding, Glen Davis, Adam Stroud, Scott Kane and Matty Humphries all receiving special praise.

Sunday 5th November 2006

Chester  30 - Colwyn Bay  15

Colwyn Bay U10's suffered their first defeat this season in the first of two matches against a very strong Chester side who were Cheshire champions last season. In what was their toughest test this season, Bay played poorly in the first half as they struggled to contain the strong Chester pack, who were superior in the maul and at the ruck and Bay trailed 20-5 at half time with Remy Shiel driving over for Bays try. The second half was more even, although Bay were let down at times by indifferent tackling which undermined their determination not to let Chester score. Both sides scored two further tries with Bays efforts coming from man of the match Connor Harding and Oscar Astbury.

Chester  0 - Colwyn Bay   50

The first match proved the incentive for a rejuvenated Bay to take apart Chester's 2nd team, who still provided stiff opposition, particularly up front. Tries from Scott Kane and Adam Stroud meant a 10-0 half time lead with the floodgates opening up in the second half as Bay got back to their running best with tries from Remy Shiel, Adam Stroud, Matty Humphries, Sara Davies, man of the match Oscar Astbury, Christian Copeland, Luke Rawichi and Jack Morris. Glen Davis also played well in his first game for the team.

Sunday 22nd October 2006

Mold 5 - Colwyn Bay 30
Afon Dee  0 - Colwyn Bay 30

Colwyn Bay U10's were away at Afon Dee where they played 2 games.
The first against Mold in a hard fought contest where Bay started slowly allowing Mold to open the scoring in the first minute. Bay rallied to score 6 unanswered tries with determined forward play, solid tackling and superior team work proving too strong for the physical Mold side. Man of the Match was awarded to Oscar Astbury with noticeable performances from Captain Lewis Shaw and forward Nicholas Ingham.

The second game was against Afon Dee, Bay scored 6 tries to Nil in a scrappy game where neither side dominated possession or territory. Both teams played hard in a game where individual running seemed to dictate the play. Rhys Thomas was awarded Man of the Match with noticeable performances from Scott Kane and Christian Copeland.

Sunday 15th October 2006

Flint U10's  0  - Colwyn Bay U10's  75

Colwyn Bay U10's were in dominant form in their latest away game at Flint scoring 15 tries without reply against a Flint side still finding their feet this season. The scoring started early with a length of the pitch try from Adam Stroud. Christian Copeland then charged over from close range for the second, which epitomised the forward domination Bay had all game, before further tries from Scott Kane, Luke Rawiichi, two from Matty Humphries and another two from Adam Stroud led to a 40 - 0 half time score.
The second half, despite the final try count, was a much more even affair, with Flint battling hard and going close themsleves early on. However, fine tries from Connor Harding, Luke Rawiichi, Adam Stroud, Matty Humphries (2) and Ryan Davies (2), sealed the victory, with only fine tackling from Flint preventing the final score being even more emphatic. Matty Humphries was named man of the match.

Sunday 8th October 2006

Colwyn Bay 35  - Llangefni  10

Colwyn Bay's outstanding U10 side won again with a fine performance against a Llangefni team, whose size failed to intimidate the Bay players. With the away team taking an early lead with a try from Thomas Parry, Bay then took control, dominating forward possession and utilising the fast running backs. Bay then took the lead with two tries from Adam Stroud and led 3-1 at half time after man of the match Oscar Astbury went over just before the break. The second half produced much the same with Bay's forwards repeatedly driving Llangefni backwards. Oscar Astbury scored two more fine individual tries with Jack Morris and Remy Shiel going over at the end. Harry Thomas scored Llangefni's other try.
Gareth Mansfield, Adam Stroud, Jordan Edwards and Remy Shiel all received special praise for fine performances although the result reflected a great team performance.

Sunday 1st October 2006

Denbigh 5 - Colwyn Bay 30 & Denbigh 5 - Colwyn Bay 20

Colwyn Bay U10's travelled to Denbigh on Sunday and emerged victorious in both their matches against a strong home side. The first game ended in victory by 6 tries to 1 in Bays favour with a strong first half performance leading to two drive over tries from Christian Copeland and another from Oscar Astbury with Catrin Owen replying for Denbigh. In the second half, Bay dominated and managed to score three more tries with Oscar Astbury scoring 2 and Matty Humprhies the other. Connor Harding was awarded man of the match for a great display of tackling.
The second game proved just as decisive for Colwyn Bay, winning 4-1 with great individual efforts from Connor Harding, Adam Stroud and Ryan Davies opening up a first half lead and honours even in the second half with Adam Stroud again going over for Bay and Josh Morris scoring for the home side.
Sara Davies, Christian Copeland and David Edwards all received praise from the coaches for their efforts both in attack and with their tackling.

Sunday 24th September 2006

Newtown  0    Colwyn Bay   49

Colwyn Bay U10's made the long trip to Newtown worth while with a comprehensive victory over unknown opposition on Sunday. Dominating from the start Colwyn Bay quickly notched up 5 tries in the first half with two tries from Matty Humphries and a try each from Gareth Mansfield, Oscar Astbury and Adam Stroud. All 5 tries were converted by fly half Adam Stroud. The forwards played their part with Christian Copeland and Remy Shiel, in particular, putting in powerful performances that helped secure possession for the fast running back line to make big yardage.
The second half saw two more tries by Colwyn Bay with Ryan Davies and Oscar Astbury going over for scores with Adam Stroud again converting one of the tries and Oscar Astbury the other.
Despite a strong last few minutes from Newtown they were unable to score with hard tackling coming in from all the Bay players.
Matty Humphries was made man of the match for his impressive all round performance with Adam Stroud and Christian Copeland receiving special praise also for their efforts.

17th Sept '06

Colwyn Bay RFC U10's opened their season with a home fixture against Nant Conwy. Two games were played to give the large number of players at each club a game. In the first game, Nant dominated from the whistle with excellent field positioning and strong attack play combined with a well organised defence, scoring 2 tries through Tom Jones. Bay rallied in the second half and after sustained pressure  scored 2 tries through Gareth Mansfield and Matthew Humphreys. The game ended a draw with Oscar Astbury awarded Man of the Match. The second game was much more open and saw Bay score 4 tries (Adam Stroud, Jack Morris, Connor Harding and Scott Kane) to Nant's 1 (Arthur Lennon). Both games provided the large crowd plenty to shout and cheer about, with WRFU referee Martin Kane receiving advice from the knowledgeable spectators. The season look
promising for both teams who will meet again in the new year.
