Under 11/12's Match Reports 2006/7
15th April '07
Real Grit and Determination pull it back for Colwyn Bay U11s
A Colwyn Bay U11 side depleted
by Easter holiday absence took 8 players to take on Caernarfon and looked
like going down to a humiliating defeat when Caernarfon ran in 3 quick tries
in the first 8 minutes .They held on manfully till half time when it looked
like it was all over with Caernarfon ahead by over 30 points. Then
something happened ! the Referee asked if the Bay wanted to cut short the
second half to minimise humiliation and to a man the lads responded NO! and
went on to a spectacular comeback with excellent forward rucking and mauling
from Luke Brocklehurst, Morgan Rogers, and Captain Bill Harpum.
This renewed effort was well
supported by Jordan Russell and Joseph Pardoe many excellent breaks from Ben
Cowsill , Jacob Griffith and Sean Sheridan who also converted nearly every
Bay try. The match ended with a spectacular 52 - 57 score line and all the
Bay players received 'man of the match ' commendations from coach Andy Bale
11th February '07 The First team pitch at Colwyn Bay saw some of the best U12/U11 rugby this year as Rhyl came to visit the Bay under sunny skies.
With strong forward work from Jules Sheil , Niall Doherty ,
Bill Harpum , Patric Wregglesworth and the rest of the pack , the Bay lads (
and lasses) held a large and strong Rhyl side until towards the end of the
first half when Rhyl' s relentless pressure and good skills saw them score a
try which they duly converted . Building on their strong and well rehearsed
forwards play Rhyl put over and converted another try just before half time.
Undaunted the Bay kept at it and after several courageous attacks by Henry
Salisbury and Amy Bird , were soon rewarded with a well earned try for Amy .
Coach Andy Bale said " This is the best we have played so far this season , I
am really pleased with the improving skills and teamwork , Man (Maid?) of
the Match was a difficult decision but was well deserved by Amy Bird " .
29th October '06 A Mixed U12/U11 Bangor side came to Brookfield Drive and went
head to head with an evenly matched Colwyn Bay side for the last match with the
club of Coach Ray Howells and his lads Callum and Connor and provided some
superb entertainment for those on the sidelines. Play flowed quickly from end to
end for the best part of the first half with both sides looking likely to score
on several occasions before a breakaway gave Bangor their first and only try .
Gusty winds prevented the conversion . Good rolling play continued from both
sides and eventually lead to Ashley Jones breaking down the left wing to even
the score with the wind again denying a conversion .Some excellent defensive
tackling by both sides prevented any score in the second half to end a thrilling
match a worthy 5-5 draw. Colwyn Bay Man of the Match was awarded to Max Edwards
for his unstinting work and courageous tackling. 29th October '06 Rhyl v Colwyn Bay U12 Spectators at Rhyl for the U12 Match on Sunday morning were treated to some of the best junior Rugby this season with closely matched sides both displaying skilled and energetic attack and defence. Rhyl forced ahead with the first try and conversion but were then pinned down by a determined Bay side inside their own 22 for most of the rest of the first half .Colwyn bay came out for the second half on a wave of optimism which resulted in a try for Sean Sheridan which he then converted to level the score. Strong attack and defence from both sides resulted in the 7 all score line standing until the dying seconds of the game when Rhyl slipped in a breakaway try to end the match 14 – 7 victors .Colwyn Bay man of the Match was prop Ian Hillier . Both sides were applauded off the field by all who enjoyed some spectacular rugby in the autumn sunshine.
15th October '06 A Rapidly improving Colwyn Bay U12s had the best result of the season on Sunday when they were narrowly beaten by a strong Flint side ; indeed they dominated the first half and lead 7 – 0 at half time with a solid try from Ian Hillier converted by Sean Sheridan. A few missed tackles playing up hill in the second half allowed Flint to run in 3 tries despite strong defence from the forwards and several superb tackles from Rebecca Broadway. “The 21 – 7 score line doesn’t do justice to the effort the team put in “ said Coach Nigel Roberts.
