Mold 28 Colwyn Bay 7
Mold were quick of the mark and with some strong rucks and mauls soon found they had two very early tries, Colwyn Bay stepped things up a bit and fought back a try of their own, which was neatly converted by Jordan
Sheridan, so that at the break the score was 14 - 7 to Mold. In the second half the bay kept up the pressure, however Molds rucks and mauls were very strong and the Bay were unlucky to concede a try with only 5
minutes left to play, heads dropped and Mold capitalised with a last minute try to seal the win.

Burton 14 Colwyn Bay 7
Touring team Burton got a taste of Welsh rugby with a very strong game from Colwyn Bay. Burton took the lead but only moments later Harry Jones ran 50 metres in to surely level the game, unfortunately his speed took
him out past the back of the in-goal area and his try was disallowed. An embarrassed Harry jogged back dismayed. Burton took the initiative and ran in their second try but the Bay woke up and with some nifty passing skills between the backs ran through to take the score to its final whistle at 14-7.

Flint 0 Colwyn Bay 33
Bays performances during the day had been getting better and better with each match and in the final game of this mini tournament they really stepped up the tempo. Within moments of the kick off the Bay had their
first try of the day with Harry Jones running almost the full length of the pitch to cross the line, this time remembering to place the ball down in the in-goal area. Jordan took the conversion and the Bays assault of Flint began. By half time Bay were 14 points to nil. At half time the coach's told the Bay to keep their focus or risk letting Flint come back into the game. The team were not about to lose this game though and no sooner had the game kicked of and Harry ran in a second try thanks to some fantastic forward play from Rob Jones. The Bay kept their focus for the entire game not once allowing Flint to get even close to scoring. Final score Flint 0 Colwyn Bay 33.

Colwyn Bay 76 - Bala 7

On Sunday morning Colwyn Bay under 12's took on Bala in what threatened to be a close fought match. A freshly rested Colwyn Bay took to the field for the first time since their Rugby Tour to Leeds Tykes which was sponsored by the Paul Jones memorial fund and they were fired up and ready for action.
Within minutes of the kick off the Bay shot into the lead and stunned Bala with their heavy forward play. At half time it was Colwyn Bay 24 and Bala 7, the coach's reminded the players that the last few games they had played had ended in draws because they had eased up in the second half. The coach's demanded at least 50 points from the team and this was enough to keep the motivation during the second half. Within 10 minutes of the second half Bay had passed the 50 point mark but the coach's, players and screaming parents all wanted more, and more was to come.
Try after Try piled up the score and a somewhat dejected Bala were only to happy to see the final whistle end their torment with the Bay winning by a massive 76 points to 7. A delighted coach Ray Howells said after the game "it is fantastic to see all the hard work that the players have put into their training over the last few months backed by the terrific training received at the Leeds Tykes training academy all coming together, the players all worked hard and deserved this win".

Colwyn Bay U12 took on their old rivals Nant Conwy in an exciting and close match. Within seconds of the start Tom Hindley ran half the length of the pitch to touch down behind Nant’s try line but this was to be no walkover. Nant  fought back and worked hard against solid defence to even the score by half time, only to have Tom repeat his try in the first 2 minutes of the second half and Nant again worked long and hard  to bring the match to a 14:14 draw. Colwyn Bay Man of the Match was well deserved by Sean Waddington for his excellent defensive work in the scrum. The Bay look forward to Rhyl away next Sunday.

Wrexham 14 - Colwyn Bay 14

Colwyn Bay Under 12's travelled to Wrexham for their first 15 a-side away fixture of the season, with a depleted squad the Bay took to the field with just enough players to make a full team. The game got of to a good balanced start with both sides playing well. Wrexham made the first breakthrough with a first half try which was duly converted. Colwyn Bay kept their heads up and once they settled into the game soon find their pack just getting the edge in the rucks and mauls. Confidence was growing and thanks to some strong forward work from Sean Waddington and Rob Jones coupled with skill-full play among the backs the balls was quickly dispatched to Tom Hindley who sprinted down the side line to get the Bay's first try of the day. Captain Jordan Sheridan confidently converted to level the match.

The second half started strongly for the Bay who found that their confidence and hard work meant that most of the second half was spent in the Wrexham half of the pitch. Wrexham made a break but Liam Bond pounced onto the Wrexham outside centre dragging him to the ground 15 metres short of the Bay's try line, The Bays forwards were straight in driving over and releasing the ball to scrum half Arthur Astbury who skilfully threw a long ball to winger Tom Hindley, with lightning speed Tom shot down the wing running 80 metres to score the Bay's second try of the day. Again Captain Jordan Sheridan stepped up to convert the try putting the Bay in the lead 14 points to 7.

With only minutes to spare Wrexham were awarded a scrum on the Bay's 22 only 5 metres from the touchline. Wrexham won the scrum and quickly got the ball out all the way down the line to run in a try on the opposite side of the field, despite protests from the Bay that they had held the player up preventing the try the referee awarded the score and once converted Wrexham had levelled the match. Final whistle Wrexham 14 Colwyn Bay 14

Colwyn Bay 12 Flint 14

A home match on a cold and frosty morning against Flint saw the first outing of the season where the Bay's under 12's fielded a full 15 a side squad, and for the first time, on a full size pitch. This was new to most of the team but it didn't show and the Bay very quickly found themselves dominating in the rucks and mauls thanks to a strong forward pack.Against the run of play Flint broke through to score the first try of the game which was duly converted. The Flint lead didn't last long and the Bay's Fly Half Jordan Sheridan, assisted by strong forward play and some nifty passing skills from Scrum Half Arthur Astbury, ran in the Bays first try which Jordan Sheridan then converted with ease.

The game was a nicely fought dual with both sides having strong moments, however the Bay always seemed in control and as the forwards piled over the rucks and the backs flicked the ball around Harry Jones made a bounding drive through to run in the second try for the Bay making it 12 - 7 to the Bay. The conversion was just missed but the Bay now felt and looked the stronger team.As the game progressed Flint seemed to sense that the Bay were tiring and broke through to score an equalising try. This time the conversion by Flint sailed straight through and Flint took the lead.

The Bay never gave up and the last ten minutes of the game was spent hovering around the Flint 22 line. Harry Jones again fought through to run in a third try for the Bay only to have it disallowed for a high handoff to the face. Despite the strong constant pressure from the Bay, Flint did well and held off the attack and the game finished Colwyn Bay 12 Flint 14.

Colwyn Bay’s under 12’s and under 10’s had to merge to form an under 11’s team to take on Caernarfon. Despite only having a couple of training sessions together the mixed squad played well against a tough opposition. In her first opening game captain Rebecca Broadway led the team out and having won the toss she elected to have Caernarfon kick off. Caernarfon took the lead early with two quick tries which put the inexperienced team on the back foot right from the beginning of the game. Two further tries prior to half time and heads were hanging low on a Colwyn Bay team that were only too happy to see half time.

A half time motivation session from the Coach’s brought the lads out fighting in the second half. The whole team stepped up several gears and this coupled with some outstanding individual contributions from Henry Salisbury, Sean Sheridan, Max Edwards and Connor Howells forced Caernarfon onto the back foot for the whole of the second half preventing any further scores from Caernarfon and allowing man of the match Ian Hillier to feed through to the other man of the match Jacob Griffiths to run in a dazzling try for the Bay. An unlucky bounce of the crossbar prevented the conversion from Max Edwards but otherwise the second half had been won by the Bay. Final Score - 5 - 28

Sunday 9th October '05

With 6 key players out through injury, an under par U12's team had a hard fight to hold a strong Llandudno side to a 2 - 7 defeat in a friendly 12 a side training match with another great performance by Sofia Hathaway.

Sunday 2nd October '05

In their first game of the season Colwyn Bay under 12's travelled to Denbigh for what proved to be a very competitive game. Colwyn Bay took the early lead with the fancy footwork of Tom Hindley whirling round a dazzled Denbigh defence to score the Bays first try, this was quickly followed by a strong push through by number 8 Rob Jones to put the bay 2-0 up. Denbigh responded almost immediately with their first try through some strong forward play.
Fly half Jordan Sheridan ran in a third try for the Bay just before half time to take the Bay to 3-1 at half time.
In the second half Denbigh stepped up their game a gear and came out flying with a very early try taking the game to 3-2. Again the fancy footwork of Tom came into place and he ran in the Bay's fourth try of the day. Denbigh fired back with some strong forward work and soon had a third try taking the game to 4-3 to the Bay. This stirred Denbigh and they fought their way back to level the game a four try's a piece with only minutes left in the game. The Bay were not to be outdone though and sensing that the game was there to
be won some great team effort from forwards 'man of the match' Sophia Hathaway and Sean Waddington sore the bay releasing Rob Jones to power his way through to score the winning try for Colwyn Bay.

Sunday 18th September '05

The under 12’s season got of to a cracking start on Sunday 18th September with thirteen teams from all across North Wales attending the annual start of season U12’s 8-a-side tournament at Caernarfon RUFC.

Colwyn Bay got of to a fantastic start in their first game with Max Edwards winding and weaving his way through Wrexham’s defence for an early try. Only moments later and hooker Geraint Owen pushed his way through to give the Bay their second try. In the second half Wrexham responded with a try but this was quickly counteracted with the Bays third try scored by the lightning speed of  Jordan Sheridan.

The Bays second game was a close fought dual against Nant Conwy. Sean Waddington took the lead for the bay only to have the score levelled moments later by an equaliser from Nant Conwy. As the game progressed Jordan Sheridan ran in a great try to put the Bay back in the lead. Nant Conwy countered a few minutes later with a well run in try to again equal the score at two tries each. A second try in the dying moments of the game then looked like victory may go to Colwyn Bay but the try was disallowed due to an illegal hand of and the match finished 2-2.

Colwyn Bay were fired up and eagerly went into their third game against Blaenau Ffestiniog who were completely overwhelmed. Two tries from Colwyn Bay forward Rob Jones, and one each from Jordan Sheridan, Sean Waddington and Will Broadway were too much for Blaenau Ffestiniog and although they did managed to get two tries during the game it was a fantastic 5-2 victory for Colwyn Bay .

Feeling the effects of four games straight after each other a tired Colwyn Bay then met home team Caernarfon in the match that would decide the group winners.

Caernarfon opened the scoring with a very well run in try but this was quickly countered by Rob Jones crashing his way through to score a try for the Bay. As the game progressed Caernarfon scored their second try and despite a valiant fight from Colwyn Bay a third try for Caernarfon was enough to clinch the match and win the group.

Spirits in the Colwyn Bay team were quickly lifted though as they found out that enough work had been done for them to get through. Whilst other teams prepared to take part in the runners up “plate” competition, Colwyn Bay had to focus themselves for the main competition Semi-Finals.

A much older and stronger team from Mold were, mainly from their size and strengths in the Mauls, were able to drive through Colwyn Bay in the end to win 5-0 but the Bay lads made sure they worked for it. Despite Bays defeat by Mold they were able to take comfort from the fact that they lost to the tournaments eventual winners.

Both Coach Ray Howells and Manager John Broadway were delighted and proud of the achievements of the whole team who thoroughly deserved to get as far as they did considering the huge amount of effort, strength and skill that all the squad put into their game.

Colwyn U12’s Squad

Arthur Astbury, Callum Howells, Eiuan Roberts, Geraint Owen, Jordon Sheridan, Max Edwards, Owen Field, Rob Jones, Sean Waddington, Tomos Edwards, Will Broadway.
