Under 11/12's News Sunday 2nd April '06 Mold 28 Colwyn Bay 7 Sunday 19th March '06
Colwyn Bay 76 - Bala 7
On Sunday morning Colwyn Bay under 12's took on Bala in what
threatened to be a close fought match. A freshly rested Colwyn Bay took
to the field for the first time since their Rugby Tour to Leeds Tykes which
was sponsored by the Paul Jones memorial fund and they were fired up and
ready for action.
Within minutes of the kick off the Bay shot into the lead and
stunned Bala with their heavy forward play. At half time it was Colwyn Bay 24
and Bala 7, the coach's reminded the players that the last few games they had
played had ended in draws because they had eased up in the second half. The
coach's demanded at least 50 points from the team and this was
enough to keep the motivation during the second half. Within 10 minutes of the
second half Bay had passed the 50 point mark but the coach's, players and
screaming parents all wanted more, and more was to come.
Try after Try piled up the score and a somewhat dejected Bala
were only to happy to see the final whistle end their torment with the Bay
winning by a massive 76 points to 7. A delighted coach Ray Howells said after
the game "it is fantastic to see all the hard work that the players have
put into their training over the last few months backed by the terrific
training received at the Leeds Tykes training academy all coming
together, the players all worked hard and deserved this win".
Sunday 15th January '06 Colwyn Bay U12 took on their old rivals Nant Conwy in an exciting and close match. Within seconds of the start Tom Hindley ran half the length of the pitch to touch down behind Nant’s try line but this was to be no walkover. Nant fought back and worked hard against solid defence to even the score by half time, only to have Tom repeat his try in the first 2 minutes of the second half and Nant again worked long and hard to bring the match to a 14:14 draw. Colwyn Bay Man of the Match was well deserved by Sean Waddington for his excellent defensive work in the scrum. The Bay look forward to Rhyl away next Sunday. Under 12's travelled to Wrexham for their first 15 a-side away fixture of the
season, with a depleted squad the Bay took to the field with just enough players
to make a full team. The game got of to a good balanced start with both sides
playing well. Wrexham made the first breakthrough with a first half try which
was duly converted. The second half started strongly
for the Bay who found that their confidence and hard work meant that most of the
second half was spent in the Wrexham half of the pitch. Wrexham made a break but
Liam Bond pounced onto the Wrexham outside centre dragging him to the ground 15
metres short of the Bay's try line, The Bays forwards were straight in driving
over and releasing the ball to scrum half Arthur Astbury who skilfully threw a
long ball to winger Tom Hindley, with lightning speed Tom shot down the wing
running 80 metres to score the Bay's second try of the day. Again Captain Jordan
Sheridan stepped up to convert the try putting the Bay in the lead 14 points to
7. With only
minutes to spare Wrexham were awarded a scrum on the Bay's 22 only 5 metres from
the touchline. Wrexham won the scrum and quickly got the ball out all the way
down the line to run in a try on the opposite side of the field, despite
protests from the Bay that they had held the player up preventing the try the
referee awarded the score and once converted Wrexham had levelled the match.
Final whistle Wrexham 14 Colwyn Bay 14 Sunday 20th November '05 A home
match on a cold and frosty morning against Flint saw the first outing of the
season where the Bay's under 12's fielded a full 15 a side squad, and for the
first time, on a full size pitch. This was new to most of the team but it didn't
show and the Bay very quickly found themselves
dominating in the rucks and mauls thanks to a strong
forward pack.Against the run of play The game
was a nicely fought dual with both sides having strong moments, however the Bay
always seemed in control and as the forwards piled over the rucks
and the backs flicked the ball around Harry Jones made a bounding drive through
to run in the second try for the Bay making it 12 - 7 to the Bay. The conversion
was just missed but the Bay now felt and looked the stronger team.As the game
progressed The Bay

half time motivation session from the Coach’s brought the lads out fighting in
the second half. The whole team stepped up several gears and this coupled with
some outstanding individual contributions from Henry Salisbury, Sean Sheridan,
Max Edwards and Connor Howells forced Caernarfon
onto the back foot for the whole of the second half
preventing any further scores from Caernarfon and
allowing man of the match Ian Hillier to
feed through to the other man of the match Jacob Griffiths to run in a dazzling
try for the Bay. An unlucky bounce of the crossbar prevented the conversion from
Max Edwards but otherwise the second half had been won by the Bay. Sunday 9th October '05 With 6 key players out through injury, an under par U12's team had a hard fight to hold a strong Llandudno side to a 2 - 7 defeat in a friendly 12 a side training match with another great performance by Sofia Hathaway. Sunday 2nd October '05 In their first game of the season Colwyn Bay
under 12's travelled to Denbigh for what proved to be a very competitive game.
Colwyn Bay took the early lead with the fancy footwork of Tom Hindley whirling
round a dazzled Denbigh defence to score the Bays first try, this was quickly
followed by a strong push through by number 8 Rob Jones to put the bay 2-0 up.
Denbigh responded almost immediately with their first try through some strong
forward play. Sunday 18th September '05 The
under 12’s season got of to a cracking start on Sunday 18th
September with thirteen teams from all across North Wales attending the annual
start of season U12’s 8-a-side tournament at Caernarfon RUFC. The
Bays second game was a close fought dual against Nant Conwy. Sean Waddington
took the lead for the bay only to have the score levelled moments later by an
equaliser from Nant Conwy. As the game progressed Jordan Sheridan ran in a great
try to put the Bay back in the lead. Nant Conwy countered a few minutes later
with a well run in try to again equal the score at two tries each. A second try
in the dying moments of the game then looked like victory may go to Colwyn Bay
but the try was disallowed due to an illegal hand of and the match finished 2-2. Feeling
the effects of four games straight after each other a tired Caernarfon
opened the scoring with a very well run in try but this was quickly countered by
Rob Jones crashing his way through to score a try for the Bay. As the game
progressed Caernarfon scored their second try and despite a valiant fight from Spirits
in the A
much older and stronger team from Mold were, mainly from their size and
strengths in the Mauls, were able to drive through Colwyn Bay in the end to win
5-0 but the Bay lads made sure they worked for it. Despite Bays defeat by Mold
they were able to take comfort from the fact that they lost to the tournaments
eventual winners. Both
Coach Ray Howells and Manager John Broadway were delighted and proud of the
achievements of the whole team who thoroughly deserved to get as far as they did
considering the huge amount of effort, strength and skill that all the squad put
into their game. Colwyn
