Under 13/14's Reports Sunday 21st May '06
On Sunday 21st May Colwyn Bay under 14s were involved in a tournament in Rhyl
organised by the R.A.F. In appalling weather conditions the Bay were drawn
against Rhyl in their opening game and despite some brave defensive work by
the Bay they were no match to a very strong and physical Rhyl side and with
Llangefni suffering the same fate against Rhyl. So when Colwyn Bay met
Llangefni in their next match it had the makings of a very juicy encounter
with both teams desperate to prove a point and get points on the board and we
weren't disappointed with the Bay getting in some good strong tackles straight
away showing that they were going to play this game on their terms with some
excellent forward play and good running and ball handling play from the backs
brought them the result they deserved wining 19-5. Their last game of the day
was against Mold another strong side and by this time having lost one or two
key players due to injuries, tiredness and fatigue had set in an it proved to
much for the Bay. over all this was a successful day and the lads conducted
them selves well and competed hard and were a credit to Colwyn Bay Rugby club
once again.
Sunday 23rd April '06
Eryri
Cup woe as Bay exit semi final
Colwyn Bay
3 Pwllheli 27
Colwyn bay
started this game well enough and held their own for the first 10 minutes
until a scrum was collapsed and the bay lost their prop forward Glyn Griffith
through injury. This had a detrimental effect on their game and they
found themselves being 15-0 down at the interval. at the start of the second
half Colwyn Bay were on the back foot once again with no real structure to
their game and further tries and one convertion came from Pwllheli. In the
latter stages of the game the Bay did get on top with some good pressure from
the forwards and only some excellent defensive work from Pwllheli on their try
line when they held up the ball and denied the Bay of some well deserved
points. Spencer Lumby successfully kicked a penalty 3 minutes before time to
give Colwyn Bay a consolation 3 points.
Sunday 9th April '06 - Rhyl Away - Won 34 - 0 Colwyn Bay Under 13 Juniors fielded a mixed team with some under 12s in support, away to Rhyl this Sunday & came away with a solid 34-0 victory, a fantastic result for a match starved side, who have not played together since February & have only had 3 other games as under 13s all season. Matt Jones opened the score in the 5th minute, & scored the 2nd try 5 minutes later, solid team work & a try by Will Evans (captain) established a comfortable position at half time. Despite a good defensive effort by Rhyl, Will Evans scored another 2 tries & converted 2, Matt Jones sealed the game with his third try of the match & as a result of his superb efforts was voted Man of the Match. Glyn Griffith at No. 8 was given coach's award for his all round team play. All U12s got match time with confident performances from Rob Jones, "Big" Harry Jones & substitute support from Jordan Sheridan, Arthur Astbury, Will Broadway & Tom Hindley. A big thank you to Ray Caldwell for coaching the team today in Tony Lumby's absence. Sunday 2nd April '06 - Ruthin Home - Won 12 - 0 Colwyn Bay pulled off an excellent win in this game against Ruthin who are a very good outfit and, good early pressure from the Bay forwards crossing the gain line and recycling the ball well and going through the hands to the wing Andy Wilson with his great pace no one could stop him going over for a well deserved try under the posts. Fly half Spencer Lumby added a further two points with the conversion. The Bay continued to dominate in attack and with the weather being wet and quite blustery at times they showed some good ball handling and scrum half Gareth Williams was sharp as ever at the set piece. Just before half time the Bay had to defend a line out on there own 5m line .Jordan Evans for the Bay leapt up and took it with ease before Lumby cleared their lines to go in at half time seven points to the good . Colwyn Bay carried on in the same mode in the second half winning several turnover balls and going over the gain line over and over again .and had Ruthin pinned on their own try line for what seemed like an eternity and they defended superbly and this time Colwyn Bay came away with no points but five minutes from the end Colwyn Bay’s no 8 and man of the match Jason Hughes who had been busy all game through his carrying and supporting play broke through a tackle in his own half and carried to the opposing 22 where he went to ground and popped up to his supporting runner John Asbury who put some width on it and eventually Will Evans dives in the corner to seal the game, Spencer was unsuccessful with the touch line kick on this occasion when the ball went slightly wide of the left upright. Sunday 19th March '06 - Bala Home - Lost 10 - 19 Colwyn Bay were at home to Bala on Sunday and in the opening minutes of the game the Bay were pinned in their own 22 but despite some good defensive work they buckled under the pressure and Bala went over for a try but missed the conversion. The Bay then settled down a bit with the forwards gaining hard yards through some powerful play by Gregg Gostage and Jason Hughes and also the man of the match Tom Geeson who scored the two tries for Colwyn Bay. This was a good performance by the Bay lads with some good rucks and mauls set up to provide good ball for the backs, winger Matt Jones made some good darting runs, but on the day Bala were the better team and clinched the game late on with a couple of good tries. the try saving tackle of the game was made by Colwyn Bay full back Alex. Final score Colwyn Bay 10 Bala 19 Sunday 12th March '06 - Bangor Away - Won 29 - 24
Colwyn Bay travelled to Bangor
for this encounter, Bangor could not field a full team so with the help of
some Colwyn Bay lads they managed to get a thirteen a side game. this was a
game that never had any real structure or shape to it, maybe this was down to
a lot of players having to play out of their positions. never the less there
were some very good individual skills from both teams.
Tom Geeson and Andy Wilson got a
couple of tries each and Gregg Gostage also went over for a score. Spencer
Lumby kicked two out of two conversions attempts to bring the final score

Bay seemed to lose their shape a bit the and Caernarfon started to play
some good rugby and came right back into the game with tries from Connor
Simpson and Carwyn Roberts who also kicked two conversions but the Bay lads
battled on and defended well and it took a break away try from Will Evans to
divide the teams and Colwyn Bay to take the spoils, final score, Colwyn Bay 17

performance by the forwards and they had Nant pinned in their own 22
straightaway. The ball was passed out to Andy Wilson who went over for the first
score and Will Evans kicked the conversion. The forwards continued with their
dominance in the first half and showed some excellent offloading in the tackles

rugby, Colwyn Bay put in an excellent performance. With some powerful forward
play against some big opposition, Flanker Jake Taylor was outstanding in the
ruck area and won Man of the Match for his efforts. Centre Will Evans was also
in fantastic form and scored the first of his four tries after five minutes,
with Spencer Lumby adding the conversion. Some good handling skill and a huge
overlap saw Caernarfon score in the corner but miss the kick to level the
score, from then on Colwyn Bay dominated and further scores came from Will
Evans(3),Dan Parry(1), and Captain Gareth Williams(2). Will Evans took over
the kicking duties from injured Spencer and he added four conversions to bring

to great rivals Llandudno on Sunday 9th October with the Bay starting
off strong and taking the game to their opponents with some good quality
rucking and mauling and man of the match, John Astbury making some surging
runs but a well drilled Llandudno side soaked up the pressure and ended the
first half 10 - 0 to the good and despite some good defensive work in the
second half the Bay had no real answer to Llandudno's strength in attack and
eventually lost 32 points to nil. This was a young Colwyn Bay team and a lot
of positives can be taken out of this game. Well done lads!!
