CBRFC had an enjoyable day at this years RAF Valley 10's.
Unfortunately both their Captain and Coach were on holiday, but Steve Davidson
stepped in and managed to organise the lads into a very strong squad for the
event.
During the group stage of the tournament CBRFC beat Llandudno, Caernarfon,
Llangefni and also a Chester based team . The win against Llangefni was
particularly sweet as they are currently playing in the higher league, Division
3. Most of Bay's scoring came from the blisteringly fast backs combination of
Ash James, Will Blackwell, Gareth Wynn, Tom Duffy and Steve Davidson. Ash James
is currently the Welsh under 18's Fly half, and due to studying commitments in
the area may be joining CBRFC for the coming season. He certainly enjoyed
himself on his first appearance for the Club! However there were also fantastic
performances from the likes of props Chris Browne and Mark Edwards, who both
worked hard to adapt to the 10 aside game. After the group stage CBRFC were
second placed overall, with Liverpool based team West Park heading the table.
Unfortunately Bay were drawn against West Park in their first knockout game, and
narrowly lost to them. West Park went on to win the competition.
Coach Mark Earl said via satellite phone from his villa in Florida; "Its good to
see our tough pre season training is paying off. We have 3 hard friendlies
arranged before the start of the season and we are focused on being more than
ready for our first league game"
