FINE DISPLAY BY BAY BACKS

The Bay welcomed Wrexham to their Brookfield Drive ground for the first fixture between the Clubs for many years.

Early pressure on the Bay line resulted in a missed penalty by Wrexham after 10 minutes.  A long relieving kick by Bay full back Sean Mcdonagh took the Bay inside the Wrexham 22 for the first time and a loose ball from a ruck was dribbled over the line by Bay centre John Davies for a deserved try converted by co-centre Adam Hughes.  Soon after Bay number eight Chris Hughes stole a line-out near the Wrexham line and the Wrexham backs were caught offside.  The resulting penalty was converted by Adam Hughes to put the Bay 10-0 in front.

The Bay backs had the better of the early encounters and scored another try when scrum half Barry Cravetto picked up the ball from a scrappy Wrexham scrum and outside half Matt Anwyl made a classic break to put Adam Hughes over.  He converted his own try to put the Bay 17-0 in front.  The big Wrexham pack started to win more quality possession and a great run down the touchline by right winger Lee was thwarted by a try saving tackle from Bay flanker Will Blackwell.  At the end of the first half Bay prop Chris Browne was yellow carded for interfering with play. 

The Wrexham pack started the second half strongly and sustained pressure on the Bay line resulted in second row Mike Jones forcing his way over for a well deserved try, converted by outside half Mike Powell to take the score to 17-7.  Wrexham took full advantage of their one man advantage up-front but their three quarters were kept out by stout defence from the Bay backs.  Honours were fairly even in the second half until a chip from Adam Hughes was followed up by Will Blackwell for a Bay try close to the posts.  An Adam Hughes conversion took the final score to 24-7.
