COBRA 22 –0 Colwyn Bay Having lost narrowly to COBRA earlier in the season the Bay squad travelled away with high hopes of reversing the result away. However the injuries and other commitments meant the squad travelled with only 15 players and were again forced to make late positional changes. The Bay won the toss and elected to play into a strong wind, and as a result spent much of the early part of the matches defending deep in their own half. Everything went well for the first part of the half but eventually this continuous pressure told and COBRA scored an unconverted try. After this score the match lost much of its structure and became very ill disciplined with numerous penalties being awarded against both sides. During this period the usually good Bay defence was beaten twice more for two unconverted tries, giving a half time lead to COBRA of 15 –0. With the strong wind behind them the Bay were still in the game and a win was still a possibility. However, COBRA’s well-organised side defended well and kept position for long periods driving up field. Similarly numerous Bay chances came to nothing. Then late on COBRA won a scrum against the head and quickly moved the ball wide on the blind side to score a converted try. The match ended with the Bay in the opposition’s half on one of their few attacking chances of the match. The score of 22-0 was a fair result with a much stronger and better-organised COBRA side dominating much of the play. Hopefully the Bay squad will learn a lot from the technique and structure shown by the opposition. |
