The Bay youngsters travelled to Harlech with a number of key players missing. This meant a number of positional changes had to be made and with only three backs travelling, four forwards had to slot into positions in the backs. This lack of experience was evident from the kick off and Harlech were soon on the attack pressuring the Bay line. Eventually this pressure paid off and the home side kicked an early penalty. This was quickly followed by a converted try as the Bay players tried to come to terms with the strange line up they found themselves in. As the half wore on the players started to come to term with the unusual line up and they were eventually rewarded with a penalty, which was converted by Steve Thatcher to bring the score back to 10-3 to the home side. This gave the Bay great encouragement and for the rest of the half they pressured the Harlech line but were unable to cross for any more points. As the second half started it was clear that the pressure was beginning to tell on the beleaguered Bay squad and Harlech again got the upper hand. However, despite nearly all the pressure and being awarded a number of kickable penalties they were only able to convert one for the only score of the second half, which ended 13- 3 to the home side. Given the squad travelled with only fifteen players and a number of those had to play out of position this was an excellent result. This was especially so given that a number of the squad played on throughout the second half despite picking up injuries. |
